On August 15th 2024 I called my apartment complex letting them know that I would not be extending my lease. They told me that they would put my request down as terminated and I did not need to take any further action. My lease ends 11/11/24. Around the 15th of October I get an email saying that my lease was extended by an additional month at a higher rate because of my failure to let them know I wish to terminate. I called them immediately to speak about this issue and I was told "there is no record of you sending a written statement saying you wish to terminate your lease". I told them about the phone conversation me and ******** from the office had on the 15th of August, they told me "there is no record of this call or any note saying that I wish to cancel my lease". I have tried to email them and their management company, but to no avail. All I wish to do is end my lease with this complex as I have already secured another place to live and have been paying 2 rents for 5 months now. I have tried to reason with them and even strike a deal that would be beneficial to them more than me but nothing. I also asked if I could break the lease so they would be able get a new tenant in earlier than planned. They have been nothing but disrespectful, inconsiderate and rude every time I have talked with them on the phone. I need help, they are saying I owe them thousands more than I agreed to on my original lease, because of a mistake they have made. My next payment is due in 3 days and I hope to get this resolved as soon as possible. Info you may need:Apartment M-183

    Business Response

    Date: 11/11/2024

Mr. ***** contacted the leasing office by phone on August 15, 2024 to inform the management team that he would not be renewing his lease. He spoke with our assistant manager, *** *****, who informed Mr. ***** that he would need to submit the notice to vacate in writing. *** also followed with ******** via email correspondence on 8/15/2024 to confirm that he would like to submit his notice to vacate. If he had responded to the email that *** sent, that would have sufficed as written notice of his intention to move out. He did not respond to the email. A renewal reminder email was sent to Mr. ***** on 10/04/2024 because we had not received written notice to vacate. He responded to the email reminder on 10/12/2024 informing us that he spoke with someone on the 15th of August to given verbal notice. ******** ******* responded to Mr. ***** the same day to let him know that we did not receive written notice to a vacate despite reaching out to him via email to confirm his notice to vacate in writing. We entered his notice to vacate on October 12, 2024 once the written confirmation was received. Our lease states that 60 day written notice is required if a resident decides to move. Mr. ***** lease is scheduled to expire on November 11, 2024, so he would be responsible for one month at the month to month rate.
