My dog was taken into the emergency vet before nausea and digestive problems. Upon arriving we were told that there was a four-hour wait and I called before we went to let them know I was coming so they referred me to another veterinarian an hour away from them. I went to that veterinarian mind you it was about 2:00 in the morning at this time I Rush my dog in there they get me in right away they tell me that she has nausea and that without regular testing they cannot diagnose her with anything instead they gave her a nausea shot and ********** for pain. They told me the nausea medication would last 24 hours and it would take effect within 1 hour by the time we got home it was 6:00 a.m. and the shot nor the ********** worked for her she was still in an expense amount of pain the next morning I had to take her to the veterinarian again because the medication they gave me the night prior to nothing for her. I drove 4 hours just to take my dog to the vet just for them to give her medication that didn't work for her

I visited the ****** location on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th of October. On the 28th, we went in around 3:30pm and I explained that my cat was straining to urinate and he was in obvious pain. We were not seen by the vet until around 9 pm that night. The vet told me that they never suspected a blockage earlier so they put him at the bottom of the waiting list. Then, she re-examined him around 5-5:30pm because he wouldn’t use the litter box they provided him and she discovered the blockage…they didn’t tell me any of this or provide any care for him until 9 pm! A urinary blockage is life threatening and painful. We chose to have him catheterized and drained and then we took him home. On the 29th, he hadn’t peed all morning and was straining in the litter box, so I took him back in around 12:30pm because I suspected his blockage had come back. I explained everything to the vet (after waiting for 3 hours), and she told me that his bladder was small so she didn’t suspect another blockage and he was probably just in pain so we had to take him home with MORE pain meds and he was STILL straining to pee. That night he started acting really weird so we rushed him to the ***** location around 2am where we were seen immediately because of his condition he was in and we were told he was definitely blocked again. We ended up having to put him to sleep. I have no complaints about the ***** location, as they were wonderful and sympathetic with us. However, I have EVERY problem with the ****** location. They caused my cat to suffer for HOURS because of plain negligence, and not to mention the hundreds of dollars I spent on medications that didn’t even help him! I understand there is a priority for pets that is followed, but this was a life threatening diagnosis and my baby was pushed to the side constantly by the ****** location. I can send pictures of receipts and everything, but I would like a full refund from my visit on the 29th, because of the negligence that occurred.

On Friday, October 20th, 2023, at 4PM, I took my dog to MedVet *****, to be treated for a suspected ear infection. He was circling and acting oddly. I explained that I thought he had an ear infection and they said they would "take him back" and check him out. I asked to be present and they refused. I was told it was not policy to allow owners to accompany their pets for treatment. Owners are allowed to hold a dog to be euthanized but they cannot witness other medical procedures? Incredible. Dr. ***** ***** ******* saw my dog, ****, and came out to speak with me. She said he likely had vestibular disease and that I should take him home, make him comfortable, and if he was not better by Monday, to bring him in and we would euthanize him. She gave him an injection to calm his nausea, but did not send me home with more. When I asked if she wanted to see the medicine I was using in his ears, she declined, even though I brought it for her edification. She said it did not matter whether he had an ear infection or not because his other symptoms pointed to the probability that he had a stroke, or vestibular disease. You can imagine my dismay after paying so much money to them for treatment, to find, TODAY, October 21, Saturday, that my dog shook his head vigorously and expelled approximately 2-3 teaspoons of green pus from his right ear! SHE NEVER EVEN LOOKED IN HIS EAR! Had she actually looked in his ear with an otoscope, as is standard procedure when managing the intake of a dog with balance issues, she would have SEEN the horrendous infection and treated him appropriately. I called the office several times, and never received a call back. When I finally got to speak to someone, I requested more cerenia for nausea, and was told they would not dispense it because that was not their responsibility and it was the responsibility of my regular vet to manage a treatment plan for him. **** has not eaten in 3 days and I do not know what to do.

    Re: Complaint ID ********

    To ****** ******:

This letter is in response to the complaint filed by *********** ***** regarding his cat, *****’s ****.  Complaint ID is ********.

We would like to formally dispute Mr. *********** *****’s complaint.  The care *****’s **** received in the Emergency Department of our hospital met the standard of care and the cost of care is appropriate.

On 8/4/23 *****’s **** was brought to our Emergency Department and Mr. *********** ***** stated that when he works 12 hour shifts and when he returned home from work he found a raw, swollen spot at the base of his cat’s ear and his cat was squinting.

Our veterinarian did a full examination and ordered ear cytology. Result of cytology, left ear: no significant findings, result of cytology, right ear: debris and cocci 1+.  The patient received a steroid and pain injection in hospital, and went home with Motazol Otic Suspension and Gabapentin 50mg tab.

We advised of the possibility of hematoma if head shaking continued and also advised follow up with family veterinarian for recheck and long-term management.

Cost of this visit to our Emergency Department was $439.43 and upon review, all charges are correct and appropriate.

Concerning the length of wait time prior to being seen, similar to human emergency department healthcare, our patients are often seen in a different order than when they arrive.  All patients are triaged up on arrival and this preliminary evaluation is to understand the severity of the condition and generally involves obtaining pets vitals. While waiting, patients are also re-triaged to evaluate changes.

Critical, sometimes life-threatening conditions are treated with the highest priority.  This may result in a wait time for more stable patients and this wait time is relative to the number of patients who present to our emergency department.

    Sincerely,

    ****** ********
