I placed a service request through ********* to repair my HVAC. The heat was not working properly. (The heat will turn on for about an hour then the air will blow cool. Eventually hot air will blow again) They assigned me to McAtee. The representative contacted me and sent a repairman on Nov. 19, 2024. After a few minutes of looking, the repairman stated that the damper switch was not opening, it is not covered through Homeserve and the cost would be $500. I signed forms through an app on his phone and he assured me that I would be emailed a copy of the forms. They were NOT emailed at that time. At that visit, I thanked him for the estimate and I told him that I would be calling in the future to repair. On December 6, 2024, I called the main number ending with 3365 to get the written estimate from the company and possibly schedule an appointment. My call was returned by **** but showed up on my caller ID as *. ****** last 4 digits 9400. At this call, the repairman had my previous information and I was given another verbal quote of $600 for the same job and that it must be paid CASH on the spot. He knew the weather was getting down to 22 degrees that night, this was a family, and there was a great need. I stated that I needed a WRITTEN estimate. He finally provided the estimate on December 6, but there was no estimated COST just what he ASSUMED the issue may be. VERY UNPEOFESSIONAL, VERY DISHONESTSTAY AWAYReview from Maurice T

As I am a customer of *********, I recently had to have a plumber come to the house. McAtee Plumbing the company associated with *********. The representative of McAtee arrived promptly on time as promised and within 30 minutes or so the problem was alleviated. *** was as professional, courteous and knowledgeable as one would want. Such a good experience. ********* and McAtee should be proud to have him as a employeeReview from Juanita C

I am filing this complaint to address the poor service provided by the contractor ********* assigned to repair our broken hot water heater. Since September 25, 2024, my family has been without hot water, and the contractors delays and substandard work have left us in unsanitary conditions. The contractor was first scheduled to arrive on October 2, after several days of waiting due to employee illness. When they finally installed a new water heater, they left without ensuring it worked. That evening, I found it wasnt functioning at all. Despite calling ********* immediately, I was told we would have to wait until the next day for the contractor to return. When the contractor came back on October 3, they were unable to fix the issue, determining that the newly installed water heater required a control valve. The part would take several more days to arrive, leaving us without hot water for nearly 12 days in total. This faulty installation caused unnecessary delays and extended hardship for my family, including unsanitary living conditions for our children and pet.Once the valve came, it was installed on the new water heater however the tech determine the unit itself was faulty. They failed us for they shouldve replaced the entire unit as as requested and used the part if needed on the broken unit later. They did not provide professional service nor did they empathize with us. Home ***** finally granted my request,to replace the company. Tomorrow will be 15 days without hot water. It due to the storm but due to McAtees incompetence.I dont know about other areas but definitely stay away from them in **.Review from Constance M

IF I COULD GIVE NO STARS I WOULD. THEY WERE SELECTED THROUGH MY HOME WARRANTY TO FIX MY AC. THE TECHNICIANS CAME OUT AND STATED IT WAS AN OLD UNIT AND THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET THE PART SO I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE UNIT. WELL MY WARRANTY COMPANY WAS ABLE TO ORDER THE PART. THE 1ST ESSTIMATE GIVEN WAS $910 OUT OF POCKET, THEN $760. THEY TOOK MY FEE TO COME OUT BY CREDIT CARD BUT SAID I HAD TO PAY THE REST IN CASH. BECAUSE OF A MIXUP WITH THE PART AND TAKING SO LONG FOR MY WARRANTY COMPANY TO GET THE PART, THEY CANCELLED EVERYTHING. FOLLOWING WEEK GOT THE PART AND WANTED ME TO PAY AGAIN FOR THEM TO COME OUT. I REFUSED AND ISSISTED ON A DIFFERENT COMPANY. THE DIFFERENT COMPANY CAME OUT, ORDERED THE PART CAME BACK AND INSTALLED WITH $0 OUT OF POCKET COST. I GUESS THAT'S WHY THEY INSISTED ON PAYING IN CASH. THEY WERE JUST GOING TO POCKET THAT MONEY.McAtee Plumbing, Heating & Air Response

The customer fileda work order through a third party warranty provider. McAtee submits its diagnosis and estimate to the provider and the provider dictates any out of pocket expense to the property owner. McAtee also has zero control over and service call fees as they are also dictated by the third party provider. McAtee submitted a diagnosis to the warranty provider, that in our professional opinion is the best course of action considering the age and condition of the unit, federal regulations controlling types of refrigerant that can be used, and the chances of another failure within a short time frame. It was our professional opinion the unit needed replaced taking these factors into account.Review from Sharon L H

IF I COULD LEAVE NO STARS I WOULD! SCAM AND LIARS!! (Columbia SC) My grandmother (Mrs. ******) contacted home ***** for a technician to look at her air Conditioner that went out. The 1st appt (April 2024) the technician came out and was AT FIRST very polite and knowledgeable about the A/C and he was able to get it working … but only for a couple of hours, then it went out again. He came back the next day (2nd appt) and stated that the wiring had been eaten by rodents and that she has a leak under the house. Why didn’t he notice it the first time? He then sent photos to **** ***** but did not let my grandmother see the photos of the eaten wires and leak . Due to her being skeptical about it she contacted a separate company that was outside of the **** ***** to come and check it out. That company stated THEY DID NOT see any eaten wires. But since the A/C still was not working she decided to get that company to replace the A/C. My grandmother also had an exterminator come and see if there were even any rodents and the exterminator said THERE WAS NOT any rodents. Lastly she had a plumber come to check out the “leak” which he stated that there was NO LEAK. A representative from **** ***** called my grandmother and stated that she received the pictures from Mcatee of the rodents eaten cords. My grandmother then stopped her and stated those pictures had to be FALSE because she had 3 separate companies come and look at the A/C and space around A/C and there were NO EVIDENCE of rodents or a leak. Mcatee thought my grandmother was going to fall for their scam and they tried to make a deal with her to “fix” her A/C wires which was not even the actual problem. Her advice to everyone is to NOT use this company for anything!!!!!McAtee Plumbing, Heating & Air Response

Upon reviewing the events described, we'd like to clarify the situation. During McAtee's initial visit on April 15, 2024 as dispatched by the homeowners Third-Party Administrator (TPA), our technician identified rodent activity under the residence, which had resulted in wiring damage affecting your air conditioning system. We documented this issue promptly, with the technician noting the necessity for wire replacement and further assessment to ensure the system's proper functioning. We also uploaded and shared documenting images of the rodent droppings inside of the HVAC unit with the homeowners TPA. McAtee while still on site promptly called the homeowners TPA for advising on how to proceed. The representative from the homeowner's TPA determined that the damage caused by rodent activity did not fall under the scope of coverage due to being categorized as non-normal wear and tear. Consequently, the representative advised McAtee against proceeding with the job any further under the homeowner's policy. This decision was communicated to both the homeowner and McAtee, leading to a halt in further work on the property at the decision of the homeowners TPA. We understand your concerns regarding the discrepancy in observations made by other service providers. However, it's important to note that rodent activity can sometimes be sporadic and may not be immediately evident to every observer. Our technician's assessment was based on his professional expertise and the evidence observed and documented during our visit. Regarding the photos of the damaged wires, we apologize for any miscommunication or oversight in not presenting them to you during the visit. We acknowledge the importance of transparency in our operations and will ensure better communication in the future. We stand by our assessment of the situation and the recommended course of action to address the wiring damage. Our priority is always to provide accurate diagnoses and effective solutions to our customers' HVAC issues. McAtee is simply the contractor and is not able to determine coverages set forth in the contract between the homeowner and their TPA. At McAtee, we take great pride in customer satisfaction, as evidenced by our 4,100+ 5-Star Google Reviews. It is unfortunate that this review was written before any constructive work was performed by McAtee. This review should realistically be left for the homeowners TPA as it is a review based on the homeowners disagreement with the TPA's coverages of their HVAC system.Review from Yolanda M
