Transaction on 11-13-2024 **** ***** had his workers load the trailer (trailer belonged to abf a different moving company). Abf would drive the trailer from ** to **. **** told me they were charging him *****. He booked it for me. After *** dropped off they gave me the receipt of what he had actually paid them which was $4243. He told me he was just charging me for having his workers load the trailer for me. The total I paid was 8900. They worked at my house for 2.5 hours . I then saw a review for his business that said for the same amount of stuff I had, they charged 139 per hour so how does that amount to him charging me almost $5,000 plus my $400 tip that he never gave his workers. I feel like he took advantage of a woman who seemed to be more better off than him and had a crying newborn always on her while trying to get her things back to her family in **. His daughter recommended him to me and spoke glorious thing of him and the business . In a other ****** review I saw his nephew was recommending him and thats how he was able to basically scam someone else . When confronted he never responds which is also another trend of this company. He clearly also pays for positive reviews in order to trap people. This is why I fell for it instead of reading every review one by one. He said his zelle wasnt working and he convinced me not to use a credit card because a credit card would charge a large feel. But now I see its because he did not want me to dispute the charge. I ended up giving him a certified check. He covered his tracks by calling me every time I sent a text so that there would be no written proof.Business Response

The customer informed us that she paid over $10,000 to move the items that she was requesting us to move to ********. But since they have lived here a few years, they acquired quite a bit more possessions. She knew it would cost more than $10,000 to have a company move the items to *************. I would have charged her over $12,800 if we had to move the merchandise ourselves with our own trucks. I told her I could arrange another way to get her property there for less than she paid years ago with less items. She was thrilled. Also, she called us at the last minute and wanted to be able to leave before Thanksgiving so I had to change my schedule and I actually went out there with my crew to help load the truck so she could leave and be home in time for Thanksgiving. Basically she knew if I took the items out there myself it would cost about $12,900 and if I set up another way, it would only cost $8900 which is less than she paid for the items that she had before the current time. They were absolutely thrilled that we could get them there for that amount considering they had more things and I could do it in time for Thanksgiving. I couldve personally drove the items out there and Charge the customer quite a bit more money but wanting to save them money we chose to do it this way for them. And like I said, they were absolutely thrilled. They are complaining about the companies part of the compensation, which is customer has no idea what all the cost are involved in a moving company. So Im very shocked that shes complaining about the amount only after finding out what the cost was for the truck involved. They signed the contract and were extremely happy until they saw the invoice for the truck which that is the way the moving business works you cannot make a living by only charging cost. It doesnt work that way in any business or any company. You dont buy a car and are extremely happy with the price and then find out that the dealership only paid a certain amount for the car and then you get all upset, even though the price you paid for the car at that dealership was less than any other dealership You see we got her merchandise over there cheaper than any other company could possibly do it and they were happy until they tried to figure out what our margins were. Which they have no understanding of that. So basically there is no complaint. They signed the contract. They were extremely happy with the service. They only got upset when they found out what they thought were the margins for our company. You dont walk into a ******* and buy something and are happy with it and then find out what ******* paid for it and then get all upset because you think ******* made too much money. Business and retail does not work that way. I wish there was something I could do, but there was nothing done wrong or illegal. The only complaint is about what they think a company should Make or not.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
During my initial conversation with ****, I mentioned my previous move to ***** and that I had paid a significant amount for full-service movingincluding packing, loading, transportation, and unloading. When he asked how much I had paid, I expressed my discomfort in sharing the amount, as I did not want it to influence his pricing. However, he insisted, reassuring me that it wouldnt affect the price, stating that we were practically family and that he had been in the business for many years, with connections that allowed him to offer me whatever discount he received. Trusting his words, I naively and reluctantly disclosed what I believed my prior move had cost $10,000.
At that time, he stated that his charge would only be for loading the *** trailer with my belongings which consists of boxes and bins no large furniture or bulky items , at a cost of $900. However, upon researching his standard pricing for other customers, I found that his usual rate was $139 per hour, and his team worked a maximum of 3 hours at my residence, as confirmed by security camera footage.
He also claimed that *** was charging him $8,000 and that his only profit was $900. However, I later confirmed that the actual cost of booking the *** trailer was $4,243. *** handled all transportation, and fuel costsnot Abundant Moving.
From his response, it is clear that he focused solely on the $10,000 figure I had mentioned and attempted to charge me as close to that amount as possible. In reality, after confirming with my husband, I found that my previous full-service move had cost significantly less than $10,000. Given that Abundant Movings involvement in my current move was limited to just 2.53 hours of loading, I fail to see how such a brief service justified a charge exceeding what *** itself charged.
Throughout our interactions, he repeatedly stated, I barely make anything out of this, but I still make a little. If phone records from November 11, 2024, are reviewed, this statement will be corroborated. However, the $900 charge he initially claimed turned out to be $4,657the difference between ***s actual charge and what I ultimately paid.
He continuously emphasized how much he was making, despite never being asked. His repeated discussion of his earnings seemed intended to sound convincing rather than to provide transparency.
Additionally, while I had mentioned that I would prefer the move to be completed by Thanksgiving, I made it clear that it was not a strict deadline. However, on November 11, 2024, he called me while my newborn was crying. Instead of offering to speak at a more convenient time, he pressured me to make an immediate decision, stating that *** needed confirmation in order to bring the trailer by November 13, 2024. I believe he took advantage of my situation, speaking over my childs cries instead of waiting for a more appropriate moment to discuss the details.
Furthermore, he inaccurately claimed that a 26-foot trailer was necessary, which I assume was to justify a higher charge. However, as shown in the *** receipt I originally submitted, the trailer was less than half full. Even his workers commented on the excessive unused space, asking if I had anything else to load.
His verbal statements also conflicted with his written responses. He initially told me that if his company were handling the entire moveincluding transportationit would cost $14,000, not $12,800, as he later documented. Additionally, in his response, he cited two different figures$12,800 and $12,900, creating another inconsistency.
Finally, I am formally requesting a copy of the signed contract with my signature, as he claimed I signed and was extremely happy with the agreement. This claim contradicts the very nature of my complaintif I had signed a contract outlining detailed, itemized costs, there would have been no reason to file a complaint in the first place.Initial Complaint
