In July 2023 I called Reliable Metal Buildings about purchasing a 20’x21’ metal garage building. After speaking to **** I decided to pay the deposit and agreed to have the building put up. I paid an extra $300. because my site was not perfectly level. The agreed date to set it up was Sept 22,2023. The crew was suppose to be at my home to set it up at 1:00 pm. The guy called me at 8:300 and said he was at my home to start work. I was not home and it was pouring rain. I had to leave work to be there while they worked. The crew was 3 Hispanic males who literally spoke no English. When they finished I paid them $3,243.47 with a cashiers check. It was raining so hard it was hard to check the quality of there work. The next day I started looking and measuring and realized the building was completely out of level and uneven. I called **** numerous times before I finally got a hold of him. I explain my situation to him and he ask me to send him pictures, which I did. This was early October 2023, **** continued to put me off, but assured me that he would get a crew to correct their mistakes. This went on until July of 2024, I called again to see when I could expect a resolution to this dilemma. **** would not even come to the phone and had Jerri in the office tell me that there was nothing they could do, but they would refund my $300.that I paid because the blacktop site was not level. I finally received the $300. check. This is a very unprofessional company in the way they handle this situation. I was assured from the beginning that they make sure every customer is totally satisfied.

The customers site was not even remotely close to level. The requirement for a level site is clearly spelled out on the contract, and should be common sense. We attempted to adjust the building on site (and have videos of the effort), but it was too far out of level to completely compensate for. We called and discussed this with the customer and offered him a discount to accept the unit as is, despite the customer being responsible for his location. Customer accepted the offer and we issued the compensation check. The check has been cashed, so we consider this a closed matter.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:
This response is an outright lie. I sent them pictures of the building site and they approved it with my $300. fee because it was not perfectly level. They accepted the photos of the site **** said it would not be a problem. When I called to make them aware of an unsatisfactory job. **** said he would refund my $300 fee or they could repair the mistakes. I chose to have the mistakes corrected. **** repeatedly said they would get a crew out to correct a very unprofessional job of erecting my garage building. This is why this matter has taken 10 months because I was supposedly waiting to get a crew in this area. After waiting for **** to return my call, I finally called him, he would not even come to the phone. **** never once returned my calls. Jerri told me **** said there is nothing they could do. I called back about a month later and asked Jerri to send me my $300 fee that I paid.  I did receive that and deposited it, but nowhere was this was in lieu of a settlement and that was not stated on the check either. If ****s response to my complaint was true, then why did they put up the building anyway. They knew exactly what the site looked like.
    Sincerely,

    ******* ******

Placed an order May 30 with Quality Outdoor Storage Solutions, immediately transferred to Reliable Metal Buildings as the manufacturer. Originally told that the building would take 4-6 weeks depending on weather. Approximately 3 weeks later, Reliable Metal Buildings contacted us a stated we needed site specific plans. Paid an additional $700 for these plan. Received them weeks later engineered to the incorrect county, building inspector also stated the plans were not to code. Reliable Metal Buildings stated they would have the plans re-done. Approximately 6 weeks later we received a call for installation date. The building was built over the course of a week, when I asked Reliable Metal Buildings for a copy of the updated plans to provide for the inspection, it was revealed that they did not build to the updated design. The sales person asked us to falsify the plans to see if the building would pass inspection, we refused. A voicemail was left on 9/25 explaining that they would take down the current building, rebuild to the correct plans. Email received 9/26 stating that the owner was not going to rebuild the building and would only agree to take it down.

Reliable Metal Buildings has received no funding from the customer except for the cost of the blueprints which was transferred to the engineering company. We did not contact the customer to tell her she needed site specific prints, her building inspector required it as the inspector is unable to read blueprints, and does not know the difference between a roof live load and ground loads. The area of the state she lives in, the UP of michigan, has building codes far beyond what the current ohio/michigan adopted codes are. She has already been in contact with the independent salesman who took and retained her downpayment about a refund, RMB never received these funds and is not involved. The cost of blueprints is not refundable and she was provided with the original blueprint. RMB will not be refunding any monies to this customer.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Email received 6/9/2023 - Call **** ******** @ Reliable Steel Buildings.  His number is ************.  They are telling me you will need site-specific drawings due to the increase in framing materials due to the snow loads in the UP.  He will be able to tell you the price of those.  They will have to have plans specific to your build so they have an engineering department draw up the plans so they are certified for the building department in your area.

6/9/2023 - spoke with **** ******** and provided credit card payment for site specific plans for our address.

Email received 6/28/2023 - from **** ******** at Reliable Steel Buildings with plans from engineering firm with incorrect county data listed.

Phone conversation with **** ******** at Reliable Steel Buildings in regards to incorrect county, was told to proceed with permit process. Follow-up with **** via phone after meeting with county inpector, confirming that plans were not designed to the correct county snow load. County requirements are clearly stated on county website: **********************************************************

Emails 7/23/2023 and 7/28/2023 with **** ******** at Reliable Metal Buildings, engineering firm confirmed that they had the wrong address and requested additional funds. Refused to pay additional when **** and engineers did not follow correct information.

Emails 8/8/2023 and 8/9/2023 from **** ******** at Reliable Metal Buildings stating that the engineering firm refused to move forward without additional payment, I again pointed out the error was on ****’s and the engineers on placing our address in the wrong county.

Phone call received beginning of September stating September 20 install date.

    Construction began 9/21/2023

Email from **** ******** 9/25/2023 - with second set of plans attached.

Blueprints received 9/25/2023 revealed that the building placed on our property was built to the orginal set of plans, in the incorrect county and incorrect snow load. Immediately called **** ******** at Reliable Metal Buildings  - he admitted on the call that he had not even looked at the second set of plans (which they received at the office 9/8/2023).

9/25/2023 **** ******** from Reliable Metal Buildings left a voicemail stating that the fault was entirely theirs, he was going to the plant to have them begin a new buiding to the correct snow load. (Voicemail is saved)

9/26/2023 - email from **** ******** at Reliable Metal Buildings received stating:

    Hi ****,

I spoke with our owner regarding the structure of your Building. Unfortunately it was built to the first set of plans we received from the engineering firm.
He is confident the Building is built to withstand the snow load.  The installer with over 20 years of experience is also confident.  We would like to see if
your building inspector will pass it.  If not we would come and take the building down.  At that point the owner doesn't want to rebuild it and come back to
install it given the cost associated with it.
    Thanks,
    ****

9/27/2023 - met with Alger County Building inspector, *** ****, he reviewed the incorrect plans (which had already been denied) and the building - the building failed to pass inspection.

9/27/2023 - called and spoke with **** ******** at Reliable Buildings - he stated there was nothing he could do and that they would come take the building. The desposit would need to be refunded from sales person.

9/28/2023-10/20/2023 - multiple attempts to reach **** ******** at Reliable Metal Buildings - each time told he is out of the office. The building is still in place.

We have been working with Reliable Metal Buildings since 6/9/2023 to receive a building built to the site specific plans required by our county - instead we have a building that has failed inspection, and have lost time and funds to proceed with an alternative company. This building needs to be removed, and the funds we paid for site specific plans needs to be refunded, as Reliable Metal Buildings has failed to deliver.
