On 11/16/23 I went to San Jose Funeral Home to make the final arrangements for my mother who passed away just 2 days prior. ***************************** was the person who I dealt with. I paid the full amount ($4,745 in two transactions- one for $4,000, the other for $745) on my credit card, and told ****** that there was going to be an over payment because the nursing home (*************************) informed me that they were sending a check in the amount of $745.I asked ****** how they would handle the over payment and she told me that it was simple because they would do a refund via my credit card. I trusted her and tended to my grieving family.The funeral was set for 12/4/23. On 12/11/23 I called San Jose Funeral Home and asked about the status of my refund and was told that someone would call me back. On 12/13/23, since nobody called me back as promised, I called again and was told that the Manager was busy with a family and that he would be available 12/14/23 by 11:00 am. On 12/14/23 near the end of the day, since I didnt get a call, I called again and spoke with ******. She said they were mailing a check and that I would get it within 10 business days. On 12/27/23 @ 12:19 pm I called and spoke with ******************* said she would pass the info on to ****** who was with a family at the moment. nobody called me back. on 12/28/23 at 4:00 pm I called and told ****** my patience was gone and shame on them for attempting to take advantage of me because of the tragedy. She emphatically denied trying to take advantage and assured me that someone would call me back. By 12/29/23 at 3:30 pm I had not received a call, so I called ****** again and demanded to know what was going on. She transferred me to ******. ****** immediately said "we mailed the check today," I told ****** "you guys already told me a check was mailed 2 weeks ago- how do i know your telling the truth." He was just silent. I told him I wanted them to send me an e-mail with the check number and info as proof. San Jose Funeral Home is obviously attempting to keep the over payment in hopes that my grieving family will not have the energy or attention to collect. They know that I am located out of state and that this is a big hassle for me. I feel that they see me as an easy target to keep money that is not rightfully theirs.
