1 starI’ve been working with Summertown for over one year now. If I could give them a zero star rating I would. They said the project would take about six weeks. I figured 8 to 12 weeks would be plenty of time. Here we are one year later. They’re 6 to 700 items that still need fixed. I talked to Matt, one of the owners on the phone, 1 June, I told him his company didn’t care about our project. He assured me they did. It took 2 1/2 months to fix the worst horrible job I’ve ever seen in my life. Then, of course after fix the very next day it was leaking worse than it did the day before. the rough started leaking 11 months ago when they first installed it. It still leaking today. If they cared about my project, they would’ve taken care of it without me having to bake them to come out and do their job They have black screws in blue siding. they installed blue screws in white trim. There are hundreds of scratches and dings and dents and miss cut metal. One pice trim that sticks out 1 inch past the other piece of trim. The worst construction I have ever seen in my life and I’ve been in the construction business for 40 years. They put the wrong bolts in the concrete post, brackets and damaged the concrete. the bolts look ugly. They took a **** saw and cut the new concrete porch during framing. They tried to patch it with some concrete silicone. Looks worse now then it did before My wife used the garage door for three months when the rope broke and she spilled coffee all over herself and was late for work. our dining room garage door it took them 4 1/2 months to fix the spring so we could actually open and close it. They shipped out wrong size windows. They shipped out a replacement Cupla damaged to be on repair. They shipped out new black roof panels to fix bad spots and it was the wrong color black. there’s a micro header that was notched does not have a top plate. Does not have the proper king studs. I have begged them for eight months to finish this project.Review fromDerrick C

5 starsBefore starting the build process, we reviewed several barndominium builders to confirm what they offered. We concluded no other builder offered the pricing, plans and quality than Summertown Metals. We also received numerous recommendations from previous customers and that confirmed our decision. Everyone from sales, planning, office staff, building coordinators and subcontractors were phenomenal!!! The Summertown team made our build process easy and the quality of our home is top notch!! We often received numerous comments on how well our home was built and the quality of the work. I highly recommend Summertown Metals as your next builder!!!Review fromRichard I

5 stars1st - we are not & havent been assoc. w STM & are not being compensated. We did our homework on Barndo’s & companies. Once we'd done the background ck on STM we drove 3 hours (1 way) to see the op. The folks were all great at the Hdqrts! Got a tour of the facilities & saw where everything is made. Great people working in the mtls, supply & build areas - all friendly & informative. We signed that day & have no regrets. Now, we are about 50% complete w slab, framework, & utility rough-in. Temp power & water are about to be connected. Gabes guys did our slab & Abels guys are doing the framework. Recommendations: RTFI (read the flippin’ instructions)! You will receive detailed info about it all & what is req'd of you. Be responsible & not an entitled, lazy spoon-fed child) & read! The few questions you have, call & you will get a quick, friendly answer. Be prepared EARLY with decisions on EVERYTHING, where to get it & how long it takes. We bought everything months early & stored it all. Bought everything on special sales at ****** saved us ovder $40k & everything is ready for our subs when they need it. Is STM perfect? Get real…except for the Good Lord, what is? The very few problems we’ve had were quickly addressed & corrected w no ‘attitude! Have ample access to the site & a well-built base to your driveway. Concrete & material trucks are heavy! To date, everyone at STM returns calls or emails quickly, & politely. The CAD department worked w us & made several changes to the size & interior of the Daugherty & the plans they emailed were clear & detailed in color. All changes were done w friendly, professional advice & no ‘attitude’! If you're near Summertown stop & visit & you’ll be impressed w the facility, folks, & quality. Our sincere thanks to Kortney, Lindsey, Nikki, NO HAT Jessie, Christy, Robin, & Colton. We recommend this company & folks & would use them again. We're proud to display their co. sign in our yard. 5 starsWe have nothing but good things to say about Summertown Metals, it started with Jesse in sales, then Kortney helped coordinate everything with the building materials and delivery and Billy which is the project manager, and Nikki, Laryssa, Robin and all the drivers that delivered the materials and all of the different contractors that worked on the building. There was not one person that didn’t not do their job well, their attitude, their work ethic was awesome. The times we live in now you just don’t see this anymore. What a refreshing experience!! Thanks again guys, **** *****Review fromG.E. D

3 starsI was dealing with Summertown metals on a house build, and was using one of their licensed general contractors, for some unusual reason, he was being held up and lots of intentional conflicts arose around his contracts, BUT it was from someone within the company, come to find out after the fact, a party within the organization was undermining my contractor by double scheduling necessary people and giving contrary instructions to key people in the construction process. I had discussions with others their also about their struggle with Quality control and even offered to assist them with it free of charge. having done maintenance work for years. Well my contractor quit and left summertown metals. only later did i discover why. Listed above. this owner contractor mode i also noted too. they are selling a labor crew with no accountability it appears and leaving you with the headaches. i have seen some good apples in this barrel but i am seeing the fruits of a few bad ones ruining the rest of that barrel. i would watch them like a hawk if i was dealing with them. i see their are issues their. But exactly where they lie is yet to be discovered. AND PROVEN TO BE FACT. so i recommend Proceed with Caution. EVERYTHING rises or falls on LEADERSHIP in a organization. After 3 branches of Military Service. I can see when something is AMISS usually, i Saw that here.Review fromBrad B

1 starSummertown built a building I cannot use because the concrete floor is 4 inches above grade. The sliding barn doors go down to grade level, so there is a 4-inch step into the garage. Now I can't get my equipment in there. I called to ask for help and they told me to just add a ramp with a gap for the doors. This is a stupid solution. I just looked on their website and saw many pictures of similar buildings with barn doors. None of them have this issue. So, I have to assume they are just lying to me because they don't want to fix it.Review fromHunter G

5 starsSummertown Metals was a great company to work with! We could not be happier with such an easy process. Their company was prompt, careful, attentive to detail, and did what they said they would do. From our first encounter with Derek S****, I knew that we would surely have a memorable experience and a wonderful house to one day be our home. We utilized the expertise of Derek and Summertown Metals in many different areas of our home build including construction best-practices, design / engineering support, and project management. I will highly recommend their services to any of my friends, family or acquaintances in the future. And I will continue to work with Derek and his team in my future endeavors. Thank you for all your help!Review fromJeffery H

2 starsHorrible Marketing/Follow-Up. The company makes the sales first and blindly and casually leads the customer through a “owner contractor” clause. This is very misleading if you’re a regular “Joe” trying to purchase and have built on your property. These are the professionals that know “all” the particulars of building codes etc. In my experience the emphasis on “owner contractor” should be first and far most the cardinal rule established and completed before making the sale. My experience was and still is horrible. If the business model was consumer friendly and transparent then the company should go no further until they receive from you the permit and license verification. Also, there policies should include a separate process for the licensing and permit process for “all” purchases. I purchased materials and a labor team to erect a building. Little emphasis was placed on codes and restrictions…the emphasis was on a deposit. 20k dollars later still no building. I’d like for them to come and get their materials and refund my money. This is misleading, a person needs a contractor to build a structure that has had mixed applications.
