Bettencourt Tax Advisors is a company that will try to charge you for a home that you DO NOT OWN and we have told them repeatedly. THEN have the audacity to send to send our unpaid $78 bill to collections. This company does not know how to properly manage their current customers. AVOID!Bettencourt Tax Advisors, LLC Response

Bettencourt Tax Advisors, LLC (BTA) has no written record of being notified that the property had been sold and no longer required representation. In addition, the Harris County Appraisal District did not update the property ownership information to show the home was sold on 2/17/23 until 9/28/23 which left the Assignment of Agent (AOA) in place naming BTA as the Fiduciary / Agent of Record in place. A Notification of Hearing was received and BTA appeared for the hearing. If HCAD had updated the property owner information timely our AOA would no longer have been valid and we would not have been allowed to proceed with representing the property. If written notification of the property being sold had been received from Mr. or Mrs. ******, as per our Service Agreement requirements, BTA would have terminated the Service Agreement, removed the AOA at HCAD, and not have been scheduled for the property’s hearing. When BTA was notified in October of 2023 that the AOA had been automatically removed from the property, we reached out to the client to verify the property had actually been sold and received no response from Mr. or Mrs. ******. Because customer satisfaction is of most importance to us, BTA has removed the $78 bill from collections, discarded the invoice, and removed the property from our active account list.Review from Sherry Lynn T

They no longer put in the work to lower our taxes. They did not help to reduce our TAXABLE amount due by one penny yet they send us a bill! BBB complaint is forth coming.Bettencourt Tax Advisors, LLC Response

BTA works very hard for every customer to get the lowest value possible for each property we represent. Your home had a noticed market value of $440,892 with an appraised value, due to the homestead exemption applied to the property, of $390,245. As you know, the homestead exemption limits the taxable value increase to a maximum of 10% each year to protect homeowners from large increases regardless of what the market is trending at. If the homestead exemption was not applied to your property, you would be taxed on the market value. Negotiations done by the BTA Property Tax Agent resulted in a decrease of the market value of $46,597, lowering the market value to $394,295. Because the final market value was $4,050 higher than the appraised (taxable) value a decrease was not achieved, but the market value was corrected which starts you out at a lower value for the 2024 appraisal. The invoice received was according to our service agreement of which you were made aware of and acknowledged by signature and was for the market value reduction of $45,597. Property Tax is based on the real estate market and unfortunately, for homeowners, the market was not kind in 2023 resulting in higher property values. BTA employees some of the most experienced and successful agents in the industry and spare no cost investing in technology to give our clients the best service we can provide. We do all our work in house and do not rely on overseas labor. like some of our competitors. Each account is reviewed and worked prior to agreeing to a settlement with the Appraisal District. Evidently they have confused us with someone else. We do not own a home valued as detailed above. Technology must not be as great as they represent. Not sure whose details they responded with, but I feel sorry for them too.Review from Natalie B

I can understand why there are a mix of reviews as the tax appraisal process naturally leads to a large swath of differing results given each persons unique situation. That said, Bettencourt has been an invaluable companion in my homeownership journey! Maria has proven time and again to be knowledgeable, on top of current happenings and willing to go above the call to do what she can to help me save anywhere I can.
