For the year 2020 the *** had us file separately. My husband and I had NEVER filed separately (52yrs)!!! I was never counseled by the *** that by filing separately I would lose my marriage credit. We make quarterly tax payments. I have always sent in my part of quarterly taxes with my husband's social security number first. I was charged for fines and penalties as IRS did not see my quarterly payments. After many phone calls that was finally straightened out. In late November I get a letter from ****************************** stating I was now being forced to pay out of my social check $******/month due to IRMMA based on my filing separately. This was a decision our *** CHOSE for us. I was not even asked if I wanted to file separately. I had our *** amend the tax form and she charged an additional $****** for her amending services and it cost $****** to refile with the **** The amended return was supposed to happen within 20wks. It is now 38wks with no resolution in sight. At the end of this year I will have lost ******x 12=$4490.40 +****** +******= $5145.40!! I asked the *** why she chose to have us file separately and she stated it would save my husband $200.00. She said she asked my husband and he has no recollection. I WAS NOT EVEN CONSULTED and it has only effected me. I am not sure she knows anything about IRMMA or if she even thought what she was doing to my ********* I feel the service given was terrible!!! We went to another business to file our 2021 taxes and the *** found where Thurman Campbell *** also did not file a tax deduction of $4900.00 for FY 2020.
