Walker and Funk remodeled our house starting in July of 2023 and finished October 2023. It was a whole house remodel including taking out 3 walls, removing popcorn ceiling, replacing doors and trim, building kitchen cabinets, and laying new flooring throughout the house. The process took longer than expected and at the end, Walker and **** said we owed them much more than we had agreed upon. They would never provide a contract with costs so I was going off of texts they had sent. They tried to charge us hourly for labor even though all job quotes had been based on the project. For example, we bought the flooring, they said they would lay it for $5,400. Then they tried to bill us the $5,400 plus an hourly charge. The 2 workers who did a majority of the work would be at our house 2-3 hours a day, and they would say they worked 8 hours. At the end of the project we were happy with the look of the house overall. There was some trim and finishing things left undone, but we settled on a final payment and they left. We moved back in the house and within 2 weeks a cabinet door fell off. Over the next few months 4 more cabinet doors fell off with several others getting really loose. We recently hired a new contractor to put new hinges on all the cabinets. The drawers are also all starting to break. The flooring is bubbling up in several places. We had a flooring person come give us an estimate to fix it. He walked around the house and found areas where the flooring was not laid properly is already starting to raise up. We do not want Walker and Funk back in our house, but would like them to pay for us to fix the work they did incorrectly. $2300 for replacing all the hardware in the kitchen and bathroom so that the cabinet doors and drawers will work and $2500 to have the flooring pulled up and relayed.

******************* and ***** Walker owners of

    Walker and Funk Properties LLC.

In response to the complaint to *******************. Let it be known first that Walker and Funk Properties has been desolved as of Jan 2024 because of health issues of ***** Walker. All we can say about the complaint is that when we left the job completed she was happy with it. It is true we had a dispute over the final payment of the job but came to an agreement and left not on good terms.
we were never contacted about any trouble she was having with her cabinet doors or any other problems. This is the first we have heard of it. We dont have any warranty on the work we do but have always went back and fixed problems if they came up, which was rarely.
as far as the hardware problem. We have used that hardware for 20 years and have had no problems that Im aware of ever. The cabinets we built were made of Knotty pine which is a soft wood which I explained to her. Screws that are put in that wood can work there way out under use. We used the screws that were sent with them to install the doors. Weve done several cabinet jobs using that wood and have had no complaints.
as far as the wood floor goes. I used ******** construction to install. They have done several floors for us. Again with no problems. The floor is a floating floor that snaps together. I dont know how it could get bubbles in it.
As far as the guys not working but two or three hours a day. All I can say is that I charged *** exactly what they charged me. I was not there everyday with them. I had my prostate removed and other issues I was dealing with. But I trust the workers because they have never lied to me before. Ive known him for probably twenty years.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: Explaining it away does nothing to fix the problems we are having with the cabinets and flooring.  It doesn't matter that you've done other cabinets like ours. The fact is, they are not holding up. ***** was sick during part of the remodel and I know he normally did the cabinet work, so maybe it was not done like it should have been. The drawers and pull outs also need replaced, because they are breaking and the drawers and pull outs will not open and close like they are supposed to. The person I had come fix them said that the hardware used on the drawers was just the cheapest ******* sells.

That the flooring is bubbling is the wrong term, so sorry about that. It is buckling where there was not enough space left at the edges for it to expand and contract. The buckling is causing it to rise up in several spots which is causing the floor to chip as it is walked on. It is really hard to show the rise in a picture. The flooring professional said it would all have to be relaid in order to fix the broken pieces and that not fixing it would just lead to more flooring getting damaged as the floor floats. We spent a lot of money buying good quality flooring that would last and the fact that it is breaking due to improper installation is very frustrating.

I realize since you are not in business anymore a negative BBB rating does not matter, but I did not want other customers to sign up for work with you and be disappointed like we have been. That is why I filed the complaint. I didn't want to, but as more stuff went wrong, I felt it necessary.
    Sincerely,

At this point, I dont believe there is anything we could say or do that would make this customer happy. Therefore, I see no point in responding any further to this customer. Other than that Im deeply disturbed by what has happened and that Ive never bought cheap hardware from ******* in my life. As far as the floor goes, it seemed to me to have been played properly.

    Thank you

    ***** Walker.
