If I could give negative stars I would because that is what this company deserve. I contracted with ********** of Morris General Construction in March, 2021 for garage conversion. It was supposed to take approximately 6 weeks, yet it is now March, 2023 and I still don't have my home. I've shown nothing but ***** to this man, which is why I haven't entered a complaint with BBB until now. I don't want to hurt anyone's business, but apparently this company has no problem hurting their customers financially and emotionally. Just last week, *** said he needed something done, it was done and I've heard nothing since. I turn 66 this year and was planning to retire. My daughter asked me to downsize and move in with them so that I could retire without a mortgage. We sold our homes, bought a larger home that had an additional garage large enough to make a nice 2 BR, 1.5 BA in-law home for me. I was so excited. *** promised to do an amazing job that would include "a luxurious bathroom", said I'm going to "love" my home when he finished with it. Now 2 years later my "luxurious bathroom" is still a pile of sand. I found out too late that *** never got approved inspections and now my home is non-compliant in the city where I live. I went strictly by the contract and paid each installment as due. ********** received every payment, plus an additional $20K more for "unforeseen" issues he presented to me. Now I'm without my home and lost more than $90K for what I thought would be my retirement home, close to my daughter. I believe that he saw that I was an honest and trusting person and took advantage of that. Yes, I'm taking legal action but the money that I am spending for it is still reducing my retirement with no guarantee that I'll recover any of what I've lost. I would not recommend this company to build a dog house. I believe that they take advantage of people's kindness. Don't use Morris General Construction.

*** came in & started doing work on a garage to be used as living space. After $90k which was the approximate initial cost, there was no garage door, no complete bathroom upstairs or downstairs, no HVAC, insufficient duct work, insufficient trim work etc...Job was halted due to numerous failed inspections that *** claimed came out and gave him approval to move forward. Each inspector for that municipality came to the job site at the same time & all stated that none of the work passed inspection & that they never came out. *** has no proof (paperwork, names) of any of the guys he claims came out and approved work. Framing inspection failed, electrical, hvac, plumbing, everything was not according to code. The inspectors stated the only way they could provide a certificate of occupancy is if all the drywall came down to the studs so they could come in and inspect. That is what it will take to move this forward. That was over 6 months ago and *** has made no attempt to rectify the issues. He says he doesn't know what to do, but the inspectors & the fire marshal spelled it out for him in my driveway on 12/13/2021. *** with Morris Construction may have been a five star in the past, but he has not delivered for me. And after countless legal letters from attorneys, he has shown no signs of fixing the problem. He even stated at the quarterly state contractor hearing held in July 2022 that he didn't bother to understand the code in the municipality he was working in. So you tell me, how *** is able to provide quality work for construction on a building when he admitted he didn't take the time to familiarize himself with the building codes. And I am tired of sub contractors calling me about money owed that *** did not pay for services rendered. I want every dime of money spent or *** needs to bring everything up to code without another draw from me. I have already paid. *** has not delivered. I have recordings and affidavits to prove the above.
