We had Ohio state waterproofing give us quote first issue being they threw out fixes and never entered my crawlspace. The first salesman blamed the weather. Then a “sales manager” came out and he never went down either. We applied for financing and they didn’t let us know whether or not we had been approved. Everything with this company has “required” them to visit. The “sales manager” shows up one evening unannounced and I explain the whole house is sick and he’s trying to insist I sign documentation. To further escalate the situation my wife lost her job a few days later and attempted to contact the “sales manager” who ignored it and brought another “manager” and when we explained that with one salary this project was no longer an option for us they threatened arbitration and stated they had no choice. Basically attempting to intimidate us into it even though financially it’s not possible off our current one salary. I am not looking for a single dollar but after all of this I do not want to continue any business with this companyBusiness Response

Thank you for the opportunity to address the complaint filed by Mr. and Mrs. ******. We take customer feedback seriously and appreciate the chance to clarify the situation regarding their experience with our company.
Mr. and Mrs. ****** entered into a contract with us on January 22, 2025, for home repair and waterproofing services. Shortly after signing the contract, they canceled it nearly a month after the rescission period had elapsed.
Throughout the process, we made multiple attempts to communicate with Mr. and Mrs. ****** to schedule follow-up appointments necessary for preparing the work. Unfortunately, our efforts to reach them were met with limited responsiveness. We often found it challenging to secure a time for discussions or appointments, as they frequently did not return our calls or confirm scheduled meetings.
On one occasion, we arrived for a scheduled appointment and learned that the homeowners were unwell and requested that we contact them again once they had recovered. We fully understand that health issues can arise, and we certainly want to be accommodating. However, this incident, along with others, contributed to the difficulties we faced in moving forward with their project.
Our goal is to provide exceptional service and support to our clients, and we remain committed to resolving any outstanding issues amicably. We believe that open and consistent communication is key to a successful partnership, and we regret that this was not achieved in this case.
I personally have reached out to the customer based on the complaint that was filed to give an explanation and close this matter
Unfortunately to this date, we have still not received a return call we considered this matter closed and further contact will not take place.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope this clarifies our position, and we are open to any further discussions that may help resolve this situation.Initial Complaint

On the 24th day of May 2024 I entered into an agreement with Ohio State Home Services, inc. / Ohio State Waterproofing herein referred to as "OSW" to perform repair work on my home. The work involved digging up sunk and damaged concrete around my driveway that was a repair from previous work and reseal the outside cove. Part of the contract that I signed that day the contract specifically states: "Contractor agrees to furring all materials, labor, machinery and equipment necessary to service the below grade masonry for the above named buyer(s). The contractor represents that the instillation work will be completed on or before 8/31/2024. I interpreted this to mean that the work would be completed before August 31 2024. I had paid by credit card on May 24th 2024 for the work to be completed. The work was originally scheduled to be done in July 29th. On that day it rained, so the work could not be done. OSW then rescheduled the work to be done September 24th and on that day, it again rained and the work could not be done. OSW then wanted to reschedule the work to be done in November 15th of which I stated would be unacceptable. OSW eventually rescheduled to October 10th and only completed half the work. They replaced the concrete but did not re-seal the outside cove. They also broke the downspout on my house. On October 16th ***** ****** came to my house and was supposed to re-seal the outside cove but did not because the driveway was wet from rain. He said he'd have to reschedule to next year April 1st 2025. This is unacceptable and a breach of contract. The original contract that I had signed specifically stated that the work will be completed on or before 8/31/2024. I am not comfortable paying for a service that I did not get. I told ***** that the rest of the week was supposed to be good weather and invited him to complete the work tomorrow, but he said that he’s "all booked up." This is unacceptable. I paid for a service I didn't get.Business Response

**Subject: Complaint Against Ohio State Waterproofing for Unsolicited Calls After Request to Stop** I am writing to file a formal complaint against Ohio State Waterproofing for their refusal to honor my request to stop contacting me. I initially contacted Ohio State Waterproofing to request an estimate for waterproofing work at my home. However, I was informed by a representative that they would not send someone for the estimate unless both my spouse and I were present. The representative then suggested I call back at a more convenient time for both of us and abruptly hung up the phone. Following this interaction, I decided to contract another company for the work. Despite this, Ohio State Waterproofing has continued to call me multiple times. Today, at approximately 2:00 PM, I returned their call and explicitly requested that they remove me from their call list and cease further contact. The female representative I spoke with stated that they do not use a telemarketing company, therefore, they can continue to call, and she was unable to identify who was making the calls. When I asked to be removed from any database they might have, she claimed that they do not maintain one. This repeated contact after my explicit request to stop is in direct violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), which prohibits businesses from continuing to call consumers once they have been asked to stop. I am requesting that Ohio State Waterproofing be instructed to cease all further contact with me immediately. I also urge you to investigate this matter to prevent similar issues from affecting other consumers.Business Response

The job that Ohio State Waterproofing was far from quality, aside from leaving two and a half to three hours early each day, they killed a decent amount of grass in my front yard, and left some holes from the buckets of quick dry cement mix that turned into cement due to rain, which they left in my yard the whole 5 days they were there, after the job, the part of my driveway by the house that they dug up started to sink, not settle, flat out sink, to which they said when I called “oh that’s normal”, until a supervisor came out to look at it, and he even said “ok yea that shouldn’t be down that far”, the company had to come back out a few days later to “redo” the outside, which consisted of just using a steel stamper to flatten the area out and they used gravel from my driveway to fill the whole that was in my flower bed, Mike the manager called me to hear my concerns with the job, and I asked about a discount or reimbursement of some kind, to which he laughed out loud and said “yea, that’s not going to happen”, in the end, I’m repairing my grass and holes in the yard because I own a small landscape business and I don’t trust them to fix it properly, and the company is cutting me a check for the materials, which is $260, doesn’t feel like they truly care about their customers, not to mention how urgent the manager needed me to contact the bank to pay them, a supervisor had to come out and “supervise” me calling the bank to make sure it got done. All this to be said, I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone, they’ve already had 14 complaints in the last 12 months, overall not a good experience.Business Response

May ****************************************************************** my floor ducts. I was charged and paid in full paid approx. $20.000 in Sept 23 the problem persisted. I reported this to them and a technician came out and made arrangement to return to rectify it in January 24. However, we subsequently, around Dec 24 discovered that the problem of water in the ducts were caused by issue with plumbing ( the waste pipe under ground was clog and rotted). The plumbing issue was address and that resolved the problem which cost approx $6000. I then contacted Ohio State Waterproofing explained my findings and requested a fair and reasonable financial redress. The individual I spoke with requested that I send a detailed invoice assessment to him which I did. After much back and forth communication no resolves. It came down to their Counsel ************* me to say that his Client does not agree to a full refund ($19,990) which I eventually requested after being put through much frustration, However, the last responds as of April 24 from Ohio State Waterproofing Representative was that his client would agree to a much smaller amount in good faith. I ask that he disclose what was the good faith amount and the written feedback I received was $2000. This is the unfair situation Im facing with this company, I appreciate you assistance. Thank you.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
I requested a full refund. I was charged approx. $20.000 for the job. I also paid an additional approx $6000 to fix the problem (plumbing). The good faith offer of $2000 does not compensate. $2000 is not a fair and reasonable financial redress.Initial Complaint

Contract signed 11/13/2023, work done on 12/04/2023. Nothing stated to us to was true. My basement was totally destroyed by these people. We were told there would be no mess left behind and everything would be just like it was when they arrived. Nothing could be further from the truth. It took me a month to clean the cement dust, the laundry floor and main floor were so scraped and destroyed they had to be totally redone, all of the walls were scraped and gouged having to be redone. The outside of my house is a mess, they even tore down a brick retaining wall that shouldn't even been touched. I was able to scrape and repaint the laundry but the main floor was done in epoxy and I am having to have carpet installed to keep down the expense. The carpet estimator states they have seen a lot of bad jobs by this company but mine is the worst. Two reclining chairs were broken by them that had to be hauled away.Customer Answer
Date: 03/23/2024
There were two Lazy Boy recliners in the family room, they were old but both were broken and I had to have them hauled away. I do not have a receipt for the haullng, that was a cost of $275.00. Since the chairs were older I can only put a price of $200. each.
I also do not have the receipt or cost for the new carpet installation as they just did the measurements and do not have the final cost. The floor was done in epoxy and to try to redo the epoxy is a daunting expense, therefore the chose of carpet is the only reasonable thing to do cost wise. I should have the receipt within a week to 10 days.
I also do not have any estimates for the exterior due to the weather conditions. New mulch will have to be brought in and the retaining wall will have to be remortered.

Paid 17,000 cash for basement waterproofing within the last 3 years. In the beginning of February we contacted OSW that our basement leaked. We had to tear up the carpet, as it was all wet. The company said they would be out February 26, 2024. Came out and said they had to take out a portion of their work. On March 12,2024, the. Repair was done and it was established that the two channels were not connected to drain out properly!! I have paid the $75.00 dollar warranty fee required each year. When questioned if they are replacing the carpet, I was told they don’t do that!! I said, “Do you not guarantee your work?” Yes only work. But wait….I had my basement ?? waterproofed with a guarantee my basement would not take on water!!!! I am very mad ??. Why should I not expect them to cover all damages??? Am expecting a call form owner. If not I expect the Attorney General to handle this matter. If not I will file a lawsuit.Business Response

Customer Answer
Date: 03/18/2024
I am rejecting this response because: I do not understand why this service has to come to my house. What he has to say could/ should be done in writing. After reading the multitude of complaints to the BBB, I see this ok a as an intimidation ploy. The fact that they are just going to debate me and state that they only guarantee their work and product upsets me. I was told I will have a dry basement-as stated on the front page of their own Handbook! It is shameful how businesses manipulate the very words and promises they made. I will meet with the service manager but I do not see a promising outcome. Hopefully OSW will show some integrity. I also thought the BBB would advocate more by being involved more in this mediation than just writing the company on my behalf. I expressed that on my own with then supervisor that came out to my house. I asked for a phone call from the owner.
Did the owner call me - No!!!!!Business Response

We did have the opportunity to sit with customer. We feel we provided a favorable solution that was unfortunately rejected. We are more than willing to keep what was discussed an option in the future. - Ohio State WaterproofingCustomer Answer
Date: 03/28/2024
I am rejecting this response because:
Due to the fact that OSW has acknowledged they are responsible for the situation, we feel their retribution should reflect payment for the damages in full. The fact that OSW has placed a stipulation that we show a receipt for replacement of the carpet, of which, we may or may not due, is further irrelevant to this case and our decision to make. I want full payment of the carpet with no stipulations. As a result of this case, the integrity of OSW has been compromised.Initial Complaint

In April of 2023, I signed a contract with Ohio state waterproofing for my crawl space. This included their multi-step system: both an interior and exterior waterproofing system and sump pump. In late fall after the job was complete, I noticed that some abandoned pipe pentrations in the foundation wall were leaking, so I made a maintenence call. The maintenence workers came out January 23rd, 2024. They dug up the exterior where the pipes were located and discovered that there was absolutely no new exterior pipe, tar or plastic. They dug down to the footing to confirm this. During the initial install, I went out about once an hour watched as they dug the hole. I saw all the material for the job sitting in my front yard. Yet the supervisor lied to my face about the work that was performed. While the company seems willing to fix the issue, my trust in their company is completely compromised. I still don't know if it is only one wall that was missed or if nothing on the exterior of the house was done. The company can only provide incomplete photos the interior system. Even if they fix the issue, I don't know if I can trust the quality of their work. It's also a great inconvenience to have my yard dug up again. I will also have to take off work because they apparently need a babysitter. I hired a trusted and reputable company and spent a 5 digit sum. I didn't pay to be lied to and scammed.Business Response

Hello, Our Service Supervisor ***** ****** met with Ms. ***** and listened to her concerns. We have set work to be completed on Feb 26-28th. ***** our Service Manager will also be on site to ensure all the work goes smoothly. - Ohio State WaterproofingCustomer Answer
Date: 01/29/2024
I am rejecting this response because: Even if you have a supervisor on site and fix the issue, your company has betrayed my trust. Said supervisor didn't even have the decency to call me to notify me that I was scheduled or to report why the job wasn't done right in the first place. I had to call them. I also demand a billing adjustment based on how much they find wasn't done the first time. I'm not paying full price for a job that has to be done twice. I'm getting legal representation and have no problem taking you to court over it.

On 10/25/23 salesman ***** ***** from Ohio State Waterproofing came to my house for water collecting at the bottom of the basement steps. ***** proceeded to tell me I needed repairs, sum total of which was 24,390 (25,390 if I didn't let them know I wanted the repairs within about 48 hours). This was intentionally not enough time to seek a second opinion. Mold concerns raised and its effect spurred me into signing a contract to schedule the repairs. I signed up for the on call service, and on December 5th I received a call stating they could start the work the next day and that they'd be done by Friday. I took the time off of work last minute so I could be home if they needed my assistance in any capacity, and the morning of the 6th, they called me to inform me they wouldn't be able to make it till the 7th. The crew did manage to finish the job in two days, however during the process broke my sewer main and had to repair it. Waited the weekend in hopes the water would stop and it did not. Water was still collecting in the same place. The next week, they sent another crew to dig yet another finger drain right next to the area collecting water. Still did not solve the problem. Yesterday, yet ANOTHER crew came out, I gave them permission to remove part of a finished wall to continue the dura shield across a 5-6 inch section as they believed that was the issue. This morning I woke up to more water. Tore a hole in my drywall to find a leaky plumbing fitting, which was the root cause THE ENTIRE TIME. I called Ohio State on Dec 16th, starting at 9 (an hour after their posted hours) till noon and received no answer, nor a call back after leaving a message. Had to call an emergency plumber to come fix the problem as I had to shut the house water off to stop the spray, costing an additional 400 dollars. I am not looking for a refund in full, as the work was done, however I do want reimbursed for the plumber, and a portion of my bill reduced as this repair was extraneous.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: they claim they called on 1/12 and today's date is 1/10. We did finally make contact yesterday and arranged a meeting, but I have no voice mails between mid December and the one they left yesterday, so perhaps they called the wrong number initially. We will be meeting next week, on the 16th after 5 p.m. to discuss further.
