Purchase house at **** Ruth St in the Historic Third Ward area of Houston Texas on June 22 2022. Real Estate Agent Camille **** recommended general contractor Shaun R*** to add a third bathroom, kitchen island, and convert the detached garage into a 1-Bedroom/1-Bath apartment. Shaun's business Service One quoted ~30K to complete these renovations within 4 weeks to begin on June 27th. Paid 50% down and agreed to pay 25% after 2 weeks and 25% upon completion in 4 weeks, but the project was nowhere near complete by then. We agreed that I would buy the remaining supplies needed and deduct those expenses from the remaining balance instead, so the expenses exceeded the remaining 25% and I didn't pay him more. After two months of Shaun pushing the completion timeline back as well as asking for more money, he stopped working on the project without completing the bathroom, installing the island, and only poured an uneven floor in the garage. He badly damaged the lawn as well as floors, left a pile of dirt as well as a muddy trench at the gate entrance to the backyard, and replaced the garage door with a poorly framed front door. This resulted in me paying another contractor almost $5K to complete the bathroom and install the kitchen island. While searching for a new contractor to finish the garage, I received a certified letter from Texcon Ready Mix addressed to Service One and Joshua Gray for almost $1K due to Shaun's unpaid claim for materials and/or labor, which threatens to place a lien on my house if payment is not made. Now I have to pay an attorney to address this issue and am filing this dispute claim to recuperate the money paid to Service One which will be needed to pay this claim, attorney fees, and new contractors to complete the garage apartment.
