Interpath Laboratory had a sneaky "waiver" in the event my insurance denied a medical vitamin D test my doctor *****ed. Why would my doctor ***** a test for me to pay for? Interpath said it was "not medically necessary". I feel Interpath made me sign a sneaky waiver saying I would pay for the test as a way to make money off unsuspecting patients. I had no idea that is what I was signing. My vitamin D test came back as deficient and I am now on RX grade Vitamin D supplements. My insurance told Interpath they are contractually obligated to write it off but they are still billing me due to their sneaky waiver. How absolutely unethical!Initial Complaint

11/20/2023 Laboratory work. My dr sent a specific diagnosis code to interpath laboratory, they changed the code in their system and my medical insurance denied payment. I called my dr ****** and the lab several times over last 4 months to get them to correct their billing. Dr ****** had liason work with the lab and the lab still wanted chart notes (that they recieved the first time). Lab sent me to collecions even though I have called muliple times and so has my dr ******. I can't fix this the lab has to use the codes the dr ****** sent over.Business Response

As a lab we can only bill out with the diagnosis codes provided to us as we advised this patient. We received codes that the patients insurance deemed non-supported not the lab. The patients insurance denied the charge and advised they are responsible for everything. The patient disagreed and was advised how we can rebill. We need new codes if available and we need chart notes. Patient contacted the clinic and they did not provide codes originally. We also attempted to help the patient by calling their **************. We left in total 3 voice mail for their doctor and never received a response. All of this was relayed to the patient. Months later after 2 more months of no contact from the patient or the ************** the balance was auto turned to collections. Our records prove this patient did not call us during this time as our system records all incoming and outgoing calls. After the balance was turned to collections the client finally provided us new codes but failed to provide us chart notes. Again the patients insurance required new codes and chart notes. We as the lab do not have chart notes as these pertain to the patients office visit not lab services. This is not something we ever receive unless we need to rebill and the ************** provides that. The patient saying we already had this is false and no one relayed this to the patient. Once codes were received we rebilled these out and insurance processed the claim. We do not code we do not come up with new codes and we do not determine what the patients responsible amount is their doctor provides codes and their insurance deems what they owe. All of this was relayed to the patient but they chose to file a complaint anyways knowing very well their ************** was ignoring their voice mails as well and they very well knew that it was their insurance that was saying they were responsible for the balance. Patient was incredibly rude to staff and did not want to accept that we do not code and we did not deny her claim but rather simply relayed the information her insurance advised her of as well.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: their information is inaccurate. The doctors ****** did respond and leave information. The dr's ****** did have to get their liason involved as the company refused to change the codes. The codes were incorrect on the first bill. The lab was incredibly rude, would not take any ownership or accountability. They said they would call and then I never heard anything until it was turned over for collections. My dr's ****** has record of the many, many attempts they made to call this ******.
Sincerely,

I had the test on 3/9/2023.the lab staff made mistakes by file the claim to insurance with wrong patient's information. After all the correction and refill the claim. Insurance denied the claim. With the reason is the time limit to file is expired. So the lab sending the bill with amount:$274.93.(big difference amount it have in contract with insurance. That is totally not my fault. I feel innocent if it make me pay the charges just because someone else's made mistakes. So please help me to solve the problems. Your sincerest.Initial Complaint

On March 9, 2023, I went to the Interpath Laboratory in ********, ********** to get my blood drawn for my 6-month visit with ********************************* of ****** *************** which they did because they had the order from Dr. **** to do so. When I went to my appointment with Dr. **** later that month, he examined the lab results and was not happy when he found that they had done the wrong tests on my blood samples. He told me not to pay the lab bill because they did the wrong test, and he also stated that he would put it in my chart notes that the lab did the wrong test and patient should not have to pay for it.Then I received a bill from Interpath Laboratory in April 2023 stating that I owed them $53.68 for a procedure on March 9, 2023. I called Interpath to find out why I was being charged for their mistake, and the lady I was talking with on the phone from the billing department was not only rude, but she was very disrepectful and not receptive to my explanation. When I told her that I was going to turn them into the BBB, she said, "so". She informed me that I was responsible for the bill and that I had better pay it.Business Response

We received confirmation from the providers office that only 2 tests were ran incorrectly as the registered user checked the wrong boxes. When we were advised by the providers office we immediately adjusted off those 2 tests only. The remaining charges were still valid and results provided to the ********** as confirmed by them. Our records show that we advised the patient of this on 5/5/2023 and explained that we adjusted off and showed where on the statement that was done. We never billed for the full amount and only billed for tests actually ordered and performed. If there are other tests that should have been written off we have not been advised by the ********** of any further issues with testing.Customer Answer

Paid an outstanding bill with this company as my insurance company denied the test. I filed an appeal with my insurance company (United Healthcare) and they paid the bill. Requested a refund from this company, copy of the email attached, and as of this date have not received the refund.Business Response
Date: 12/27/2023
Advised that refunds are not generated until there is no balance owing in the account. Because more services were being rendered we could not refund as there was the potential for near future responsible amount. Once it was confirmed that there were no other responsible amounts a refund was issued within 30 days. If you have not yet received a refund please contact us.
Thank you

My insurance was not accurately billed. Their log in drop down options did not have a spot to type it in correctly. I called and left messages and emailed to try and get it resolved. I have not heard back from them so I can properly have my insurance invoiced.Business Response

We billed out with the insurance information we were provided. Once we received the updated insurance we billed them and the insurance has since responded back. A refund has been created for a payment back to the patient.Initial Complaint

I called to verify that lab orders from my doctor were still (time) valid. When calling the Labs phone number I got a "general" operator. I told what I needed to verify and her questions began. They quickly went to questions about work, companies, and such. When I asked what the relevance of these questions were to what I needed, her response was that the COMPANY REQUIRED THE INFORMATION. I then told her that I would take my business elsewhere because of the questions not being relevant. NEVER have I had a medical service ask such questions. EVER. WHY THESE QUESTIONS? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SUCH INFORMATION GATHERING? IF you are thinking of using INTERPATH LABS may I suggest you run the other way!!! Something is very unethical??Business Response

This individual has never received services from us. The questions were related to being able to find a lab order for the person. It helps identify who the services are for. I am not sure why no one explained this but we will be sure to provide training to those on why we need this information.
