I purchased a battery on Feb. 10, 2024 for our truck. I wrote on top of the receipt "Truck - 2 years". This was so I would remember which vehicle it was for & how long the warranty was. It is totally dead. Took it to get it replaced the other day & was told there is/was no warranty due to it being a used battery. However, I was told there was a 2 year warranty. (That's why I made note of it on top of receipt.) I called the main cooperate office, she called the store while I was on hold. When she got back to me, she said that since it's a used battery, there is no ****************** she can do about it. Well, that's totally wrong. I told her that if I hadn't been told there was a warranty on it, I wouldn't have wrote it on the receipt at time of purchase. (Besides, there's no way I'm going to purchase a battery w/o a warranty.) She said she understood my frustration, and I shouldn't have been misinformed at time of purchase, but still nothing she can do at her level. As others have stated, they are *************** They lie & will not honor what they tell you at time of purchase. Now, I have to purchase & be out the cost a battery elsewhere, which I shouldn't have to do. I will not ever do business with them again.

I purchased an Interstate battery for my garden tractor from ******. The tractor is used infrequently so I keep a battery tender on it. I went to start it and the battery exploded. Acid all over the front of the tractor and a large pool of acid on my concrete floor. I spend hours removing the acid. I contacted Interstate, I was asked to return the battery to ****** so it could be returned to Interstate for inspection. I brought it to ******, they had no idea what I was talking about, they finally contacted Interstate to arrange a pickup return. Two months go by and not a word from Interstate. I emailed Interstate and was told the person that was handling this was no longer working there, so my case was now assigned to a new service person. Again, I waited. I finally got a response stating that there was nothing wrong with the battery. Hmmm, so it exploded for no reason at all, I asked. I was emailed a pre-made list of how to care for your battery. But still no explanation about my battery exploding and no more communication. The only reason a battery explodes is from an internal spark that ignites the hydrogen in the battery. This could only come from an internal short. Instead of Interstate telling me the truth and admitted the battery had a defect, Interstate just treated me like an idiot. I have at least a dozen Interstate batteries in my cars, motorcycles, aircraft tug, lawn mower, motorhome, etc. I have never had a battery explode in my 72 years. I hold a federal license to service and inspect aircraft, I know how to maintain a battery. This is how Interstate cares about it's customers. I will never purchase another ******************** product again and I have, and will continue, to post photos of my exploded battery everywhere. I asked for my battery to be returned and Interstate refused.

I am rejecting this response because:

I was in contact with you via emails. The last email I received from you was on 11/19/24, you stated: "I asked for the report from the manufacture."   On 11/29/25 I received an email from ****** ****** stating the exploded battery had no defects. I asked how a battery with no defects could explode and that was the end of the communications from interstate (Clarios). Your letter to the BBB stating that you are waiting for estimates makes no sense. You've had all my information, if you wanted to resolve this you could have contacted me some time ago. Clarios, ****** and the claims people have all had my information, along with my exploded battery.

      Regards,

My car battery was dead yesterday morning, and I had to jump start my car. I drove for an hour, and then the car wouldn't start again..the battery is dead, it didn't recharge after an hours drive. It's an Interstate battery, model MTP-151R, and is within it's free replacement warranty period. I called the 800 number listed on the battery, and spoke to an Interstate Warranty operator. The operator confirmed that my battery is still under the 30 month free replacement warranty. I was told that the closest facilty where I could get a replacement battery under warranty was closed(Friday just after 4pm), and wouldn't be open again unitl Monday at 7am. I asked the operator if there was any way to get a free replacement Interstate battery under warranty sooner. The operator told me maybe through a 3rd party. I asked for assistance in finding a nearby 3rd party, and the operator told me that she is in ****, and could not assist me further because of this. I asked to be transfered to someone who could assist me, but the operator couldn't/wouldn't accomodate this request. So I had to buy a battery at the local auto parts store instead.Interstate is falsely advertising a 30 month free replacement warranty, which they don't honor, and are incapable of honoring over the weekend. The warranty Interstate sells, is defective, just like my Interstate battery, which is less than 30 months old. I have attached photos and screenshots to support these ************* resolve this complaint, I would like Interstate to refund me $220(price of MTP-151R battery), for this defective battery and warranty.

Hello in response to this complaint and on behalf of interstate batteries the part number that is listed does carry a 24-month free replacement under warranty. We do require the battery be tested and failed before replacing. The representative for interstate would state one of our facilities for testing as not all Third-party locations are approved to conduct testing. I can and will open a case for this situation and we can help provide a refund for your replacement cost. In order to get a refund this is typically what we request listed below.

      - Old interstate battery receipt that shows date (must have receipt-no bank statements)
      - Replacement receipt that shows date (does not matter if not for an interstate battery)
      - Failed test slip showing the battery was bad (cannot say “recharge and test again”)
      Body of the email:
      Full First and last name
Full mailing address with zip code
      Contact phone number
      Email address

Please feel free to reach out to us directly at [email protected] or 1-866-884-4635 so we can resolve this complaint.

I am rejecting this response because:   Response from Interstate is not coherent/correct.  In the first line of their response, they state that the battery has a 24 month warranty, though the pictures I attached on my complaint, of my battery, and the same battery that they still advertise and sell, show that the battery is covered for 30 months of free replacement.  I'd appreciate if Interstate simply honor their warranty/product, and refund me $220, without any additional burden to me.

      Business Response

Hello , I do understand why you would reject this. Taking a second look I made an Error when reading your battery part number. You stated you have a  Model beginning with Mtp I understood it as a model beginning with MT only which is why I quoted 24 months. I can definitely Continue to help with the MTP and 30 month Warranty. Please let me know. You can contact us by E-mail @ [email protected] or call 1-866-884-4635. Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:  The Interstate representative admits to misreading fundamental/basic details in my initial complaint.  I've given them all the information they need to make good on their warranty, but they continue to avoid their warranty obligations, and to make excuses. I stand by my previous request of a refund for the value of the battery, $220.

      Customer Answer

      Date: 10/10/2024

I returned the defective Interstate battery to an Auto Zone for the core charge redemption a week or so after I bought a new battery.   The defective Interstate battery is not in my possesion anymore, but I confirm that I tried to recharge it multiple times, and it would not hold a charge.  I also jump started my car a few times when I still had the defective Interstate battery, and after driving for more than a half hour in some cases, the battery would not have enough charge to restart the car.  It could not be recharged, and would not hold a charge.

The new battery I have(not an Interstate battery, just a cheap generic one), works fine, as a battery should.  I have driven 1000's of miles with it already, and started my car probably more than 100 times with my new battery, without issue.

Prior to contacting BBB to resolve my complaint, I tried multiple times to resolve it through Interstate.  I have documented this and presented it in this complaint already.  I called the Interstate hotline and was given the run around, and they wouldn't honor their warranty. I dropped in at an Interstate battery seller, and they told me they couldn't help me under warranty without permission from Interstate, and declined to assist me in that effort, or to test my defective Interstate battery at that time.

on Friday 3:30pm, they close at 4 pm on 12/19/23 I bought an Interstate Battery from "*****" at NAPA on *********** in ********* ** for my farm tractor. Tried battery the next week in tractor and it would not start. Tractor would only click. Had my husband come check connections and it still wouldnt work. He took battery out and took to have it tested. They said it was a bad cell in battery. I went back to Napa after Xmas holidays because they were closed etc for holidays and husband works during hours they are open. ***** said go to dealer that it was a warranty problem. I told him, its not a warranty problem. You just sold it to me and it was bad from start. He refused to do anything and left me hanging. So I called around and found a dealer ************************** in Forest, ** to help me out. They were going to contact their distributor and get me another battery. The lady **************** spoke with got me another battery and when i left, she told me that was considered the warranty battery and i wouldnt be able to get another after this. That is ridiculous. The battery was bad from start, I need to get the 18 month warranty that comes with these batteries. They shouldnt be selling batteries bad from the start. Better business bureau wont help me make NAPA honor me a new warranty and told me to contact Interstate Batteries. How can I get a new warranty, when i was sold a bad one from the start.Poor business on Napa and hopefully Interstate will make it good.

I purchased a new battery 03/22/2022 - 21 months ago for my 90 year old mother's **** Escape (see attachment) Being my mother no longer drives (and I was sick) the vehicle sat for 3 weeks. When I tried to start the vehicle the battery was dead. I jumped the car to start it and drove it for 30 minutes to charge it ********** days later it was dead again, so I jumped it to get it running for the 2nd time. One week later 12/26/23 I brought it to the (********** **) Tire Kingdom store to see about replacing the battery (free 30 month replacement see attachment) *********** writer came out and did a voltage check on the battery and he said it was good and there was nothing wrong with it. I advised him I jumped it to get here and the 15 minute ride probably charged it back up. I proceeded to tell him by tomorrow it will be dead again. He insisted there maybe a drain somewhere within the vehicle, I insisted the battery originally went dead from sitting to long and at this point won't hold a charge. He proceeded to call the store manager (who left for the day) to see what they can do as far as honoring the warranty....Came back and told me they can not honor the warranty and there's nothing they can do. So here I am with a battery I had to jump 3 times and they're telling me it's good! I could not risk driving a vehicle that I know would get stuck somewhere. I wound up purchasing a new battery for $176.27 UPDATE: The new battery was installed on 12/26/2023 It is now 01/11/2024 I have had no issues with the new battery which tells me there is no drain on the battery when it's not in use. The battery that was replaced just went bad and the Tire Kingdom store just didn't want to honor the replacement warranty.I would also like to add I have been a customer of Tire Kingdom since I have been driving (****) My father purchased tires from *********************** when he started Tire Kingdom at the Farmers Market in *************** ** in the early 70's. In February 2021 I went to a tire and service center (this complaint is NOT against them). I bought a brand new battery. Nine months later the battery died. NINE MONTHS. I received a replacement only to have it die in THREE MONTHS. That one was replaced and NINE MONTHS later due to yet another defective battery I had to get a replacement. This one lasted a whole ONE MONTH! Now I'm sitting here with another dead battery. This is crazy!! I would like a refund. I'm working on getting a copy of the original receipt and other information. Something needs to be done so absolutely no one gets a defective battery ever. To get four in less than three years is beyond ridiculous.

I purchased a $289.00 12 volt battery for my big truck, from the store in ******* **************. After about 2 months the battery started losing charge as if it had a dead cell or something. We would charge it, and try to run it. It would last for maybe a day. And it gradually became weaker and weaker. So much so to the point, where the battery wouldn't even have to be hooked up to anything. We could charge it and give it a full charge, and as soon as we remove the charger, within an hour it was so low it would not turn a starter, and that's without anything hooked to it. Just sitting on a table with nothing hooked to it, and constantly draining. I tried to return the battery because it was still under warranty and the place in ******* ************** refuses to return the battery or make the warranty good. Every time I call, they either don't answer or I get an answering machine. I've left message after message, and I have yet to receive a return call. This is the last month now that the battery warranty is valid. They have put this off into the last possible moment, trying to keep from honoring the warranty. That's pretty shady if you ask me in no way to take care of your customers. Take a good guess if you think I'll buy from them again.

I purchased two batteries for my boat. When installed the batteries was defective and wasnt even able to start the motor. I have to drive 4 hours to take the batteries back for a refund and they will not refund my money and I said I have no choice but to have the batteries replaced with the same ones. Since the batteries never worked at the ****** I was forced to buy batteries that work great with no issues to use my boat. This is fraud company who just sells c*** batteries and then screws customers over.
