Erlanger West, in Murphy, NC. The people I see when my wife and I get care at Erlanger West, a.k.a. Murphy Medical Center, are generally very good. Billing sucks. Really bad. Incompetent. Borders on fraud. We have Medicare. Medicare is our primary provider. After Medicare pays the bill, or what part of it they are supposed to pay, a Medicare explanation of benefits is supposed to get to our secondary insurance. It never does. I get a bill from several different departments. I asked them if they have billed my secondary insurance. They check. They find out that they haven't heard from my secondary insurance, or my secondary insurance has declined to pay until they send the Medicare explanation of benefits. How do you spell EOB? Either they're really stupid about billing, odd for a billing department, or it's deliberate fraud. I recognize that in the United States, we don't have a healthcare system at all, we have a healthcare industry. Profit is everything. I get billed for more than my insurance will pay, because they make these weird alliances called "in network" or "out of network". ever notice how, when you get to a medical appointment, you have to sign papers that say you will pay if the insurance doesn't pay? I want to get them to sign a document that says they won't bill until they have billed all the insurance correctly and been declined. And they should send that information with their bill.

I was verbally assaulted by two nurses named Skylar and Kim. Listened to them refer to us a problem humans, and spoke about me while in the room in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner. I felt unsafe being treated by them after being harassed. Skylar came out to the waiting room attempting to give me treatment after all of this occurred. I stated after this I am asking I get a new nurse, she stood up laughed in my face and stated she was refusing to treat me, skipped off and laughed bye back to the back door. I am requesting for video footage to be pulled regarding my time there to be addressed Immediately and I am demanding I get a call back apologizing for how I was treated, and to make sure this will not happen to patients in the future. To be called security on as well, when just asking for the status of pain killers might I state was also ridiculous of Skylar. We go there to get treatment and to get help cause we are in pain not to be treated poorly by your staff. I am still appalled by the service I was given.

Ms. W********- we apologize for the service you received. This is certainly not the experience we want anyone to have. Someone from our patient experience team has emailed you so we can get more details. Thank you for letting us know.

Worst hospital ever been to. Been in Er almost 12 hours being admitted Dr are giving test results in waiting room no privacy. Then telling visitor with you after 10 hours need to go to Childrens Emergency to get a visitors pass and walk at midnight down a block not safe at all for a woman. Why didn’t you tell them in the other 10 hours sitting here they need one. Getting your medicine delivered in waiting room blood drawer in waiting room test results. Not sanitary at all.

I am inpatient now at Erlanger 3rd street on 6th floor. I have good things. To say about 3 people. Nurses and one Tech. The Tech’s name is Pamela and nurses are Leslie and a very good and compassionate. I was totally applauded by there unprofessional attitude on the 6th floor and just plain laziness !!!!

I found a text on my elderly mother’s flip phone. Per the texted link, its a debt collection agency & the debt is $189.70 for Erlanger Physicians. The only Erlanger Physician my mother has seen was a neurologist in January. So I called the Erlanger Billing Department to ask if my mother had an outstanding balance. Alicia in the Billing Department claimed they mailed statements to my mother for an outstanding balance numerous times between March 01 to August 23 2023. I collect my mother’s mail almost daily at her assisted living center, where she has her own post office box & she has never received a statement from Erlanger. My mother has received other mail from Erlanger so it is odd that she never received a statement, especially if the Billing Department had mailed multiple copies. After verifying that Erlanger had a copy of my POA on file, Alicia further explained that they attempted to call & text my mother multiple times & got no response. In fact, Alicia advised that on one occasion someone hung up after answering one of their calls. If I understand all of this correctly, Erlanger has told me that a stranger from the billing office called a patient who has Parkinsons & is not in 100% good mental health & tried to tell her she owed money. Alicia then referred me to Paragon. I asked her how is Paragon related to Erlanger. She told me it is a debt collection agency. I asked if she could explain the charges & she told me no, Erlanger does not hold onto outstanding charges this long & Paragon would have to tell me the details. I asked why no one contacted me in the first place or after they got no response from my mother & Alicia had no answer for that. It is obvious by the fact that I called Erlanger Billing Department & further apparent by the fact that I paid the bill at Paragon that an unwillingness or inability to pay the bill was not an issue. I hope Erlanger can find a better way to collect from incapacitated elderly patients in the future.
