On April 26, ****, I paid $145 to ******* Automotive and Diesel to perform a pre-purchase inspection of a 2012 **** Expedition that I was considering buying. I live in the ****** area and the seller was about 2 hours away from me. I told the person at ******* that I needed the vehicle to tow a large trailer, that I hadn't seen the vehicle in person, and that I was counting on his information to make a purchase decision.*****'s identified three minor issues: "Recommend to replace belt and service engine, left rear turn signal not working." I was told that the Expedition was in very good condition. Based on that information, I purchased the vehicle for the seller's asking price. If I had learned that any expensive repairs were needed, I would have either declined to purchase the vehicle or attempted to negotiate the price. After the purchase, I made an appointment with my mechanic to have the recommended service performed and to have them look it over. My mechanic, ********* Automotive, identified about $5,000 in additional needed service. The most expensive issue was that the shocks/struts were original to the vehicle (which had over ******* miles on it) and were completely worn out. This is approximately a $2,000 repair, and since I need the vehicle for towing, it's important. They also found a power steering leak and several other issues with fluid quality.I called ******* to ask what they cover in their pre-purchase inspections and was told that they do look at the suspension and that they must have missed that it needed repair. I also think they should have found other issues, especially the fluid leak. I requested that they resolve this by performing the work at a discount and they declined. I asked if they would refund the inspection cost. They said they had a customer in the office and they'd call right back. They didn't call back.I believe they didn't adequately perform the inspection, and as a result I am out thousands of dollars.
