    Pattern of Complaint:

Beginning in August 2020 to date, the BBB began receiving complaints/customer reviews that exhibit the same pattern of complaint.

Complaints/customer reviews allege issues with door to door sales practices that include the cancelation policy not being explained. Consumer have also stated the door to door sales representatives knocked on doors in neighborhoods which have No Solicitation signage posted.  Consumers raised concerns about representatives not wearing face masks appropriately and not practicing social distancing when knocking on doors. When asked by HOA and residents to leave the neighborhoods, they refused.  Complaints/reviews were received while the company was an Accredited Business. BBB staff did reach out to the company and requested they sign the Standards of Conduct for Door to Door Sales policy which stipulates the acceptable conduct for door to door sales reps who represent a BBB Accredited Business. Unfortunately, the company refused to sign the agreement and resigned their accreditation.

Customer review from October alleges company has consumer sign by electronic signature without being able to review all documents first.

In more recent 2024 customer reviews and complaints, consumers are alleging the door to door sales representatives are making promising that are not being kept. Company will complete the consumer's 1st treatment but fail to show up for subsequent treatments. No calls or emails are returned when the consumers tried to reach the company until the consumer tries to cancel for breach of contract; then the consumer stated they are harassed.

I signed up for a pest control service with EcoShield. They came by my door and solicited my business with them. I had told them that I just let my last company go because they would not communicate with me when they were coming. Having a large dog I need to know when they will be there so I can put him away either outside or inside the home. They stated no problem they have a system for notifying customers when techs are on the way. On numerous occasions I would receive a text from a tech saying they could not service because a dog was outside. No call or text to say tech was on the way. This resulted in many partial treatments including no indoor treatment which I wanted and paid for. On the last occasion I was told by tech they could not service. I then called EcoShield customer service and cancelled my future services. They noted my concern. Later they tried to bill me for the service that was not performed and the balance of my contract which was set to expire in May 2023. I let EcoShield know they had breached the contract numerous times and I had allowed them to try to make things right those times. At this time I was finished allowing the breaches to continue and paying for services not rendered. Now they keep contacting me to pay this bill which I tell them I will not and why. When explaining why they state that I will need to talk to Customer Service which I have on more than one occasion. At this point I feel I have no recourse other than to let the BBB know and hopefully mediate.

      Hi Mary,

On 3/29/23 a Bi-monthly service took place. While we could not service the backyard, that can be resolved by scheduling a free follow up visit. The balance would need to be paid before we move forward.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 19993667, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

The company has filed collections on the full amount. They are not correct in that services were provided in a time frame given. The services they mention me needing to pay were not completed - no inside service and no service of the back yard. Given that they have already filed a collections claim I don't feel like their offer will suffice since they have now damaged my credit with an invalid claim. I have disputed this bill with them several times over the phone and made sure the dispute is recorded here as well. There is no local office that I can communicate with regarding service. This business' practices are incompetent at best and unethical at worst.

      Regards,

      Hi Mary,

We went ahead and waived the full balance of $340.99 as an act of good faith towards you. We do not wish to cause any further frustration on this issue. Please allow 10-15 business days for the 3rd party collections agency to update their records as well. There are no other charges and the account is closed.

First time company came by did not complete job, did not come back. They sent me a survey where I stated my dissatisfaction. No response was given. I called and they said someone would come out, no one came. Second time company charged me for service that was not performed. I have perimeter cameras around my home. No one was seen servicing our home. Cob webs covered our front porch and doorbell. Called multiple times. Last representative told me the charges will be corrected. I get a notice in the mail. Call back over ten times with no resolution and empty promises.

This company is fraudulent. They say they guarantee their work. they do door to door sales and the salesman said if i wasnt happy that i can unsubscribe. they came to my house once for service, it didnt work. they came a second time (free because they said they guarantee their work) and it still didnt work. I paid them for the first time they came, even though it never worked. They also came for a free termite inspection. i am a new home owner, and they told me i have termites and to treat it, they would charge $3,500. I was skeptical at this point and called two other pest control companies, BOTH told me that i didnt have termites. This is fraud. I then called the company to cancel my service. Next, they sent someone to my home for service (even though i had already cancelled). I sent that employee home and explained that i had cancelled. I did not recieve the service. Now - EcoShield is trying to charge me. They keep sending me texts and emails telling me to call them. I call, get put on hold for sometimes 40+ minutes. then get connected with someone from another country who takes down my information and tells me that someone will call me back within 24 hours. there is NO contact to the actual company. this is pathetic. it is a total scam. Now they are threatening collections, but there is no one that I can call.

An EcoShield sales representative came to my door offering bug/pest services. I agreed to have them do a one time service that day for $145. The service was performed as agreed to and I thought the deal was through. Unbeknownst to me what I signed was a year contract and not a receipt for payment. The company has been unwilling to close this matter without being paid and additional $200 or so even after knowing this practice is rampant amongst there sales representatives. I've spoke to now 4 different people and they're all based in the Philippines and are repeating the standard line of that I must pay them.

      Hello,

After reviewing your account we confirmed that you were notified on 9/20/22 through email and text for the appointment on 9/23/22. We did not receive a response from you to cancel the appointment. Generally, pest control companies will never recommend one time services, as they do not generate positive results. A barrier of product must be maintained throughout the year to keep you and your family safe from any unwanted pests. We have attached a copy of the Service Agreement you reviewed and signed. We wanted to clarify that it doesn't fall under a receipt of payment, as we only charge customers after a service is provided, and not after signing up.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution.]

The agreement with the salesman was for service on the day I he rang my bell and not for any contract obligation with this company. I got the service I paid for initially and knowing that I'm signing for payment on a cell phone is the bait and switch they're using. I do not want to do any business with this company as they have the recordings of my complaints to them about their conduct in doing business. I wanted and paid for one service. I did not want or intend to be in any contractual obligation to them for more than that one service. Had it been made clear to me that the service was for anything longer than that day I would of told the guy no thank you. Now they want to charge me for being deceived... go listen to my calls to their customer service department.

      Regards,

9-2-22 **** ******* This business was contracted to provide a monthly service. They failed to uphold appointment times that caused me to have to move all furniture in the home twice in 1 day to prepare for their service and did not show up. The areas treated were minimal and did not uphold what the rep stated. False advertising at its finest and they refuse to waive anything on their part. I have paid for the service provided and refuse to pay any additional costs. The rep Sam at ********** stated if I was unhappy with my service to contact the office and they would waive any fees for terminating the agreement. The manager I spoke with stated this could not be done and I was basically stuck with their terrible service.

I signed up with their sales agent who came to my home. He promised that the services included wasp control and pest control inside the home. They came to my home and the treatment did not work. I called them and they came back. The treatment still did not work . I still had wasps and pests. I called them four times and each time, their technician did not do a good job. I asked them to cancel the service. They turned around and said that I owed them a cancellation fee for the ‘premium services’ they had added on. They keep texting, emailing and calling me everyday to pay for this ‘ termination’ fee. How can a customer pay a company a termination fee for canceling a real bad service? Please help me resolve this

I had an appointment to get my house spryed by ecoshield. They never showed up, as I was at home the whole day. They sent me a text message saying the service was done. I promptly called them and said that nobody had showed up. I spoke to customer service and canceled everything, I was not going to keep paying $100s of dollars to not have services performed. They agreed to let me out of the contract. Well the other day I got a letter from a debt collector saying that I owed money for eco shield. I immediately called up customer service and eco shield says the account was closed out. I explained that I was getting letters from debt collectors and she swore to me that the account had been closed and was not turned over to a debt collector. I have went on Eco Shields Website and there are numerous complaints about technicians not showing up and accounts were turned over to collections. I would just like this taken care of
