On 11/18/22 I called Jerry Haag motors in Hillsboro Ohio to schedule an appointment for a fire safety recall on a block heater for my vehicle a **** ***** ********* **** ********. The service department rep asked me if I purchased the vehicle from their dealership. I said no. He said they aren’t scheduling appointments for non customers. I ended the call and contacted GM directly. The rep for GM contacted Haag. Haag told the GM rep that the parts are in back order. The GM told me the parts are showing available too her. She said she would work on this today and Haag should eventually call me to make an appointment. To my knowledge a certified dealership service center should honor a recall? What do I do if my truck burns my garage and house down?

      To Whom It May Concern:

This correspondence is in response to complaint ID ******** of **** ****** who scheduled an appointment with our service department and was unhappy with the way we communicated with him. *** ****** called our service department to schedule an appointment to address a recall that was released by General Motors. Unfortunately, replacement parts for this particular recall were sparse with most on backorder. Dealers around the country, including us, were having difficulty getting the amount we needed to cover the demand. When this is the case, it is our dealership policy to prioritize loyal, repeat customers for available parts and appointments. When our service advisor addressed this with Mr. Gunkel, he immediately cut the conversation short and called General Motors to complain.

My service manager spoke with the GM rep, who is simply a communication liaison between dealers and customers. He told them of the issue in getting parts and took down Mr. Gunkel's information and agreed to contact *** ****** when the part arrived. The GM Rep was to follow up with *** ****** to let him know. In the meantime, *** ****** also felt the need to contact the BBB to issue a complaint.

At this juncture, I feel that *** ****** is not ever going to be happy with our dealership and would be better off taking his truck to the dealer where he purchased it. We will stand by our policy of prioritizing customers that think enough of us to purchase and service their vehicles here. At our small dealership, loyalty is what keeps the doors open. It is a two-way street with rewards for both us and the customer whose business we treasure. We make no secrets nor apologies of this fact.

      Sincerely,

      Steven R. Haag

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

      Regards,

      **** ******

In response to Jerry Haag’s response.

In response to Jerry Haag Motors response:
I was not given the opportunity to schedule an appointment. I was asked if I purchased the vehicle at the Hillsboro dealership location. I said no. Then I was immediately told their customers come first and that I could not be scheduled for an appointment and that they would take my information and call me when they have an opening. Given this is not the GM protocol that is mentioned in the recall notice nor deemed appropriate by customer service at GM, I ended the call deciding Jerry Haag’s refusal to honor GM’s certified dealership and repair center ethics policy needed to be reported. Especially given this recall is a fire hazard. No mention of a lack of parts was presented in the conversation to me by Jerry Haag. The dealership told GM they didn’t have the parts after GM contacted Jerry Haag. The conversation is supposedly recorded between me and the dealership and with GM customer service.
