I signed up for this service because I was seeking help with my job search. I have found it difficult to land interviews or job offers in past job searches; and the courses and tutorials that they offer with their program have proven equally unhelpful, as the things the program teaches still have not yielded any results as far as landing an interview or a job. A request that I submitted to them on April 2 for a refund in light of this has gone without reply.

    Business Response

    Date: 04/17/2024

We did respond to ******'s complaint email of 9:50 PM ET on 4/2/2024. We responded the morning of 4/3/2024.  I will put a copy of that email below.

In our program, The Job Search School, we offer 6 weeks of job search training, a weekly live question and answer call, and personalized services such as resume critique and LinkedIn Profile review. ****** wrote in his complaint that he was having another company (outside of us) prepare a resume for him and that he was not having success. He had applied for his resume critique and profile review with us, but didn't even wait to get that back from us before he complained that our program was not working and he wanted a refund.

First, we are very transparent to our clients that we do not offer refunds based on a client getting a job. We could never offer a guarantee that clients will get a job because we have no control over how the interview process goes or the decisions of a hiring manager. However, we do provide all of the tools that can make them successful in the job search and we have literally thousands of clients who have used our program successfully. You can see many of our recommendations on my personal LinkedIn profile at *********************************************.

Next, the client has not utilized our program fully and is bouncing all over between our program, other resume writers, etc. and is not applying the teaching that may allow him to be successful. We will not be offering a refund to this client based on our terms and conditions, but will offer to continue to work with him to move him forward in a positive direction in his job search. We have now spent the time on his profile review and resume critique and he has those. He also still has a year's access to the membership area. Here is my personal response to his email asking for a refund (note: I have removed the link to access for security reasons):

    Hi ******:

Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear that things aren't going well for you, but I will do my best to work through these issues with you.

I do want to let you know up front that you are not currently eligible for a refund due to our terms and conditions. We have never guaranteed results, nor would we since that is totally out of our hands. I make that point very clear on the webinar you watched before purchase as well as in the terms. We provide the most up to date tools and resources to assist you in your job search, but we have no control over whether a company will hire you after interviews. I am sure you can understand that.

Let's talk about what we can do to resolve this. You purchased on 2/22/2024. In the first two weeks we teach you how to complete the LinkedIn profile correctly and then we move on to the resume. We then offer you a profile review and resume critique. I see that you have submitted for that and it is due back to you shortly. I am not sure why you would not have waited for that review prior to reaching out to someone else for help.

I personally don't recommend professional resume writers and instead opt to teach you how to write the resume yourself. And that is what we were in the process of doing with you. One of the main reasons that I don't recommend getting the resume written for you is that most of the time you don't get an ATS proof resume back and only using one resume for your job search will actually hurt your job search. In today's job search, you have to have an ATS proof resume and you have to customize a resume for each job you apply for. If you don't, you won't score high enough on the applicant tracking systems to get interviews.

While I can appreciate that you are confused and have been given conflicting information, I think a big part of the problem is that you aren't putting your trust into one person (me, for example) and following that advice to the end. My program is proven to work and you can see the many recommendations on my LinkedIn profile from clients we have helped. I am still here to help you with whatever you need help with, but my best advice is that you follow the program and stick with it for the best results. When you try to bounce around between experts, you usually find your job search will just bounce around as well.

You have access to the program for an entire year. You should still have access, but if there is any problem with that let our customer service know right away. Here is the link and if you have lost the password, you can click lost password to change that:

    -------------------------------------------------------

Please let me know how else I can support you and if you have further questions. I am always here to help.

    Your Dream Job is Waiting,

    ***** ***********
    President
    *******************************

And for your review, here is the previous email from ****** (we responded with the above email).

This is to inform you that I am currently in the process of getting my resume reworked, as even though it was written by a professional and purported to be ATS-friendly I am still not getting to the interview stage.  I have also been getting conflicting advice as to whether to tailor the resume to the job description, and whether I do so or not I still cannot get in front of the hiring manager.

I have been doing everything possible that is taught in this program, but I am still not getting anywhere.  Also, I no longer see a link to log in and access the teaching materials.  I do have a job lined up, but it is with a previous employer and I will not be able to start until the middle of May.  Therefore, I feel that this program has really been a complete waste of my time and money.

Therefore, I must ask that my purchase of the Job Search School training course and Job Search School be fully and immediately refunded.  This also means that I will no longer be following you or your organization on LinkedIn or Facebook.  You have lost a student and a customer today.

    ****** *********

Please let us know if we can provide any further information to help with this complaint.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Their response is very similar to that of multiple complaints filed against them over the last year.  The principles that they teach are ones that I have been applying to both my current job search and my previous job searches, all of which have proven ineffective.  To this end I have been trying several different methods from several different sources (including The Job Search School), all of which have contradicted one another and have proven equally ineffective.  The Terms and Conditions are therefore irrelevant to my complaint.

    Sincerely,

    Hi ******:

As already stated, we never guarantee specific results in your job search as that would be unethical as it is out of our hands as to how you interview and what decisions hiring managers make. You are asking for a refund based on a guarantee that does not exist. We will not be granting a refund for that reason and due to our terms and conditions (which you agreed to prior to purchase).

You have used our program and you requested the personalized services. You complained before you even got the personalized resume critique and LinkedIn profile review back! You didn't wait for your review, but instead hopped over to a resume writer and tried to use their suggestions as well as ours and all it has done is cause confusion. We spent the time to do your personalized work as you requested and you have utilized the program and we deserve to be paid for those services.

Our program can work if you stick to the program and follow the training and strategies. We have thousands of satisfied customers. We never recommend you try to work with many experts at the same time as that causes confusion and actually gets you off track. I feel that you can be successful with this program if you stick to the training in order. We also offer much more than a resume writer can offer you. Once you get your base resume done, our program teaches you that you have to customize a resume for each job you apply for. We show you step by step how to do that and offer assistance. Since you haven't even utlized the base resume review we gave you, I am certain you have not been customizing resumes when you apply for jobs. I teach you in the training that if you don't customize resumes for jobs you apply for online, you most likely will not get interviews. I feel this is the point where you are currently stuck.

It is not the methods of The Job Search School that are ineffective. You have to apply them as we teach. We are willing to work with you and help you get your resume customized for the specific jobs that are a good fit for you. I can offer you additional one-on-one help with someone from my staff as well. If you find after customizing the resumes properly that you are not hearing back (you will never hear back from all, but you should start seeing some success), I will personally do an analysis of the custom resume verses the job listing for you to find what we can do better and make adjustments. A resume writer will not do any of this for you or with you.

If you are truly interested in getting on track with your job search, we will work with you as I said to get your resume customized and help you start getting the interviews. We then gave you The Job Interview School at no charge with your program and you have all the tools there, including a mock interview app, to practice interviewing. You get a year in the program and you still have access.  I hope you see the value in this offer and decide to take us up on this. We are here to help you.

I was suckered into purchasing this "job school" and thought that the person had a money-back guarantee. In fact, they even have "money-back" guarantee on their website. But then, in fine print, they claim that they do not actually give you your money back. They claim they help you get a job, and they do not. They offer YouTube videos that are bogus. Their "job school" tips are all common sense stuff. This "job school" was false advertisement, and something should be done with their false advertisement. It was very expensive, and they don't even help you with your resume. You're supposed to write it out yourself. They also do these once-a-week calls; if you have any questions - you can ask them. But each week, it's the same repeated information.

This client has received a refund. In answering the complaint, I will do it point by point because unfortunately for us, not much of what she says is true.

***** **** purchased The Job Search School in July 2023. She freely attended a webinar and decided to purchase our product. Since our product was online, she made this decision completely on her own, she was never "suckered into purchasing".  When she went to purchase, we offer a link to our Terms and Conditions and we are very transparent about our policies. So much so, we don't allow a customer to complete their purchase until they check a box on the order form that they have read and understood our terms and conditions. ***** **** checked that box and made the purchase. (It is a required field.)

Our policy states that if you don't get all that is promised, we offer a money back guarantee. This takes the risk out of the purchase for those who are afraid of "being taken" on the internet. However, since this is an educational site with downloadable material, we make it clear that once they have used the site, we do not offer refunds. ***** **** used the site (our system shows client usage), she attended our live weekly calls and submitted and received her personaized review. She clearly used the materials and that is why she was not offered a refund.

We have never, ever promised clients a job. In fact, we state very clearly in our webinar that we can't promise them a job (that is up to them to sell themselves and for a company to chose them) but we do offer them all the tools and help they need in their job search. As a career coach, I stay with each client and offer advice until they find their job. We also do not offer a resume writing service, nor do we claim to. We offer a resume writing workshop which teaches them to write their own resume using our template and then I give them a thorough review and make suggested changes so that their resume gets past the ATS systems. In this case, ***** refused to use our resume template and wanted to use her own. She made that choice.

We offer training videos weekly for 6 weeks as promised and they are not YouTube videos. Each week we go over a different topic and each week builds on the last. The only YouTube videos on our site are the replays of the weekly live calls in case a client misses them (and they are private to our client's membership). There is nothing "bogus" about them. I show up live every Wednesday and stay on the call until all client questions are answered. These calls range from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on the amount of questions that we have come in.

***** **** has her refund now and I wish her well.

I started this **** of a school on 3/6/23, where I paid $364.00 upfront and two additional payment on 4/6/23 of $365.00, then 5/7/23 $365.00. This job search school is a ****. ***** does nothing that's she advertising, she sounded geniume to helping individual find employment. But all you receive from this school is pre-recorded video's and booklets, she's got from LinkedIn and Google and now selling this information for profit. She has open discussion day, but it's for you to send in questions and she will answer them, never vertical services to help, no number to call, on emile. She's a **** and a ***** by taking people's money, that are struggling and desperate to find employment. I was one, and nothing she offered helped me an any kind of way. I had to do my own research on LinkedIn and communicate with real leaders and found my own way. When I asked for my money back she refused because of the contract at the beginning of this **** school. I'm in law class now and when 2 parties enter a contract and one does not perform their obligations then its a breach of contract. When a contract has been breached by one party, the non-breached party will no longer be bounded by the obligations outlined in the contract. Don't let these people take advantage of you. I'm not going to sit back and let this school take my last little money cause I was desperate for help. The BBB should get involved in this **** and stop this business from taking people's hard earned money. I shouldn't even have to file a complaint on this school, they know they didn't help me so they should just give the money back. I also find a job with nothing from them, I'm grateful I did it on my own. Don't ever let someone who don't know you tell you about yourself. Hello *****, I have looked your company up to find a number to speak with someone for help but can't find one. The Job search school is for someone who has more experience in leadership or office work management. I haven't or can't use any thing from your recordings, and still don't have a complete resume or cover letter. How can I get a refund, I don't even know what I'm paying for? No live classes, just questions once a week at 2pm when people are at work, no number just email, and we doing all the work, every thing your saying is on Google resume at least if I paid a professional I would at least have them complete by now and app***** for jobs. I just want a refund, this was awful. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for a refund at this time (waiting on this month to be up). But I can help you as I have said. Let me know where you are with your resume and we will take it from there. We have much more to offer than what you can find out on Google and you will see that as you go through this program. Hello *****, ******** *******. This is not my first time reaching out to you, I have reached out 2 or 3 times now needing help and one of your managers has responded back to me but not able to help me. I don't know what's going on but I have reached out. I am going to work with you personally and get this straightened out. Let me go through the resume that you sent in and the other tickets you submitted and I will get back to you yet today. Hello *****, I really don't want to say I have HR management skills when I don't. I just don't know what to do, maybe we can do a vertical meeting one day? Thanks for your reply. I can see what you mean about not stating actual HR management experience and I can help to tweak that. ? Thank you for sending that information. I just wanted to let you know that ***** is out today so she will be in touch sometime Monday. Thank you and have a nice weekend. Hey *****, just wondering if ***** is in today and have she read the email answering the questions she needed to know? I also wanted to speak with her about the job opening I sent her. Thank you, ******** Hello *****, I already applied for the job Saturday, talked to the recruiter Monday and have a interview next week. This is why I said I wanted a refund because you said you would personally help me by asking me questions about my school and education and you weren't available when I emailed you and then your manager said you'll get back with me Monday, emailed again Monday and still didn't. You know that you haven't helped me in anyway. I've done everything by myself and I hope your not telling people to put things on there resume that's not true, because they're going to be terminated in no time. I just want a refund because you know you didn't help me at all. ?

The Job Search School program is a legitimate program that has helped nearly 6,000 clients succeed in their job search. Our terms of service are transparent and to be fair to all of our paying clients, and per the terms that were agreed to, this client is not due a refund.  We do not offer refunds after they have had access to the 6-week program and services are provided. I find it outrageous and liable that she is calling The Job Search School a ****. It is far from it.

******** ******* joined our program on March 6, 2023 and has been using our product since that time. We have a CRM system that gives us usage details on all of our clients. ******** received all of the training, tools, worksheets, group calls and personalized work promised in the program and much more. Our clients get a complete resume revamp in the program and we have done this repeatedly for ******** as she has decided to apply for very different fields in a very short period of time. We were only obligated to do this once. I do have copies of all of the work we have done for ********, but I am not going to display that here due to respect of her privacy.

As far as a resolution, we had been going back and forth with ******** prior to her submitting this and we have been unable to come to any resolution. She is not due a refund as she used the program for months and received more personalized attention than was promised. There is no breach of contract. ******** received all the tools and help that we promised. My belief is that because she decided not to follow the program as it was intended, and just “cherry pick” what she wanted to do, her results have suffered.

We are very clear in our offer to tell potential customers that we do not guarantee anyone a job. We simply can’t do that because they have to put in the work of researching the companies they want to work for and they have to sell themselves at the interview. We can’t do any of that for them and we have no decision-making power as to who gets the positions. ******** still thinks that she shouldn’t have to do much of the work, despite my coaching to the contrary.

Sometimes there is no resolution that will work between parties. In this case, we just have to agree to disagree. We have let ******** keep her access to the program and we have told her that she can continue to use our support and we will continue to assist her. She has used our resources for her resumes, her LinkedIn profile and her job search overall.

Our program works when clients follow the program as set out. You can see hundreds of testimonials for the program on my LinkedIn profile here: *********************************************

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because ***** is ***** on some many things. I told ***** within 2 weeks that this program is for someone who have more job experience than me and I was changing my whole career and the things she wanted me to do, I couldn't due to my experience and she knows it, that's why she replied I'm not eligible for a refund AT THIS TIME and she would help me personally. She knew then it was only 2 weeks in, and she should have just refunded me back my money.

Then she wanted me to lie and say I have experience in HR when she knew I didn't and I told her that I'm not comfortable starting a new job based on a lie and she said well I can tweak that for you. I did look at several job positions, which anyone would do when trying to find your way while searching for employment based on the skills you have.

When I seen the job posting  that fit me, I emailed ***** and asked for her assistance. Her manager called me and informed me she was out for the day and I said ok, call the next day and was informed she was still out, so I emailed stating I'm going to go ahead and modify my resume and cover letter with LinkedIn resources and ******* ********** success coach and submit it to ***, that I'm not waiting on her and lose this opportunity. By the time ***** got back with me, I had submitted my resume and got an interview the following Thursday.

She did not reviewed my resume and cover letter and sent them back to me like she is stating. She also know I didn't use any of her so called tools to get this position. ***** just wanted to push me along with her **** to say now that she helped me and I've been in the program for this amount of time. She probably have help some people but her little recording was not helpful to me and what I was trying to do at all.

I also ask her why she was answering students questions that they had to email her on a Tuesday at 2pm when people work? To me that's a **** all day. I tried to find a number for this school so I could personally talk to someone but couldn't.  She didn't help me and she know she didn't, no matter what she say, and I'm not going to stop until I get my money back. I don't want to work with her of have anything else to do with the job search school. I found a job and I feel good about myself for achieving this on my own.

    Sincerely,

    Business Response

    Date: 06/12/2023

This will be my last answer to this complaint due to all of ******** *******’s threats to my business. We have also been over all of this with ******** in emails.

At the time that she first asked for a refund, she was not eligible due to our terms of service. She was shown these terms of service PRIOR to purchase as she was asked to check a box on the order form that stated that she had read and understood the terms.

******** misled my assistant ****** and I with her education. ******** told us in an email dated 3/30/23, “I'm a tech changing my whole career into business administration healthcare services and now business administration HR management.” On April 2, ******** states, “ I have leadership skills in telling techs their caseloads and helping if needed, ordering supplies for specialty cases, and calling rep's in that's needed for cases with instrumentation… This process is hard for me because I have the skills and the education, I just don't have 2 or 3 years of management experience. I am a new administrative graduate but have years or medical experience that the job requires, the positive thing about being a new graduate looking for a new role in management is that the hiring manager can mold me into the best advocate for the company by supporting all the needs and goals of the group.”

We understood that to mean that she had current new education in HR Management. Thus, we told her to put the term “HR Management” into her LinkedIn headline. As a note, you have to put the job you are looking for into the headline on LinkedIn in order to be found for such positions. She later tried to claim that we told her to “lie” because she did not have management experience. At no time did we ever tell her to lie and say that she had the said experience, but we were told she had the education.  We advised her to put that term into her headline so she could be found by sourcing recruiters for those types of positions. It was understood that she would be looking for an entry level position in HR management.

When clients get started with us, if they are not clear on the position or role they are looking for, we provide a “Career Clarity” module in our “Getting Started” Section. They are asked to go through that if they are making a career change or are undecided on roles. ******** led us to believe that she was going down the route of wanting to become an HR Manager. In our program you get one resume review and one LinkedIn profile critique.  We ended up actually writing multiple complete resumes for ******** because she kept changing her mind on the direction she wanted to go. We helped her with questions or completed resumes on HR Management, Performance Improvement Manager, Employee Relations Manager, 2 or more Talent Acquisition Roles, Assistant Director Supply Chain Surgical Services and she then mentioned she was interested in government jobs. She was just jumping all over the place with no real strategy and that is not how our program was designed.

She was given more personalized help than other clients receive. She also expected us to be at her beck and call and got upset if we didn’t do the work for her in a very short time frame. That is not how we operate. Once our clients submit for complete reviews, we ask that they allow 5 to 7 business days.

Here is a perfect example of her unreasonable demands: ”When I seen the job posting  that fit me, I emailed ***** and asked for her assistance. Her manager called me and informed me she was out for the day and I said ok, call the next day and was informed she was still out, so I emailed stating I'm going to go ahead and modify my resume and cover letter with LinkedIn resources and ******* University success coach and submit it to HCA, that I'm not waiting on her and lose this opportunity.”

She also states, ”I also ask her why she was answering students questions that they had to email her on a Tuesday at 2pm when people work?”  ******** is complaining that our training classes are at 2PM ET on Tuesdays. The training classes are actually held on Tuesday at 1 PM ET and 7 PM ET. Our question and answer session is Wednesday at 2 PM. If you can't make it, you can email your questions in and ask that we respond by email or that we answer them on the live call and you can review the live call at a later time. All of the materials are accessible whether a client has a current job or not.

Lastly, as I said in my last reply, ******** refused to put the time and work in to follow the program which builds upon itself each week. She just cherry picked what she felt like doing and jumped from job application to job application all the while demanding things be done for her on a whim. We spent a great deal of time on personalizing resumes, etc. and she received all that we promised in the membership area and in personalized requests. She is not due a refund.

******** needs to understand that we never guaranteed her a position and are very clear about that prior to purchase. She went through the course (but would not follow the steps) and she got more personalized work than was promised. That is not free. She utilized the program and our help, used it for 3 months and still has access to it. We will not be granting a refund and nor should she expect one. She would be much better served if she focused on herself and her future rather than continuing to harass us.

I am rejecting this response because ***** is telling not telling the truth. She has not wrote one resume for me and the jobs that I told her about was job I have applied for before this school. That's why I thought she could help because I just graduated college with bachelors degree in business administration and continuing my education with my MBA. I never told her or manager I had experience in HR management and ***** knows it, she's not just making up things, I guess in the ******** business you get good at it. I have everyone of my emails with ***** and not one of them is a resume, she was trying to throw little details of resume experience at me but never completed one resume or cover letter, and all the things she said she has taught  me, is not at all true. I found my job without any of her assistance and I'm glad I did it on my own, Good things do come to good honest people, I might not get my money back, and don't get me wrong I'm not stopping, until I tell the world that If they see this school or ***** name on any thing to run.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this business, please let the business know that you contacted BBB for a BBB Business Profile.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
