    As a medical social worker in the ********, when my dad needed a caregiver I recommended Home Instead as they have a good reputation at the branch close to where I work. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Home Insteads ********* branch (my dad resides in ********, but we were connected to the Beaverton branch). Our familys experience with them over 3 days was unimpressive, unprofessional, and, honestly, a joke. We had 3 different caregivers over 3 days and it was clear they were struggling with staffing reporting to us they had many future unfilled shifts. While my dads caregiver on the first day was kind and professional, the other 2 were not and we were less than comfortable or assured in their abilities. We paid them to do nothing. Examples of issues include talking non stop, telling us this was their first client and prior experience was driving for Amazon, sharing with us their personal issues on the first day, and have extremely minimal training on how to provide care, such as a sponge bath (wiped under my dads arms and then used same cloth to wipe his face). When my mother, who is a nurse provided feedback, the case manager and manager were extremely apologetic and said the owner would be contacting us. The owner then called my mom and said she was hostile and threatening- she was not, she was understandably upset. He was very condescending and gaslighting us to save his business rather than provide customer service and recognize the need for improvement. We were requesting a discount or refund given 3 days/12 hours total cost $1400 (!!!) to which the owner promised a call back and we never got one- instead just charged my dads credit card. We understand that finding the right caregiver takes time, not everyone is going to be a great fit, and do not expect perfection, but that was not this situation. When someone is sick, needs care and reassurance, this was a very disheartening experience. Thankfully, we found much better caregivers elsewhere.
