This is an issue I am having with a roofing company. There was a light storm in August. A little bit of hail, probably less than 5 minutes of it. Someone knocks on my door a few weeks later and they ask to see if they can check out my roof for damage. I seriously doubt there is damage, but I don't see the harm in them checking. Someone does a check on the roof the next day, and sure enough there is tons of damage, after 5 minutes of hail, and they need to replace the entire roof. They bring out my insurance company and they come to the conclusion that it will be $6554.59. The 1st priority representative tells me they will do the amount of work for what my insurance company quoted, and I would just pay the deductible which is $4800. I obviously agreed to this, signed the contract for the price the insurance company gave us. A few days later the representative texted me saying that he forgot to add on a line item, "I left off line number 4. Obviously we are doing it like we talked about, I just forgot to put it on there.", and wanted to make sure it was fine that we put it on there. There are no prices on the line items, and I only agreed to and signed for the price, so I assume its just what we originally agreed to and what the insurance company told us. No extra price was given on this supposed line item. So the workers do the work, halfway through the representative comes in and tells me it is going to cost an extra 200-250$ for extra boards, which I think is strange, but I felt really pressured to agree to it considering they tore my roof off and already did half of the work, so I said that it was okay. So I have one final payment on the roof and I am fully expecting to pay an extra 200-250$, which I am reluctantly willing to pay. To my surprise they add an extra 1000$ on the bill. They said they did not calculate the price right and that I needed to pay the difference, which is way more than the already high deductible I was paying.
