• Advertising Review:

  BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.  These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.
  
  On March 1, 2023, BBB contacted the business regarding advertisements on their website https://vikingroofstx.com.  
  
  Viking Roofing and Construction advertised “We are the #1 Rated Roofing company in San Antonio and the Hill Country!” 
  BBB Code of Advertising states Objective Superlative Claims: Superlative statements in advertisements about the tangible qualities and performance values of a product or service are objective claims for which the advertiser must possess substantiation as they can be based upon accepted standards or tests. As statements of fact, such claims, like “#1 in new car sales in the city,” can be proved or disproved.

  BBB requested Viking Roofing and Construction to substantiate the #1 claim, discontinue or modify the claim to be less quantitative.  Viking Roofing and Construction updated the claim to "We are one of the highest rated roofers in San Antonio and the Hill Country!" and substantiated the claim with their Google rating.
  
  BBB also requested Viking Roofing and Construction to substantiate the advertised claim the roof shampoo used is "eco-friendly." Viking Roofing and Construction modified its website to link to the product https://washsafe.com/. BBB discovered Washsafe advertises its products are “Eco-friendly” and “Eco-safe.” After review BBB found Washsafe's SDS alleges their product is “Harmful to aquatic life”
  
  Viking Roofing and Construction also advertise they offer "Lifetime roof replacement warranties on all our roofs! and "Up to 50-Year Warranty" of their "expanding Spray-on waterproof roof coating."

  BBB Code of Advertising states: when using the term “warranty” or “guarantee” in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to the sale at the advertiser’s location, viewed on the advertiser's website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request. 

  BBB Code of Advertising also states when advertising “lifetime” warranties or guarantees or similar representations, the advertisement must clearly and conspicuously disclose the intended meaning of the term “lifetime.”

  BBB requested Viking Roofing and Construction modify their website to include the intended meaning of “lifetime” and include details if the warranty is transferrable should the customer sell their house, or if it is limited to a certain number of years. 

  BBB also requested a copy of Viking Roofing and Construction's guarantee policy and also requested they modify their website to disclose how a consumer can view the warranty or guarantee prior to sale.

  As of March 24, 2023, Viking Roofing and Construction have failed to substantiate, modify or discontinue the advertised claims.
