I began enrollment with the Andrews School in March 2020 and graduated in July 2021. When I first started, I was very nervous and there were many times in the course of the program where I felt completely lost. But I took a step back and remembered that I was learning something entirely new to me. I had absolutely no medical experience when I started the program. I had never heard of a "certified medical coder". I also was able to speak one-on-one with Ms. ******* a very patient lady who listened to all of my questions and fears, calmed me down and reassured me many times. A lot of times I knew the answers, I was just second-guessing myself. The Andrews School doesn't just teach you how to pass a multiple-choice exam. They teach you everything you need to know to confidently code cases. They provide books on medical terminology, physiology, pharmacology and pathophysiology. They also provide books about medical billing and reimbursement since that will be part of the job. They provide all coding books that are necessary for the course for outpatient and inpatient procedural coding. Yes, they are completely different than other schools. They provide workbooks containing examples of real-world cases to get you prepared for real world coding. For each Module you are assigned an instructor who is there to help you navigate the questions and to help you find the correct answer. They won't give you the answers, but they will guide you in the right direction. There were many times where I was completely stuck on a question, and all I had to do was reach out to my instructor and she was there for me. No matter how dumb my questions might have been. Also, to help you out, they do Extra Credit exercises for points that go towards an exam grade. You would code the injuries or conditions in a movie and submit that for extra credit. My favorite was Home Alone 2. I highly recommend the Andrews School to anyone who is considering starting a job in the Medical Coding field.
