Update: I left a five star review for Dayton three years back after using them for years and years at our company. Unfortunately now I'm having to update it and drop them down with the Wards and Centrals of the trucking world. My old review mentioned them being a bit pricier than other options but worth paying for because of their reliability and consistency. That has disappeared over the past six months, our last two shipments with them were two and four days late respectively, and the last three pickups before those were all picked up a day late. Zero for five on shipments is a rough average, especially when there is no communication about delays or issues and no reasons for any of it other than poor management and refusal to hire enough good drivers. On top of all that, they attempt to tack on fees even worse than some other companies. Our latest, which is pretty laughable, is no dock door/no dock access. Despite the fact that we, ya know, have a dock and are in a string of open warehouses where trucks from their company and all others deliver and pickup just fine and have done so for decades. I've seen drivers turn around 53' trucks in our parking lot so I can't fathom what issues they're having, but that's beside the point. Go with Estes or XPO over Dayton, they've unfortunately gone from one of the most reliable carriers for us over the past thirty years to just another Central.
