Was disturbed to receive an email stating that as of 10/31/2024 the Legacy software will be disabled. Is that legal? I purchased the ******* many years ago and it is still going strong. The software came with it. Doesnt that mean I am entitled to use the software for as long as I like? I have had zero interaction with the company for 10+ years. Please dig up the license agreement where it states that the software will be disabled when they feel they need more revenue.Aside from the fact the software is no longer supported and I may very well run into problems with the scanning software not working with different Windows versions, how can it be legal for a company to disable their software simply because they think they are looking out for my own good? Are they a bunch of Democrats? Do they not think I can't take care of myself?It is purely a play to try and get me to sign up for their cloud based product which I have zero interest in. I could never trust a company with my confidential documents with this kind of attitude towards their customers.The Neat Company, Inc Response

We're so sorry for any confusion or frustration our email caused you. The main purpose of our email is to make sure you take action to protect any data you are storing in old Neat Legacy software. You do NOT have to migrate to the Neat Cloud, and we provided you with several FREE options including using our free Neat Scan Utility software that is new and supported. The Neat Legacy software connects with our ************** Whenever you use the Neat Legacy software, it connects to the internet and checks for a valid authentication token. On 10/31/24, we will be performing maintenance that will sever the connection between the Legacy software and our ************** Even after our scheduled maintenance, the Legacy software will continue to function however, you will no longer be able to sync any data to the Neat Cloud. We still highly recommend taking action now to protect your data.For over six years, we have advised users to discontinue using the Legacy software to avoid potential data loss. The software reached its end-of-life status in 2017, which means no updates, patches, or fixes have been released since then. This lack of updates makes the software incompatible with newer technologies and vulnerable to security breaches.Please be aware that by continuing to use the Legacy software, you do so at your own risk and accept full responsibility for the security and integrity of your data. If the software ceases to function, we will not be able to recover any data for ****** protect your data, I strongly recommend exporting your data to PDF files as soon as possible, even if you intend to continue using the software. I've been trying to contact this company because my data that I have been paying monthly for is nowhere to be found and they won't respond to my messages. How do places like this exist? What kind of country do we live in? I pay my taxes to live in a respectable country not a country full of scam companies like this. I demand a refund for the time since I scanned these recipts into the system since I can't get help locating them and since I can't get a response from anyone. For the last few years I have referred my friends to this service because of how easy it is to scan stuff and it load it save it and recognize the feilds. Why don't someone stand behind this nifty program? Help me locate my files is all I'm asking or was. Now I'm asking for a refund for the last couple years that my paid for data storage is not accessible to me. I'm still paying for this service as of right now and I will continue to pay for it while I get an attorney to recover the money that has been spent on nothing whatsover since I can't get any assistance. Strongly advise against purchasing from this company. I utilized their services for my business but encountered a major issue when attempting to cancel. They informed me that I would lose access to all my files unless I paid $50.00 per year for storage. This practice is unacceptable; customers should always have the ability to download their files to an external hard drive. Despite their suggestion to continue the subscription for viewing access, I ultimately decided to cancel. It's not worth the monthly charge to retain my business information without the ability to access it.The Neat Company, Inc Response

Hi Courtney, Sorry for the misunderstanding. You can download your data whenever you need to and we offer steps for how to do this on our help center. After reviewing your recent interaction with us, it seems that you were unable to access your account because it was 3 months past due, therefore the account was in a suspended status. The agent you spoke with did not tell you you had to pay $50/year for storage. He did offer you our $50 NeatVault plan as a saving option since you were using this subscription to store over 10k files in the Neat Cloud. It seems that your interaction with the agent was cut off and he didn't get the opportunity to finish providing you with all your options. Your account has already been canceled per your support interaction, and our agent even waived your past-due balance. You still have over 10k files in the Neat Cloud that are scheduled for deletion per our data retention policy. I have added 7 days of temporary access to your account so you can log in and download all of your files before they are deleted. I used to love NEAT when I was using their scanner and their NEAT Utility software... But they abandoned the functionality of the scanner when Apple came out with Ventura (OS 13.6)... They did cheerfully recommend scanners which they claimed were compatible with NEAT, ('Neat Certified and are supported'), including the Fujitsu line... What they DID NOT mention was that this compatibility was only true for Twain Compatible scanners, which the Fujitsu line IS NOT... So now I'm down $250 and unable to use the NEAT Utility (the window from which you configure, scan and send your documents)... But I am still hopeful, and sign up for a year's NEAT account for $100............. so I can request support... After 2 separate tries to contact them to see if there is a solution, they finally respond.. ( at this point I have fully disclosed that I am a Mac user and what equipment I am trying to integrate). FINALLY... I am promised that there is a solution! NOT... This solution only applies to Windows operators.. "Unfortunately, Print to Neat is only available on Windows,..." with a 3 step work around for Apple users.. and still no use of the NEAT Utilities window. If you are an APPLE user, this is an expensive journey to hell and back. I am in the process of requesting a refund for the $100 membership fee, as they have repeatedly lied and mis-represented their product. If they resist, I shall be back with a plea for assistance... I am sorry about your experience with Neat. After reviewing your response there seems to be a misunderstanding. We have not misrepresented our product.
The Neat website is clear that beyond the certified 3rd party scanners, Neat connects with most TWAIN-compliant scanners. See: ************************************************************************You purchased the Fujitsu S1300i, which is not on any of our lists of certified scanners. While you didn't purchase one of our recommended scanners it's possible the S1300i could still work as the earlier model of that scanner, the S1300 is on our certified 3rd party scanner list. Our Help Center article for the S1300 is clear in the very first paragraph that "The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 is NOT a twain compliant scanner. The scanner will NOT show up in the Neat Scan Utility as a connected scanner. To scan with this scanner, you must use the Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager."

After reviewing your case, it looks like the agent is still in the discovery phase of assisting you and has requested additional information from you about your issue to assist you further, but you haven't given them a chance to.
The issue that you claim you have with Print to Neat has nothing to do with the scanner/scanning functionality in Neat. Our agent did not suggest that Print to Neat would be your solution. Print to Neat is an entirely different feature that is not required for setting up your Fujitsu scanner to scan to Neat. What you need, in order to scan with that model Fujitsu scanner is the ScanSnap Manager. A tool that you can download from Fujitsu directly. Once installed and connected to Neat, you'll initiate scans using the ScanSnap tool and your scans will open for editing and sending in the Neat Scan Utility. Had you continued with support, this would have been the path we would have taken.
You are still within your 30-day refund window so we can provide you with a refund if you prefer, but I highly recommend giving the agent a chance to assist you.Review from Claudette T

I purchased the Neat scanner for $600 while studying at *******. While I have several printers, this scanner was great for just scanning documents quickly and storing them on the computer. I recently updated the PC and with the latest Windows update the scanner software suddenly stopped working. I attempted to resolve the issues and decided to repair and uninstall the software without success. I contacted Neat and had a technical representative work on the problem. He stated the software was obsolete but he would try to repair it. After the Tech had control of my PC for 1.5 hours, he stated he could not remove the software. He stated was a problem with *********’s software. He stated all he could do is sign me up for Neat’s monthly subscription. I explained that after paying $600 I should not need a monthly subscription as I have paid for the right to use the software that came with the product. Next I contacted *********. Their technical support worked to try to resolve the issue but were also unsuccessful. I am asking for the Neat Company to provide resolution to remove their software off my computer, including the drivers so my computer will work as expected. I also, want updated to that works with their scanner or refund the money that was paid. Again, I did rent the Neat scanner and software. I paid money for this product which they now prevent consumers from using but now request people to pay for a monthly service.The Neat Company, Inc Response

Claudette, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It appears you're referring to the old retired Neat Legacy software that came for FREE with a purchased Neat scanner. That software was discontinued in 2015. We have made this known numerous times to our customers and have heavily communicated this on our website. We've also communicated that customers on Legacy Neat versions would start experiencing issues with trying to install/uninstall these versions due to changes Microsoft made in October 2019, when they removed the Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable Packages from their website and made them no longer available for download. Unfortunately, if this is the problem you are having, then there is nothing we can do to assist you with installation/uninstallation as the files necessary for doing so are no longer supported by Microsoft. ******************************************************************************* While you won't be able to use your Neat scanner with the old unsupported software, you CAN continue to use your Neat scanner for FREE using the Neat Scan Utility. I am sorry, but you misunderstood what I stated. It does not work. I cannot scan directly to my computer. If I could, it would be an easy fix as that is all I am trying to do. Please provide instructions on scanning directly to my computer without using your software. I would find it interesting that you sell a scanner and years later delete the software unless someone pays a monthly fee in order to use the equipment. They sell products, abandon their software, discontinue support, and then coercing you - the consumer - to rent access to their cloud service to actually use the product you purchased. Hello and I'm very sorry for any confusion. You do not have to purchase any Neat Cloud services to continue using a Neat scanner you purchased in the past. While Neat has transitioned into focusing on our cloud application and tools for financial management, you can continue to use your Neat scanner for FREE using the Neat Scan Utility. The utility is FREE to download and allows you to scan directly to your computer hard drive. You can download the free scan utility here: https://support.neat.com/downloads/neat-downloads Drivers for the ND-1000, NM-1000, and NC-1000 model series scanners are still available on support.neat.com as well. The only version of Neat that has been retired is the old Neat Legacy software that came for free with a purchased Neat scanner. Neat has not suddenly stopped supporting that software. That version of the software was retired over 8 years ago and has not received updates or enhancements since then. Neat's current products are much more stable, faster, and more secure than the old Legacy software was. In addition, our current products offer several newer features that could not be offered in the old Legacy software including a mobile companion application, a NeatCloud email-in address, transactions streaming, and more! Since the retirement of the Neat Legacy software, our message is and has always been, that any customer who still has the Legacy software can continue to use it as is, however, it is at your own risk as we do not provide any support for these versions. INFINITELY POOR! I've had the NM-1000 for almost 10 years now & you'd think this thing would ever do a clean scan of a receipt? The Neat Company couldn't have put some kind of sliding tray to keep receipts straight & "neat" without having them slide all over the place? The "Neat" Company? Hey Fareed, I'm sorry for any issues you've had with your Neat Scanner. The Neat company stopped manufacturing, selling, and supporting Neat scanners in 2017, but many customers have been able to continue to use their Neat scanners even after all this time. We also still keep updated drivers for the NM-1000 series scanner on our Help Center. Neat scanners did come with a one-year warranty which you could have used to get a replacement, but as of July 2018, all scanners are out of their warranty period. This was never either a warranty or calibration issue! Respectfully, I find it, in fact, somewhat insulting to even suggest to check out The Neat Company’s Help Center for articles on cleaning and calibrating my scanner. I mean, it’s not rocket science! Nor is it rocket science to actually create a mobile scanner with some kind of smaller version of a regular-sized scanner’s sliding tray, as more or less mentioned in my review, to ensure that receipts are properly guided according to the width of how their fed, of which should be more often than not only ever once. Rather than the need to have to waste so much time re-scanning over & over again, then cropping, in order to end up with a straight & actually “neat” looking image, pdf, etc! However, for The Neat Company, I guess it would’ve been when it came to the NM-1000. Which certainly explains having even more of my time wasted writing this review & responding to The Neat Company’s response that has nothing to do with my review! It's just INFINITELY MIND BOGGLING that this product still sold with this defect & I was suckered into buying it even! At least it’s not being sold any longer. A FREE utility that allows you to use your Neat scanner or other TWAIN compliant scanner to scan files as PDFs to your computer hard drive. I am not at all happy with the way Neat has handled the retirement of the stand-alone Neat software version 5.7.1 I do not want any form of cloud-based storage system for my records and want to remain using the local version of the software. It is irrelevant that you changed your format to cloud based and discontinued support as I expect my old system that I paid for to continuing to operate when I have any reason or need to reinstall it. I do NOT expect the software to be disabled in the effort to force the purchase of a subscription-based system. As far as I am concerned this is tantamount to theft. It is one thing to discontinue product support and entirely another to disable the software and deny access to years of accumulated data and documents. I expect Neat to promptly provide a workable solution for the recovery of all of my data and documents from either the primary database or backup file.The Neat Company, Inc Response

Other factors have also led to issues with the Neat Legacy software like Microsoft's decision to discontinue Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 Redistributable Packages, which were required for running the Neat Legacy software. By choosing to continue to use the Neat Legacy software you take full responsibility for your data and take on the risk of losing that data. I wasn't able to pull up any case history for you, however, if you still have access to an old Legacy backup or database files then we can provide a one-time courtesy support session where an agent can attempt to assist you to recover that data from one of these old versions. We can't guarantee that we will be able to recover anything, but it's worth a shot. Hey Robert, I'm sorry for any frustration. I see you opened a chat interaction with us yesterday where you reported issues using a Neat scanner with the Mac Ventura OS system. Unfortunately, current Neat drivers are not compatible with Mac OS Ventura. Drivers cannot be installed on Mac OS Ventura and existing drivers from a previous Mac OS that was upgraded to Ventura will not function properly and will display the message "waiting for scanner" when attempting a scan but no scan will actually occur. Changes in the Ventura OS no longer recognize the USB technology and drivers that the old Neat scanners use. We stopped manufacturing and selling scanners over 5 years ago and while we've been able to support them since then, the Ventura OS has rendered them incompatible. We are investigating a possible solution for this, however, there is only a very slim chance that we might eventually be able to get updated drivers to work with Ventura. At this time, Neat scanners will still work on older Mac OS systems and on Windows 11 devices if you have them and there are many other ways to get items into Neat! 1. Scan and upload images using the Neat mobile app 2. Import image files directly into Neat 3. Email items directly into Neat 4. If available, use a third-party TWAIN compliant scanner with the Neat Scan Utility 5. If possible, use another computer running Windows or a recent Mac OS prior to Ventura You can check our status page for any updates on this issue here: ************************************ Please Note: Neat stopped selling and supporting scanners in 2017.
