June 16, 2023 we agreed to an estimate of 73000.00 to put on an addition to our garage. This price was to cover a completed job of the building including doors, electric, insulation, siding, etc. Everything for this to be a completed job. During this time they would not show up when they said they would, They never had enough materials for the workers to get a job done for the day. Their subcontractors would not show up. They delivered over 6 different colors of siding when it was to be white though Mr. ******* advised us at the beginning that he had all materials ordered and paid for. In the meantime we put up half the insulation, sealed the foundation, leveled the ground and repaired neighbors yard where the company dropped materials and just let it lay killing their grass, We also hauled away dirt, concrete, left over from demolishing old materials. They dug out a drive and put in pea gravel that was suppose to be stone. We had to call in others to do the electric, put up garage door, do the gutters and haul out this pea gravel since this company did not do what they said they would do. Many times when trying to call they would not return my calls or texts. It took them 4 months to get the building up. Then they had October through Feb. to get the gutters done. They called and said their workers where there but when we went to site no one was there and Mr ******* would not answer his phone. At this point we had had enough. I have asked Mr ******* for a refund but as of yet I have not heard from him. Gutters 775.00, Garage door 4396.18, electric 3983.73, white siding and supplies 2356.83, digging out gravel and stone 400,00. Minus the 5000.00 we still own him the balance is 6911.74 that we would like to be reimbursed.

    Dear *****,

We appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention, but there needs to be clarification. Our initial discussions involved raising the existing garage roof and adding a seven-foot extension. The agreement included reusing the existing garage door and maintaining the current electrical wiring. It's important to note that Better Built Contracting specializes in Amish construction and does not handle plumbing or electrical work due to our crew's expertise. During construction, we identified water damage and rot in the existing garage structure. This unforeseen situation required additional work and materials not included in the original scope of work. We understand this may have been unexpected. We also discovered that the original garage door was beyond repair. As previously agreed upon, you opted to have another company handle the garage door replacement. It's important to clarify that this project was intended as an addition, not a complete rebuild. While a zoning permit was obtained, a building permit was never sought out for the replacement of your garage. There are no prints for the garage because as stated this was only ever to be an addition. We acknowledge that the pea gravel was left on-site at your request. This was leftover material from the concrete used in the addition. We take full responsibility for the incomplete gutters. These were to be installed by Doug Meade, but unfortunately, the work was not completed. We will be reimbursing you for the cost of the gutters. Following the deduction for the gutters, the remaining balance due for the project is $4,275. We kindly request prompt payment of this amount. It is our hope to resolve this matter amicably. However, if further action is necessary, Better Built Contracting reserves the right to invoice you for the additional labor and materials required due to unforeseen project changes. We value your business and look forward to a satisfactory resolution. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require further clarification.

    Sincerely,
     Better Built Contracting, LLC

In regards to the response Better Built Contracting has sent:

First I am aware they have an Amish crew.  I was told this was going to be a completed project and that was the main reason we went with this company.  We would have went with our  previous quote otherwise, being it was cheaper but we had no issues paying more for a completed job where we wouldnt of had to do all the extra work that we did.  Our previous quote was also from an Amish contractor.  This was what we was trying to avoid.  This company knew we had drainage issues before they even began so Im not sure what additional work and materials they are referring too.  They never informed us on this issue and they did not do any extra work or repairs.   I do have pictures of their addition and that is all they did.  Our garage door was not damaged in any way.  I have pictures of that too they just couldn't find extensions for it per Mr Garrett.  As far as permits we had what we was suppose to have.  Better Built is the experts in this and if anything else should have been required they should have told us.  The pea gravel was not left by our permission.  When questioning about this Mr ******* said he would take care of it but someone else was using his bob cat at the time.  This company sent a man, **** ******* to do the electric.  He was there two days but when we found out he wasn't allowed to hook up the electric we found someone who was qualified to do it and they got it all done within a couple of days. If electric wasn't included then why did they send someone to do it???  There was no project changes that we know of.  At the beginning they was told the foundation needed built up some.  This didn't solve the problem anyway so what they did didn't fix this situation.  If this company wants to resolve this we are willing to let it go as even up as far as money goes.  We will take this as lesson learned to do research on a company first before trusting them.
