I hired Discount Property Taxes to represent my property tax protest in 2021-2022. On July 26, 2021, I paid Discount Property Taxes $121.93 for their tax protest services for 2021, but on May 5, 2022, they sent out an email where they said that for 2022 tax protests they will start charging an upfront fee of $150 for any properties with a homestead exemption that I want protested. I only had my rental property signed up for tax protest with them, and I did not know that my rental property was not a homestead exemption, so on June 8 I told them that I wanted to cancel their service. They responded by writing that they removed my protest. Prior to withdrawing my property tax protest, they never informed me in 2022 that they had already filed my protest with the county, so when I was asking them to cancel the service I was unaware that they had already filed my protest. Then, they informed me that the $150 fee does not apply to my property. I never asked them to withdraw my protest, I asked them to cancel their service (the protest itself could have been done by another tax protest agency, even though it was filed by Discount Property Taxes). Because they withdrew my protest without my authorization, the new agency that I hired to protest my property taxes could not refile it for 2022. It was the responsibility of Discount Property Taxes to inform me that they already filed my protest in 2022 (had I known that, I would have explicitly stated that they should not remove it when I emailed then in June 2022). It was also their responsibility to confirm with me before removing my protest in 2022. They neglected to do any of that. Because of their lack of communication and unauthorized removal of my protest, I am now at a loss for my property taxes for 2022. I would like a refund of $121.93 for the losses that the actions of Discount Property Taxes caused me for the 2022 tax year.
