- Advertising Review:
BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising. These claims come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges. BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers clearer to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.
On June 16, 2023 BBB contacted Daybreak Solar Power regarding advertised claims on their website https://daybreaksolarpower.com/. Advertised claims: LIFETIME WARRANTY/GUARANTEE. BBB Code of Advertising states, when advertising "lifetime" warranty or guarantee in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously disclose its intended meaning of the term "lifetime". BBB Code of Advertising states when using the term "warranty" or "guarantee" in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to the sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser's website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request. CLAIMED RESULTS. BBB Code of Advertising states, claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data. FREE INSTALLATION. BBB Code of Advertising states, an advertiser may use the word "free" in advertising whenever the advertiser is offering an unconditional gift. If receipt of the "free" product or service is conditional on a purchase, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously disclose this condition with the "free" offer (not simply by placing an asterisk or symbol next to "free" and referring to the condition(s) in a footnote.) The advertiser must not have increased the normal price of the product or service to be purchased nor reduced its quality or quantity. Whenever such an offer is made advertisers must make clear at the onset all the terms and conditions of the offer. ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFIT CLAIM of "Eco-Friendly Company". BBB Code of Advertising states, advertisers should not make broad, unqualified, general environmental benefit claims like "green" or "eco-friendly". Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits. CERTIFICATIONS of NABCEP certified Engineers. BBB requested Daybreak Solar Power provide substantiation that their engineers are NABCEP certified. BBB requested Daybreak Solar Power to provide substantiation for their advertised claims. As of July 13, 2023 Daybreak Solar Power failed to respond to BBB's request to substantiate or discontinue the advertised claims.
