On 5/31/22 Madewell poured a patio in our backyard. Everything looked fine the day of the pour. The problems started showing up the next day. Many holes in the concrete's surface started to sink in. I reported the problem to Madewell, and they sent the concrete supplier (***) out to take a look at it to determine if there was a problem with the concrete itself. He said Madewell did not "flush the slurry in the pump hose and that made it into the patio." Apparently this "slurry" is a greasy slime that coats the pump tube and should be flushed before pouring concrete into the finished area. After that inspection, Madewell sent someone out to repair the holes. I asked if the repairs would be covered under our warranty and if the repairs would not be noticeable. Reid (Madewell) responded "That will be correct on both." (see screenshot of conversation)Business Response

I just received an email on Tuesday saying that the company addressed the issue within the complaint? What did they address? All the note said was ‘Hello, our regional manager has reached out to learn more.’ I didn’t even receive a notification about this message. And actually, nobody responded to me until Tuesday as well. I have attached that message. In case you can’t open this file type, all the email said was “Myron, This claim just got forwarded to me. I am here to help you. Can you please provide me with a brief summary of what is going on and provide a few pictures as well?” I have sent them pictures and will respond tomorrow, but until Tuesday I hadn’t received any notifications.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
I'm not sure if I am supposed to accept or reject this, but I had an action required on the web portal to respond to the last correspondence. Currently I am still waiting on Madewell to come out and look at the concrete. There has been no resolution to the problem, so I am rejecting this simply because I don't want the complaint to be closed. The last I heard from Madewell was on 9/15/22 when they asked for my address. Apparently there should be someone coming to look at it in the future, but I don't know when that is.

I was schedule on Jul 11 2022 with Madewell Concrete to lay concrete for a extended patio. The total price for the job was $7796.00. I paid half up front totaling $3898.00. On Jul 10 2022, I received a text message stating the job would be canceled due to weather. I contacted Madewell concrete on Jul 12 2022 to reschedule and was told no availability until 26 August 2022. I immediately asked for a refund. I spoke to Ty in the corporate office I. Greenville SC and he stated it would take 21 days to receive my refund. I have not received my refund to date. I have made several attempts to contact Madewell Concrete with No answer, they will not return my phones calls nor will they answer the phone when I try to contact the Company.Business Response

I contracted with Madewell to replace my driveway and walkway, and add an additional walkway. The original job was completed in November and there were several issues: - Handrail not secured properly - Chipping in several places - Crack formed over conduit that was placed incorrectly (the conduit was not part of the job and was added without approval). I have had several communications with Caleb K**** in 2021, but in 2022 he went out on leave for the year. I was redirected to Angel V******. I spoke to Angel on May 6th, and he made a visit to my house the first week of June where he agreed to redo the entire job. After several follow emails, I was connected with Stephen M****. On July 19th Stephen told me the job was scheduled for August 10th. I did not receive any confirmation on when the job would start after that. The crew did not show up and even after calling Angel on the 9th, 10th, and 11th, and emailing both Angel and Stephon on 8/9, 8/10, and 8/12 I have not heard anything from them. My goal is to have this job completed to the quality expected, but it has been 9 months and I'm still getting the run around from Madewell. I'm hoping we can get this resolved.Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
I have attached the emails in the original complaint that are from Angel agreeing to redo the entire job due to the myriad of issues we have had with the driveway from day one (I worked with Caleb in Nov and Dec until he went away on Military duties). This agreement came after Angel and another person from Madewell visited my house and visually inspected the issues. Angel and Stephen were both emailed, and I called Angel three times after the crew did not show up to complete the job on 8/10 as scheduled (also in the attachments). Are you saying they are both no longer with the company? If not, there is no excuse for the continued miscommunication from Madewell.I need to know if you are you saying that you will no longer honor the warranty claim that Angel approved? If so, then I have not choice but to take legal action.

I had a concrete driveway installed a year ago which has a 10 year warranty. On 6/21/22 I filed a claim on line as advised by Madewell customer service for cracks and a low points the concrete that is holding water. I was contacted a few days later by Madewell and told that I would be contacted by someone who would come out to look at issues. I have not received that call to date. I have emailed Madewell twice and called to follow up 5 times in 7 weeks. I have been told that my request has been escalated, but still no action on my issues even though I have told them that I would be filing a complaint with BBB.Business Response

Hi *****,
These cracks are not larger than an half inch in "total length." Per your agreement, and warranty:

These are hairline cracks, they are normal. There is nothing that we can do.

So they "finished" the rework on 9/6/22 of putting a ramp at the gate and repoured the edge section so that there's now a straight edge. They did not do anything about the patio not being tied in to the existing patio that was in the original plan. They did not tie in any of the rework they did. When I brought it up, Ryan said they didn't have any rebar. They didn't do anything about how they tied in to the old driveway. The workers cleaned the Georgia buggy out in the road this time and and catching most of it in a 5 gallon bucket. Some still got in the road, but a lot better than last time when they cleaned it out in my yard. However, the contractor arrived back on site a little while later, grabbing the 5 gallon bucket they used for the Georgia buggy and he dumped it on mine and my neighbors yards, right on the line. I had to use a rake to break some of it up and then a shovel to get the rest. The extended part where plastic got under a thin coat of concrete, they ground down in a couple of areas and did a layover, which previously when I had asked about layover work they said they couldn't do it because they can't guarantee it would last. So only time will tell if this repair will last. When they were grinding, they hit part of the existing driveway so now I have circular cuts in the existing concrete.I guess that's all they will do. They said if anything comes up, to file a warranty claim. So for now, cosmetically, I guess you could say they "finished" the job.Initial Complaint

I signed a contract with madewell back in April of this year . When I had the sales rep , Chris come out I expressed the urgency of this project . I wanted to work with someone who can do this quickly as I am having the city come after me for the current state of the driveway . He stated wouldn’t take longer than a month . It’s almost August and I get little to no communication on the project. I got a loan with their partner , ********, which says I can only use the funds till October . I feel I am getting scammed . The offer had 12 months interest free and the time is coming up soon. I had 2 times where a representative named Dustin was supposed to come out and he never showed both times . Luckily I wasn’t as dumb the second time we scheduled and kept evidence of the call in case this would happen . Said we would meet in June on a day and of course, didn’t give a time ! He never called back, never told me he wouldn’t show . Nothing! Such great customer service ! Didn’t do so until I emailed manager Paul requesting to void contract so I can take my money elsewhere and avoid the Potential legal fees that the city is about to throw at me now . All thanks to madewell lies on time frame and open communication! I’d attach the proof of emails and such but I am retaining these incase madewell decides to become a PROFESSIONAL company and follow through with at least one of my requests . Thanks . I hired Madewell concrete LLC to build a walkway at my home. I was given a quote of $6350. I signed a contract stating that amount and paid $3175 upfront for a deposit. The day before the work was to be done, one of the sales reps sent me a text saying due to labor cost the job would be $1700 more than my contract price. After a text message exchange and a conversation with the regional manager, I informed them I would like to have my deposit back. They apologized and said since it was an error on their part with pricing they would be happy to refund my deposit. It has been over three weeks now. I have not received my deposit. I have called Madewell multiple times and left multiple messages with no response. I would like to take any action necessary to recover my deposit. Thank you.Business Response

I contracted with Madewell concrete to install a concrete patio along the backside of my home on 6/2. On 6/1, I spoke with Terence, a project manager from Madewell, to schedule the pre-production walk through for that day. Unfortunately, my work schedule didn't allow this until after 5pm. Terrence and I agreed to do the walk through and inspection at 7am on 6/2/22 BEFORE work was scheduled to begin. At 6:23am the crew from Madewell arrived at my home, waking me, they asked me to move my car to gain access to my backyard. While I was inside getting myself together for the day, the crew began excavating my property without my permission and before Terrence and I were scheduled or able to do the walk through or inspection. Terrence arrived at 7:05am. He rang the doorbell and texted me, At 7:10 am when I came out to meet with Terrence, he told me he believed a concrete slab used for a ham-radio base was an old septic lid. I explained what the slab was, calling my ex-husband to confirm. Terrence informed me, he had already cancelled the concrete delivery and I would need to reschedule. In the time that the crew was excavating prior to my authorization. They tore up part of the existing patio sidewalk, and unburied the drain running underground to a connection that runs down the yard. They also damaged my fence post and gate (the fence post/gate have been repaired). I have tried to resolve this complaint directly with Madewell concrete, but have been unsuccessful.Business Response

I had a great experience with Madewell… until the building inspector showed up. Madewell did not pour the concrete footers to standards (or even their own diagram). The building inspector for our county asked us to tear it up and replace. My contract with Madewell stated that the "Footings to be 12”x16” and approximately 32’ in length. Rebar reinforced". Dealing with the supposed claims process has been a nightmare. Don't expect anyone to communicate with you. The project manager even wrote me and said "Madewell Concrete will be re-imbursing $2,250 to ****** *** to complete report footers for his Patio extension upon completion of work. Madewell recognizes that the footers were 8 inches instead of the standard 12 inches, therefore we are acknowledging reimbursement for the work that is to be completed by third party. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns! -- Reid G*** Senior Production Manager- Atlanta Division *****madewellconcrete.com 404-******** " Without resolution, I am now in the unfortunate position of evaluating my legal options.Customer Answer
