I was sold a termite contract where it listed that i had to pay a $750 payment then $39 monthly. I was shocked to find my payments were for $144. I called and asked about this and they tell me its not listed on the contract but thats what you have to pay. I was also just made aware once i started complaining that they can come anytime i want for them to spray. Very misleading company. They will tell you nothing if you dont ask. Also very rude over the phone. Basically told me to **** it up.

Attached is a transcription of our confirmation call on 5/7/2024. I can provide the mp3 file on request since the system won't accept it. Outlined in the transcription is the customers' custom payment plan where the $2284 installation cost listed in the agreement is spread out over the first year. With the $700 down payment, that brings the monthly total to $144 for 11 months, dropping to $39 after the first year. All of this information was told to the customer at the point of sale, and confirmed by the customer at the point of sale. Please let me know if there is any more information you need from our end!

A door to door sales individual stopped by my house on May 4th on multiple occasions. The individual first knocked on the door and rang the doorbell at 5:20pm, my wife answered the door and politely said, we're not interested in signing up for the pest control service, he did not honor my wife's request and continued talking until my wife shut the door. The individual left the property. The individual returned at 7:12pm, knocked on the door and rang the doorbell. Since we saw it's the same individual who stopped by earlier that day, we did not answer the door. One minute later, at 7:13pm, individually very loudly knocked on the door and rang the doorbell, scaring my 3 yr old. I answered the door and asked the individual to leave. He did not leave. I asked the individual to identify himself with a name and the company he worked for. The individual provided me first name but never provided his last name or the company he worked for. I asked him multiple times to give me his full name and the company name, at this point the individual said he is an individual contractor, working for himself. As he walked off my property, he mumbled a few things that made me feel unsafe for my family's safety. Once he stepped off my property, he stood on the road and stared at my house and at me (smiling) for more than ***** seconds. The individual waited, stared at me smiling, did not leave until I closed the door.I had to reach out to my neighbors to find the name of the company. After a few restless nights, I feel it's best to report this incident to the local police department, as I do not feel safe in my own house. In order to report the incident, I want this individual's full name. However, I am getting a run around from the company and can't get hold of anyone to identify the individual. I called the company yesterday, spoke with ******* and reported the incident over the phone. I hope they honor my request to provide me the full name of this individual.

We looked into the complaint, and we found the picture of the salesman isn't one of our employees, we also do not have a ******* at our branch. I talked to the customer he is in **, ******* which is not affiliated with ** in any way. I did let the customer know I was going to send an email to that branch so they can see but it wasn't **, we are in **********. Customer is good with that.

Ants are way worse than before we had SEVERAL treatments by Moxie. We are going to spend hundreds of dollars and hours laying our own bug killer. It almost seems based off my experience and the experience of others that they are intentionally trying to ATTRACT bugs/ants. On top of it the sales people were extremely pushy. Had to tell the "supervisor" three times I wanted to cancel my services. After the third time she tried to guilt me into keeping my service and not acknowledging me saying "no" she told me she would be placing me on a 5 minute hold to continue to review my account to work out a deal. I had already made it clear three times I did not wish to continue service! Her refusal to acknowledge and listen to me sealed the deal for my cancellation, my refusal to recommend this company, and the reason I feel strongly it is a corrupt business that everyone should avoid.

For customer ************************* we closed her account on 4/13/23 and waved her early cancelation repayment. We never charged it so we weren't able to refund it, however the account is closed and we communicated this with the customer. We went ahead and refunded her last treatment as a sign of good faith.

Moxie came to my home and performed 3 services, after the first service i noticed for the first time a mouse in my house that i was able to get rid of (without moxies help) and i noticed i was getting more ants than ever before in my yard. So i asked moxie to come and they sprayed again, to which i noticed my yard getting WORSE again. Moxie comes out again, final service. This time same thing, i have paid in full up until that point no issues. I call moxie again and tell them i want to swap services because their service wasn't working for me. Then they tell me I'm being charged a early termination of a 1 year contract a fee that was 150$ and if i had just gotten 1 more service with them would've instead only cost me 100$? Business is shady i refuse to pay this 150$ they are trying to charge 1.5% on top of that 150$ every month if i don't pay it too. Absolutely not i will not be forced into paying for a terrible service. I swapped companies and within the VERY FIRST SERVICE of the other company I've noticed absolutely no issues. I called moxie to dispute these charges 2 months ago, at that point i told them the same thing quit contacting me, your service did not work. Please show me in the service agreement where it said Moxie can pretend to spray my yard with some magical spray that is apparently useless, and never actually help me get my yards pest problem under control. I bet it doesn't say that. Do not contact me again. Do not expect me to ever pay this 150$ For any consumer thinking of buying them. These guys are some grade car salesman they make their product sound great then leave you hanging when they do nothing for you. Then try to charge you for something THEY DIDN'T DO AND HAD BEEN PAID IN FULL UP UNTIL THAT POINT.

The customer is ******************* and it was her spouse ***** that called in. He didnt ever tell us he had any bug issues until he wanted to cancel the account. The account manager was asking why he wanted to cancel and then he got mad and said we never got rid of his bugs, we offered a few solutions and customer didnt want them. When the early canceling repayment was brought up he just got upset and hung up, in an effort to make the customer happy the account supervisor reached out and talked over everything. We addressed his concerns and waved the $150 early cancel repayment. customer was satisfied with this solution.

When we bought our home in 2020 we were having issues with spiders. Moxie Pest Control came by in May of 2021 with a door to door salesman. We were told we had termite damage on our property and presented with an opportunity to mitigate the issue. Moxie had us sign a contract and we were under the impression the contract was for one year and told the charges would be about $1000 for a year service. We were not informed the contract was for 2 years and we would be unable to get out of it. My husband and I sold our home this month and were wanting to terminate our agreement due to us not living in the dwelling any longer, allowing the buyer to use their own company if they wish. **** told us that we would have to pay $900 fee out of pocket for canceling our service due to this being a two year contract. We told them we were unaware that it was binding for two years. We asked if there were no rules that if we (the customer) moved we could relinquish and they told us no. We feel Moxy has been predatory and not forthcoming with their customer service information when presenting it in person versus what the contract states. I would never recommend Moxy to anyone.

Comment added by BBB staff member PNN.

I was looking through her account with us and it does look like on May 19, 2021, we did a welcome call with *****. This goes over the initial billing, the monthly billing, the removal, and the early cancellation fee. At the time of the termite inspection, they did sign a service agreement going over all of that as well. Section 2 states, "Unless otherwise stated, this agreement shall be for an initial period of two (2) years and thereafter shall renew itself annually unless either party cancels this agreement by giving thirty (30) days written notice before any expiration date." Also, section 14 subsection A states, "Your Cancellation. You may cancel this Contract by notifying us. Your notice is effective on the day we receive it. You will still be responsible for payment of all outstanding balances accrued through that effective date. In addition to any fees and charges incurred under this Contract. If you cancel this Contract before the end of your term, you may be subject to an early cancellation fee."

On August 1st, ***** called in stating they are thinking about selling the home and possibly moving into an apartment. At that time he was transferred to our account manager ******, she explained the service agreement to ***** and let him know that they were still in the service agreement and explained the early cancellation fee. ***** said that he would keep ********* for the time being.

On August 4th, ******* called in for copies of their service agreements for ********* and Quarterly Maintenance, our office expert Bayly sent those via email to ***********************.

On August 23rd, ***** called in and talked to our account manager **** about closing the account and paying the remaining balance for the ********* stations.

I have attached the service agreement for the Hall's ********* stations.

When talking to both account managers and reading the notes it looks like ***** and ******* were not communicating with each other on the matter and there was a lot of confusion.

Around 8:45 PM Tuesday 11/17/2022 a man knocked at our door and offered us a $289.00 discount for spraying for ants inside and around our house. He told me they were the top rated company in *****. That amount would cover everything for a treatment. I was not interested. He then said he could knock $190.00 off of the price to do the entire yards front and back as well as inside the house. I agreed. He then proceeded to explain after that agreement that he would then return every three months for $139;00 each time to redo the treatment. I then told him I was no longer interested. In response he told me he would drop the future visits to $119/00. I then agreed we would try it.After that he said the first treatment would be tomorrow, June 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM and asked for a signature and payment. I signed but told him we will pay when the work is done. The he said the next "quarterly visit would be in 30 days on or about July 30 and we would pay $119.00 then. For him I suppose a second quarterly service can come after only 30 days. I was not happy. He then contradicted his offer stating the first service is only for treating the inside of the house and that the second "quarterly" service at $119.00 (30 days later) would treat the outside. Finally he said that with this special deal any cancellation of the service would require I pay a cancellation fee of $190. He already had my signature and I did not want a confrontation, so I let him walk away. The complaints shown on the BBB site are similar to complaints we and other neighbors have had with salesmen casing our neighborhood. Virtually every customer described being misled the same way; all said bug problems remained and service guarantees were not honored. Apparently I agreed to a confidence scam. I preferred not to have a confrontation; I have serious blood pressure issues. Hopefully can avoid police involvement.

Account ******* was sold on 6/28/22 no money was ever charged, as no service was ever completed, we went over all the fees and what to expect for the first two treatments all on a recorded welcome call that the customer agreed to the plan on 6/28/22 we also sent an email saying the same thing so the customer is in full understanding and then after we went over all of that, the customer signed the service agreement and emailed it back. Customer called in on 6/29/22 and asked to cancel the account. Then the account was closed, no service has ever been rendered and no invoice was ever charged.

We were first time home buyers and were contacted right after we bought our first home...we were pressured heavily into purchasing moxie when they came by several times.. we needed pest control so decided to move forward with them and have been very unhappy since first service...I think we've had more issues than before we hired them..I have called in multiple times on not being satisfied and still seeing spiders, ants and termites and they have done a fee re services and still no results..they will not let us get out of this contract for this useless service and that makes it where we can't even hire a good pest control that's going to treat the problem that could destroy our home..I do not trust that they are even spraying anything more than water. We were absolutely scammed!! I have tried everything to get out of this contract and I want out it is nor right or fair to continue to be stuck with a company who has done nothing for us since day one..zero results and terrible service!

Customer called on June 11th of 2022 to cancel her service agreement with Sentricon and General Pest Control. The service agreement is for two years or 24 payments since we paid for the sentricon stations in full and the customer pays us back. Customer was offered different plans the one she chose was the cheaper option of having it bundled with general pest control. That make both service agreement 2 years, we went over this in a recorded welcome call and in the two service agreement documents we sent to her that she signed. Customer has only completed 6 months. Since we want to end on a good note and not have any complaints we gave the customer a call and resolved the issue with her. We have closed her general pest control, we offered to close her Sentricon stations as well the customer requested to keep that.

in March 2021 I received a notice that 'my free termite assessment' will be in the next 2 days. I hadn't subscribed or heard of that before. The day of the assessment, the representative for Moxie told me I had signs of termites and I needed to take action immediately. I panicked and accepted the installation of the termite baits. It costed $1600 to install. I had a later assessment by a third party and my 4yr old house did not have any termites. I called Moxie repeatedly about cancelling the service and I scheduled it to be cancelled before the renewal period of March 2022. March 2022 comes along and they billed me for the termite renewal. I called 3 times before finally my case manager removed the ****. They were supposed to send a tech to remove the baits. That happened 2 weeks afterwards, the tech came and took less than half the baits and left the holes in my yard. I have called Moxie repeatedly about coming to finish removing the rest of the baits or filling the holes, since its a trip hazard, and they haven't done so.

We are going to get these complaints addressed by sending our Service Manager to fill the holes. Though our contract states that we are not required to do so. I have attached a copy of the service agreement from ***********************. We have ***** scheduled for Tuesday the 3rd to have our Service Manager go out and find the rest of the stations and fill the holes.

On November 12, 2020, a representative of Moxie Pest Control knocked on my elderly father's door and convinced him to sign a 2-year pest control contract for increased services by scaring him about termites. He had already been paying Moxie $119 per quarter for some time before he was told that he needed this expanded service to stop termite damage. He was 92 years old at the time, and he gets confused very easily and has a hard time hearing. I hold a power of attorney for him so that I can help him with his financial and health matters. As a WWII veteran, he was tested and issued hearing aids by the VA because of his difficulty in understanding what people say to him. And he just isn't as able to process information as he was when he was younger. He had no idea what he was signing. He was charged $599 the next day and has been paying $99 per month for a full year on this agreement. When we became aware of this recently, my husband contacted Moxie and asked to cancel the service. At that time, I had no idea that there was a written contract, or any of the details other than he was paying monthly and wanted to end it. The Moxie representative on the phone was a young lady who told my husband that it would be cancelled, that there would be no further charges and that they would come out and retrieve their termite bait stations. We were satisfied with that and would have quietly gone away after my father had paid $952 in quarterly payments for two years and then the $599 initial fee and $999 more in monthly fees for the past year. But today a representative called and stated that he had been out with covid and was just now reading the notes on the call and wanted to let us know that if we cancel now, we'll owe another $700+ dollars and they will place it for collections.

On 6/23/2021 a door-to-door solicitor came to my house with Moxie Pest Control offering discounted services in the area. Had a great, but pushy sales pitch. Said all my neighbors had already signed up with him and many are current customers. Great, tell me more. Quoted me an INSANE price, but said oh I'll knock this off and throw this in for free. Said it was going to be $179 per qtr. Did the math...not much off from my current monthly rate with the pest control service I was using. So I signed up. It has been a nightmare. I don't know how it is possible but I have MORE pests and problems than I did before. I have had "warranty" services and still no change. I have paid this company a lot of money with zero result. No one answers the phone, it took WEEKS to get a call back only to tell me I'm in a service contract and we will waive the fee. That is unacceptable. I am not paying for nothing. I would like a full or partial refund and out of the contract ASAP.
