              I have used this business for years to board my dogs, but this time is the last time I will use them. My dogs were not fed according to my instructions to the po8nt that one of them died. She was a 14 year old in perfect health. Had some vision an hearing issues, but no health issues. She weighed 15.9 lbs when I dropped her off on a Thursday afternoon and was dead by Saturday evening. I had a necropsy done. She only weighed 13.1 lbs. I had been told she had eaten, but there were no stomach contents at necropsy. All my other dogs came home with leftover food even though I had measured exactly how much they would need for the duration of their stay. I never thought when I handed my dog over to them that I was sending her to her death!

              Dear Ms.S., we are heartbroken at the loss of Ebony. You have put your trust in us to care for your thirteen dogs, some with very special needs, for years. Each one of them holds a very special place in our hearts. I can assure you that our overnight caregiver was not in any way neglecting or purposefully not feeding your dogs. Though she was late that night, and has received disciplinary action, there is an amount of stress that can occur for pets while being boarded. This stress can cause some dogs to not eat as they would at home. Our employees are certified in pet CPR and First Aid. But as it is with people, a heart attack or stroke, as the necropsy showed, can happen so suddenly. We are so sorry for your experience and we grieve with you at the loss of your sweet Ebony.

              Ebony would not have lost 2.8.lbs between Thursday afternoon and Saturday evening because of one late feeding. She did not have any health issues to account for that weight loss either. Ebony had stayed at Le Chateau several times over the years and had never been stressed enough to not eat. Why would she have been that stressed during this stay? She had hearing and vision difficulties which were stated on the registration form I completed. I also told the employee who took her back to her kennel when I dropped her off. Because of her vision and hearing difficulties, if no one took time to get her attention when the food was put in the kennel, she would not have known it was there before one of her housemates in the kennel with her took the opportunity to enjoy the extra food. Your feeding policy needs to focus on making sure all the dogs in the same kennel are eating out of their own bowls instead of whether or not they are fed on time.
