On June 26th my husband had a heart stress test done at Steward ********* facility. We were told that we had a $240 deductible that had to be paid at time of service. We paid that and once our insurance was informed we were told that Steward would be refunding that $240. Now its 3 months later and we are still being told they are reviewing the refund. While we are waiting for this refund we are getting bills from another sector of Steward saying we owe them over $200. All we want is our refund.Initial Complaint

I have had a bill come to me from steward about a hospital visit that I had last year and they messed and sent the information to the wrong p o box of my insurance and then they said they didnt pay but I have an explanation of benefits saying that my insurance provided a $7942.22 discount and then I would only owe $1814.77. my ************ (*****) payed about $4000 to the original $9756.99 because they were told that my primary insurance (****) hadnt paid and so they paid about $4000 to the total. But that math does not add up to everything. So I contacted them months about about that it needed to be fixed so they said they would take about 30 days to contact the insurance and get it fixed. Last month I revived a statement saying I still owed $4670.67 and so I called them saying I shouldnt owe that it should have been fixed and they put me on hold and checked and the lady said that there was a note saying it was a mistake and that I owed $0.00. Then yesterday 10/19/2024 I received another statement I still owed $4670.67. I am very tired of this and feel screwed over because I am now being told that it is going to collections on the statement.Initial Complaint

I was a patient for a medical procedure in March of 2023 with insurance. I was not billed correctly as it was a routine procedure however it was not billed this way which is causing me to receive a large bill. I have spoken to multiple people in patient advocate, and they assured me this was billed wrong and would get fixed by having them rebill the insurance with the correct medical procedure code. The Doctor even assured me it was supposed to be billed as a routine procedure and the hospital still billed in wrong. I now am receiving bills from a collection agency as it was never corrected and when I try calling patent advocate, I don't get any call back. I am so frustrated with the amount of time I have had to put into this with no resolution and now its gone to collections.Initial Complaint

I went to this facility to get a background check needed for my profession. I had to follow the instructions to get them the background to the * and did. I ****ed on the paper that the background check had to be direct copied to the *********************( it would not include a physical address as this is an electronic transmission). I waited about 1.5 months to see if they (obon) had received what they required. *hey did not. I called both Steward and the obon and Steward finally told me that it was not sent because I didn't list a physical address. I explained that I did **** that it had to direct copied to them and that I did **** that on the paper to which they claimed it was my fault for not checking to make sure the individual doing my send ****ed it on the computer as well. *he only thing the individual said to do was check my contact info and I did, it was correct. *his cost me a loss of a position and money. I overpaid Steward Medical for a procedure I had done on 7/29/22. I paid them $390.36 on 9//13/22 and my insurance carrier paid them the same amount on 1/12/23. I contacted ********* Medical on 1/25/23 which is where I had the procedure done explaining they were paid twice and requested a refund. I was told she was sending it to Steward Medical to issue the refund as soon as possible but that it would take 2-4 weeks to receive. I have called at least 15 times this year to Hawthorne Medical as I have no way of contacting Steward Medical directly. I have also visited the financial department at Hawthorne Medical twice only to be told the refund has been approved in the computer but no way to know when the check itself will be released to me. It has been almost a year and I find it totally unacceptable that I have not received my refund. I hope you can help. Thank you.Initial Complaint

I went doctor ******** on 02/22/2023 and the receptionist charged me $180.03. The insurance processed the claim and per my explanation of benefits my patient responsibility was $40 Therefore they owe me ******. I requested a refund April 28, 2023. They claimed it would ***********-8 weeks to receive the check. However, it has been 6+ months since I requested the refund. I have contacted them multiple times and they said the refund was approved in May 2023. Steward has not refunded me to this day and have no explanation as to why this has not happened. I am worried this will not be refunded. It is unfair for this medical practice hold a patients money. This is happening to multiple patients. I do not have any other balances due. When I call to request the status I am told there are patients waiting on more money. It doesn't matter if it is one dollar or a million dollars!Initial Complaint

I have been overcharged by Steward Health Care System for **************** Services. 1st visit $349.53, evaluation, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th visits, $267.11 each x 3 = ******; in Total $1,150.86. This is after insurance adjustment. Although, before my first visit I demanded to see their rates, their office rejected my request and advised me to check with my insurance company. My insurance company said they don't know until Steward sends the claims. This office overbills their services to the insurance company, and expects patient to cover the excessive invoice amount not paid by the insurance company as part of the claim. Steward is violating the False Claim Act and taking advantage from patients. I want a settlement on my balance. I should not be invoiced not more than $100 per visit.Initial Complaint

I HAD A PROCEDURE AT ************************** ON 4/27/2023 IN ******, ****. I OVERPAID ON THAT DAY ******. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET A REFUND SINCE END OF MAY AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME IT IS APPROVED BUT IS IN PROCESS. FIVE MONTHS LATER AND STILL NO REFUND. Services rendered on 6/19/2023 by St ****** *************** Payment demanded prior to services was not what is owed. Insurance has paid amount approved on 7/7/2023. On 8/15 I made inquiry as to refund of difference paid. I was told in fact there should be a refund, and the process was initiated. Called again on 9/12, confirmed there is a refund pending, but that it had not been REQUESTED. Why do I have to request a refund of money clearly owed to me. Ok acknowledge the refund due and process. 10 to 12 weeks. This is unacceptable. They had no problems immediately processing my payment. They should be able to refund what they owe me as promptly.
