I called Tinman of ******** **** on June 16th , 2022 to have someone out to fix my air conditioning. Tinman had purchased *** *** who had put in my air conditioning system, so I asked if they still had some *** *** employees. They said they had some. They were not able to get anyone to my home until Monday the 20th of June. The tech, **** looked it over and gave me an estimate with fixes ranging from a Platinum plan down to what was referred to as a Band Aid plan. I agreed to do the “Platinum Plan” thinking I could afford the $1264. At the end of the day **** came to me and said he had discovered another problem and that the price will now be doubled. He said the blower was no longer working and that its motor needed replaced. It would take a week to get the motor they had in their system He claimed it would cost some $15,000 to replace the blower with a new one. I told **** I couldn’t afford the “Platinum Plan” anymore and would like to downgrade. He said that wasn’t possible since he had already done “Platinum” work on my system. I asked for a second time for a copy of the estimate and did not receive one. **** came back later that week and installed the replacement motor in the attic, but he said he had further bad news. He said he had broken a”wheel” on the blower and that it would take at least a week to get another. I have not heard back from the company and I still don’t have a working system some one month after my initial call. I did record ****** explanation as to the charges and why I couldn’t reduce the “Platinum” plan. In discussing the matter with ***** **** Plumbing and Heating who had been out to my house a week before June 16th, he said he discovered my air handler wasn’t working which his gauge had showed him when he hooked it up to the system. That was the only issue. The only charge he thought would only be some $200 to fix the blower. *** **** is writing a letter to relay what he had diagnosed earlier.

In adding to the information submitted about case versus Tinman of ******* (and ******* *****), I have received further information from ***** **** ******** *** *******. Basically ***** diagnosed the the problem with my air conditioner was the air handler. He had already checked the condenser unit and treated the minor issues there. I was told by ***** and a couple other techs that the part to fix the air handler should be $200 or a little more. Tinman charged me $1264 for fixing a unit that wasn’t broken. The he discovered that the air handler wasn’t working and I needed to be charged another $1200 or so to fix that system. I tried to back out of the “Platinum Plan” and was told I couldn’t do it.

My thinking is that I have been taken advantage of either by willfulness or lack of skills since the problem could have been diagnosed by hooking up to the system according to *** ****. I was advised by **** the Tinman representative that replacing just the airhandler would be $15,000. *** **** says rebuilding the whole unit would be $10,500.

    I am enclosing a copy of the ***** **** ******** *** ******* bill verifying this information.

update, Tin Man called on 7/21/22 to try to work out an answer to the issue. They offered to take the $1264 as pain in full plus refund my card $243 and reduce my "plan" to bronze level. They offered to come Thursday, July 28th to replace the broken wheel. I have accepted this and hopefully they follow through. I am attaching their billing I was sent today from Tin Man plus a bill from ***** **** further explaining his service call on 6/16/22.
