The date of service was the end of March 2023. The job we hired ****** for was to get our walk-in cooler on line as it had been rewired by a previous tenant before we moved in. For this he charged us $2,000. The business owner told me that my check bounced, though it had just been held for fraud protection. He then insisted I cancel the check and pay him cash the next day which I did. Though I went to my bank to cancel the check they let it deposit anyway (and refused to resolve the issue). The business owner then immediately spent both the cash and the deposited check ($4,000 combined) and told me he didn't have the money to pay me back because he'd used it to pay his bills. This was in April (it is now August). He eventually paid me half of the $2,000 owed at the end of July. So now there is $1,000 still absconded and he is no longer answering my phone calls. I should also add that when I met him to receive the $1,000 which he did pay, we met at his bank. He asked me how business is, because the job he did was for my store, I told him it's been hard, that unfortunately that missing money has been a big problem for us. He then turned right into my face, and put his belly into mine, and said "be careful, brother, I know Karate." This was in his own bank branch. Apparently he was not embarrassed by any of this, but I was.

While I have been back and forth with this vendor dozens of times since March 2023, today he called me to allege that I owe HIM $1,000. It seems he dug up a letter from his bank dated to March that confirms that one of the two checks I gave him bounced. That's true, he notified me that that occurred and the next day I gave him another check for the amount owed. That check was unfortunately held for fraud check that evening and the next day he insisted i pay him in cash which I was naive enough to do. Well the second check cleared and according to him, those funds immediately were spent paying down his existing balance. Regardless, he called me today to say that when the first check bounced that his bank charged him $2,000 – so he either has some fundamental misunderstanding (suddenly) of how the accounting of this would work, or he's making some last-ditch effort to bamboozle me and turn the tables to try to claim that I owe HIM $1,000. This is in spite of the fact that a couple of months ago he notified me to say he had come up with half of the $2,000 he owed me and to meet him at his bank. He is now coming down here to my store to retrieve the $1,000 he says I owe HIM. I've never been such an awful situation with a local business. This person is bullying me, deceiving me and conning me. Or I should say, trying to. The deceit is pretty overtly transparent so I'm certainly not becoming confused. But I would say that this latest episode would indicate that he has no intention of paying me the money owed and instead is creating some kind of narrative where he does not owe me the money. So I resort to coming back here to update the complaint and will look into what other recourse I might have. Oh and also, he said he'd be putting in a complaint with the BBB about ME! Yikes.
