On 1/28/2023 Hawkins Towing Inc. Towed My girlfriend's son's car during his birthday dinner at ****** ***** Hibachi in Greenville. The parking lot that they towed the car from had two small signs marking the parking lot. You would have had to be looking for them to spot them and they had just placed them recently. There were also many other cars parked there. According to **** ***, an app that tracks her son on her mobile device, he parked in the lot at approx. 6:35 pm. The towing company reported to Greenville County Sheriff's Department that they were towing his car at approx. 7:42pm. Towing companies are generally required to wait an hour before towing. It was strange that they waited almost exactly an hour before they picked the car up. It's almost as if they were watching the lot in a predatory fashion. Because it was after business hours on a Saturday night and they were closed on Sunday, we could not pick the car up until Monday. They towed the vehicle to their furthest facility in T********* ****. When we went to pick up the car on Monday morning, They charged us for three days impound at $135, towing at $125 and an administrative fee on an additional $150. They required us to pay cash and wanted me to sign a document that absolved them of any legal liability or reasonable care responsibilities. The total for the bill was $410. They would not accept credit or debit cards. I cannot believe that this would be legal or acceptable in my home state of South Carolina. If it is legal, I will be reaching out to my State Representative in order to rectify this grievous error.

The call-in reference, we do not tow away a private property vehicle unless called by someone (property owner, manager, Maintenace, loss prevention) to ask us to tow the vehicle.  I have that call recorded as a company policy the file is large as she wanted 22 vehicles removed. It is next to ****** in Greenville and restaurant he is referencing   As you see the signs are all to state specification, I am sure he would not appreciate anyone parking in his driveway over and over.  The section code is clear on us not having to return the vehicle outside off business hours.  It is our company policy we do not.  This is to mitigate any lawsuits the vehicle was not givien to registered owner.  We can pull DMV information only during business hours.  The reason a credit card is not accepted is it not a tow authorized by the customer and they can refuse the charge with thier cc compnay, even though they have taken it upon themselves to park on some elses  property.    In reference to parking in a tow away zone being allowed so much time to stay before towed.   The section code is on the sign with our information.   The lesson learned is not to park on Private property.  As Greenville is growing the problem with only worsen that some of the motoring public feel they can park anywhere.  I have included our signs from 24 Park Woodruff that is where he/she parked also pictures of the restaurant and the private parking lot.  Sorry I am limited to 4 attachments.

      Thank you
