I have had 4 MRI's done within the past 12 months. 3 of those MRI'S I had done at *** ****** ********* in Summerville SC, which has state of the art equipment, and transparent billing. What you are told is what you pay. I have been paying 460.00 on average per MRI to *** ****** *********. So the surgeon I used for a knee operation asked me to use Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC for a knee MRI. This is the bill I'm adamant is wrong. Colleton Medical Center called me and set up the appointment. Took my insurance information and asked pre exam questions. I later received a email requesting my portion of what would be owed for this MRI. It was slightly over 600.00. The email stated if I paid for all the services on the day of the procedure I would get a 20% discount. So on the day of the MRI when I checked in I paid the 480.00 that was owed. That is all I owed. About two months later I received the attached bill. I go in person to the hospital and spoke with the billing department representative, which was late to work because Dunkin Doughnuts had a line requiring her to be late, and I asked the questions of why I owed this. I was told because my insurance which is **** ***** *** **** ****** didn't pay the claim. So I asked, "You got a pre authorization for the MRI?, and you gave me the amount that I owed? You got all that straight before the appointment". I didn't really get a answer. I was just left with it sucks to be you and shrugged off. I also asked why would I agree to come and sign up for a MRI with Colleton Medical Center knowing that I would be billed for 4 times the amount that it normally cost me to go to *** ****** *********? I will also say Colleton Medical Centers MRI machines are not up to par as far as technology. So I'm left with a bill that does not make sense. I do know Colleton Medical Center is a for profit hospital. I do know they don't have transparent billing.
