Began using this storage facility this past summer after moving in with my partner. On February 25 around 8:30pm I discovered that my unit had been broken into & a great deal of my personal belongings had been stolen or destroyed. Immediately filed a police report & attempted to contact management via the telephone number provided on their website. No response, so I left a message, detailing my name, number & unit # & what had occurred as a number of other units besides mine had also been noticeably vandalized. Called again on February 27, was told that they had not heard the previous message, but that she would make a report & gave me details on how to contact their insurance company to file a report. I had a large unit that was packed with furniture, antiques, electronics & collectibles, & have been making a full inventory of the lost & damaged goods & removing my items from the unit as I can. I called the facility again on March 7 to inquire about their policy regarding my unit's rent as the unit remains unsecure & voids my contract with them. ****** took my call & conveyed that his manager had told him that I would still be obligated to pay the rent for my items "stored" there & that I could contact his manager the next day. On March 8 I came to the facility in person & spoke with ****, who told me she would contact HER MANAGER and get back to me about a resolution. I have been there personally March 1, March 8, March 14, & attempted a final visit today to finish removing my items & move out. Today, March 16, I was barred entry to the facility & **** informed me that my items were "overlocked," & I could not have access to them until I paid the rent for March. I reminded her that I'd been waiting for a resolution from her manager as per our last encounter & we were somehow able to get them on the phone within minutes to be told that they had to now contact another manager for a resolution. I have included photos, please note the dangling bar over the door frame.Customer Answer

I was never provided with a copy of the lease, nor can I gain access to it via the company's website. I assume there is an electronic copy floating around somewhere in their system, but so far I've been unable to find a way to access it. I have only the email confirming that I had reserved a unit.
I have attached some additional photos of the state of the unit and the doors of the other units in my row that were also broken into. The facility is insisting that my unit is secure when it is more than obvious that thieves can easily pry off any and all styles of locking mechanisms that are installed on the units. Please note that the swinging bar across the top door frame has been an issue since before I moved in and has never been resolved. Nor have the lights ever worked properly in the unit, making move in (and out) not only difficult but dangerous, if not more so now that my unit is also filled with broken glass/pottery thanks to the thieves. I have additional video footage of these things, but I must work on compressing them in order to email to you.Business Response

A little over 6 weeks ago I visited my unit at Simply Self Storage on Fisher Rd. and saw that someone else had put a lock on my unit next to my lock, locking me out of having access to my belongings. I notified the manager that there was someone else's lock on my unit and she came out to inspect it. We observed a unit two doors down that had the door open and was empty. The manager stated that they had probably put their lock on my unit as a joke when they left. She then told me it would cost me $50 to have the lock cut off by their contractor. I asked to look back at the cameras to see if we could see if the person could be identified. The employee stated that the cameras only captured back the last two weeks and that it would be pointless to review the video. I told her I wasn't paying for the lock to be cut off. There was no word following this until I had my bank decline their charge. I put a call into their corporate office (which is only a voice-mail that gets forwarded to the regional manager) who finally agreed to waive the cost of cutting the lock. When I called to schedule the cut, a male employee informed me my March rent would be waived in addition to the lock cost. When I went in to remedy the locks, I was told I would have to pay the full amount plus a late charge in addition to nearly being accused of placing the other lock on myself. A call back to the corporate number garnered an email from the regional mgr deflecting blame about my property being secure and "graciously" waived the late fee. I should not be charged for time I didn't have access to my belongings.Business Response

In February, someone placed a lock on this tenant's unit without her knowledge or permission. We had to wait until the tenant was available before we cut the lock and granted her access to her unit. We did not charge a fee to cut this lock off her unit. Tenant claimed she should receive a free month rent for March for when she was unable to access her unit, which was no fault of Simply Self Storage. We waived late fees for tenant, and she stated she would move out by the end of March. We consider this issue closed.Initial Complaint

Ms. ******* allowed her key and code to be attained by someone, provided that person access to our facility when they were not a tenant, and that person entered Ms. ********* rented unit and left her items in the hallway. We made several attempts to contact Ms. ******* in a timely manner as soon as we noticed the issue. We have made attempts to work with Ms. ******* to resolve this issue, but she has not followed through with appointments made. Although it is regrettable that someone she knows is taking advantage of her and has taken her belongings, there is no fault on our part. We wish she had complied with the terms of the lease and did not share her personal information and key with anyone.Initial Complaint

We rented a storage unit at 3171 S High St, I think my storage unit is ***. I no longer live on ********. That is why I have a storage unit. the manager assured us the rent would not increase.
They know my address is not on ********, but they still mailed a billing notice to that address in August. I have had multiple problems with my mail and the post office box.
I am on an auto debit pay plan with this company. I was unaware the rent increased.
Somehow we are now behind and owe late fees and the rent increase.

Hi! And thank you for your service. Unfortunately, this is the second complaint against this business. The former one was resolved. I closed my account with this organization two months ago. I called five times, getting the answering machine. One time I talked with a person. All messages left asked for a return phone call. Everything was emptied out of the storage unit. And yet, we were charged the monthly fee: 03/04/2022 SS STORAGE- COOKE ROAD -$119.65 My bank reversed the charges after I filed a complaint with them. Then today, they charged me again! 05/03/2022 SS STORAGE- COOKE ROAD XXXXXXXXXXXX6013 -$119.65 We need an immediate refund of 119.65 from the company. As before, the phone calls go to an answering machine, and emails sent to *********@simply.com bounce back. Thank you.Business Response
