It was not made clear to me that Bridget O'Toole was on the clock charging me for consultation on my husband's will when I called her. She requested a deposit of $2,500 when I came to visit her for the first time. My understanding was that at that time she would be hired as my attorney. I decided not to go with her and was surprised to receive a charge for 1.5 hours of consultation at $495/hour. I definitely understand that her time is money, and I will pay her $742.50 bill BUT I would like to make other perspective clients aware of this practice. I did not even know how much she charged. She said she does not advise clients of her hourly consultation fee because it all gets wrapped up and billed as part of the engagement. I definitely feel that a client should be told a lawyer's hourly fee and when that fee starts. I feel grateful that I did not go with this law firm.
