Steel Town Properties is withholding $1,342.50 from security deposit from (4) college-age Tenants that occupied property at *** ** **** ******* *********** **. The occupants were *** ******** **** ********* ****** ********* *** ******** *****  The four attended Duquesne University. Tenants leased the property beginning on 6/3/20 and vacated the property on 5/29/22. After their departure, the landlord, Steel Town Properties sent a list of charges to be deducted from Tenant's original $4,950 security deposit. The charges from Steel Town are not justified and include items that the landlord was made aware of and had committed to addressing at the start of the tenancy (kitchen faucet), as well as other charges that were not justified and unreasonable. E.g., a charge for "smoke damage", although the tenants did not smoke, did not light candles, and rarely cooked. Tenants sent documentation from beginning of lease in which Tenants informed Steel Town Properties of numerous issues/deficiencies. The issues related to both condition and cleanliness of rental home (kitchen faucet, basement, cabinets, painting deficiencies, mice, etc.). Steel Town Properties acknowledged the issues, committed to addressing the issues, and subsequently did not fulfill their commitments over the two-year period in which the Tenants occupied the property. To make matters worse, when the Tenants explained that the charges/deductions from security deposit were unwarranted and not fair, Steel Town stated by email that they could not find records of the correspondence from the beginning of tenancy. Generally, Steel Town Properties has been poor at communicating and responding to phone calls, email messages, etc. The Property Manager, Lydia H*****, said that she manages 1,600 properties and that she cannot keep track of all correspondence. Not, pictures attached of 2020 correspondence and the issues with the property at the beginning of the lease. Additional documentation is available...

Per our conversation yesterday, the business – Steel Town Properties – has agreed to return the security deposit money, less a cleaning fee.  The Tenants are satisfied and appreciate this compromise.  Please close this matter.

    Thank you for your assistance.
