I stopped by for a diagnostic check for my vehicle on 10/30/23 11:54 am, after the check was complete the vendor recommended that I have the Torque Converter replaced , once I picked my vehicle up I was told that oil was in the intake and recommended that I take it to a general mechanic . I was allowed to drive my vehicle home and on the way home my vehicle wouldn't allow me to drive more than 20 MPH, I contacted A+ the next morning and asked could I take it to a shop closer to my residence. Once my vehicle was towed to the location off of 1092 in Stafford I was told that oil in the intake was causing the issue. My concern is 1) my car was not having these issues prior to me dropping my vehicle off on 10/30 2) notification of oil in the intake was not identified until after the repair of my transmission which brings a greater concern regarding my repairs . A+ Transmission has denied plausibility and has offered me no resolution to this new problem not existing when I initially dropped off my vehicle for repairs. The cost of repairs was $4,189.73 and now after taking my car to a general mechanic I don't have the financial means to pay an additional 1k to get the Throttle body removed and replaced. I feel as though I was victimized by A+ Transmission , I'm seeking either a reimbursement of the 4k or simply pay for the charges that have since been created with the Throttle body would be fair.

Mr. ***** brought his vehicle in due to drivability issues concerning the transmission not shifting correctly and the transmission/engine light illuminating on the dash.  After technicians finished our complimentary 22-point diagnostic service, which includes a test drive, computer scan and general check out of the vehicle, it was determined that his transmission was in fact slipping and had excessive wear and tear.  Mr. ******* 2018 Ford fusion had 245,365 miles at the time he brought it in to us.  We explained that the condition of his transmission and the engine running poor due to multiple engine trouble codes, was likely due to the high mileage on his vehicle. At its current mileage, most of the parts are well outside the car manufacturer’s normal life expectancy.  We are a Transmission Specialist repair shop and quoted Mr. ***** on work we felt comfortable handling in house, which he understood was just the transmission.  We then documented the multiple engine trouble codes (see attached) so that he could get them repaired at a mechanic of his choosing. The remaining issues with his vehicle were noted on his 22-point checkout and on the invoice he signed upon picking up his car.

Mr. ***** reached out to another one of our repair shops in Stafford on Murphy Rd. and explained the issues he was having with the engine running poorly.  The Stafford location performed their own independent checkout and determined his engine was running rough due to engine oil getting into his throttle body and intake manifold, by either way of the engine turbo or the PCV valve being worn out or needing to be replaced.  It is important to note 2 things:  1. this only happens after the part is worn out due to time and/or mileage, and 2. his engine trouble codes present at this time were the same ones present prior to us ever working on his vehicle at the North Houston Rosslyn location.  After taking time to thoroughly go over the repair process and what the technicians had to remove and replace during that process, Mr. ***** agreed there was no reason for our technicians to touch any of the parts he is having an issue with.

We understand the stress and financial strain a large repair like this can be and pride ourselves on providing the high level of customer service needed to make this process as smooth as possible.  However, we can not take responsibility for failing parts on Mr. ******* vehicle that were documented issues prior to the transmission repair, which are parts that only fail from time and mileage, and are not touched during our repair process. We have reached out to Mr. ***** and he has informed us that he is getting the engine repairs done at a general mechanic at this time.  We are willing to assist in whatever way possible and will extend the offer of free labor to install any parts he provides that are associated with his issue. We are ready to assist him at his earliest convenience.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

I spoke with Mr. ******** this morning to follow up to  his response to the BBB , I suggested that a payment of $1,100 would pay for the repairs that A+ transmission did not offer me while having my car and suggested that I go to a general mechanic ( noted on my receipt) for the repairs. Mr. ******** stated that the shop that repaired my vehicle overcharged me because it would have only cost me $500 in A+ shop (mind you this service was not offered while my car was actually in their shop) and that’s the most he would be able to help with is $500 which doesn’t resolve my issue. A+ transmission has gotten paid and I still don’t have my vehicle and am currently driving a rental for the past two weeks after missing a week of pay because I returned my rental thinking that my car was actually repaired… this whole ordeal has really placed a burden on me that I wouldn’t have believed possible before dropping my car to A+ Transmission 3 weeks ago

I spoke with Mr. ***** yesterday, November 16, about his vehicle.  He requested us pay for additional repair work he needs on his vehicle by another repair shop he chose to go to, ***** Automotive.  This repair work consisted of replacing the throttle body and cleaning the engine wire harness of excessive engine oil build up. These are the repairs we documented he needed when we completed his transmission job. He was aware he needed additional work that we do not perform which is why why we suggested he see a general automotive shop.  We charged him for a transmission repair and that is all that was performed. We did not charge him for any other engine work and are not liable for it.

I explained to Mr. ***** we are willing to help in whatever way possible.  In attempt to clarify the situation, I requested Mr. ***** email us an invoice of what he is being charged for at ***** Automotive. This is where several red flags appeared.  Mr. ***** emailed a generic invoice with ***** Auto Repair’s letterhead and address along with a breakdown of the charges.  After reviewing this invoice, it was clear something was not right.  The invoice number had been erased.  The charges did not add up to what our parts and labor guide suggest the amount should be for a similar repair.  In fact, it was more than double what it should be.  I informed Mr. ***** that the labor at its highest rate along with the throttle body only comes out to $520. (See attached)  The invoice he sent us and wanted us to pay was $2,210.61.(See attached).  To find out more information, I called ***** Auto Repair and spoke with their store manager Tony.  I asked him what the charges were for Mr. ******* vehicle and he said $1,072.61.  I asked him to send me a copy of the invoice so I could see what the discrepancies were from the invoice Mr. ***** had sent me.  The invoice directly from ***** Automotive looked completely different than what Mr. ***** provided. (See attached).  At this point, I personally went by ***** Auto Repair to speak with their manager Tony, General Manager Mark (JR), and their lead technician who worked on Mr. ******* car.  The store Manager and General Manager both agreed the invoice I was sent by Mr. ***** was not theirs.  The lead tech also took the time to go over the issues with Mr. ******* car and how they were not in any way associated with repair work we completed on his transmission.   I have documentation of all of this.  At this point, I feel we have gone as far as we are willing to go to assist Mr. ***** with an issue that is not our responsibility.  We stand willing and ready to assist him with any warranty issues concerning the transmission.

I asked Mr. ******** to pay $1,000  and he told me that he could only pay $500 as the shop is over charging me never mind the fact this his shop recommend that I seek repairs at a general mechanic? Why didn’t his shop repair my vehicle at that time , instead they got paid and let me drive my vehicle putting me in harms way on the freeway ,all this deflection from the

fact that my car I is worse  than when I took it in initially in October, I still don’t have my car and have paid out of pocket for a rental since .. totally awful experience with A+ Transmission I wouldn’t recommend them to a dead man

We are a transmission specialty shop that performed only transmission work to Mr. ******* vehicle.  We are not obligated to repair other problems with Mr. ******* car outside of the scope of work he was quoted for and authorized us to repair.  We simply recommended to Mr. ***** that he seek repairs for the additional engine issues he was having and that a general automotive shop would most likely be able to help him.  In no way did we suggest or imply that those additional repairs outside the work we quoted and performed would be our financial responsibility.  In fact, as previously stated, this was noted on Mr. *****s 22-point inspection, final repair invoice, as well as verbally told to him upon picking up his vehicle.

In good faith, I did notify Mr. ***** that we would be willing to help him with the additional repairs he needed having to do with the throttle body replacement.  To accommodate Mr. *****, when he visited our shop on Murphy Road, we suggested we could replace it with no labor charge if he purchased the part.  We also offered that if he would feel more comfortable, we could partially pay for the repair if he had another shop replace the throttle body.

After the Stafford (Murphy Rd.) store visit, Mr. ***** took his vehicle to a reputable shop named ***** Automotive.  Their technicians identified the engine issues and gave Mr. ***** an invoice of $1,070 to replace the faulty throttle body. They also verified it was a pre-existing issue in which the throttle actuator was worn out due to the 245,000 miles Mr. ***** has on his vehicle.  I asked the lead technician at Goose Automotive if the throttle body failure had anything to do with our transmission repair work, and he said no.  Still, I agreed to pay $520 to help Mr. *****.

Mr. ***** took ***** Automotives’ invoice and emailed me a manipulated version of it suggesting the price was really $2,210. What Mr. ***** did not know is that I was already in contact with ***** Automotive and had already received the real invoice of $1,070 from them.  Mr. ******* intention was to get our shop to pay half of the fake invoice ($2,210) which would be about the actual price of his real ***** Automotive invoice ($1,070).  Mr. ***** was willing to fraudulently manipulate another repair shop’s invoice and risk their reputation in doing so.

After working with ***** Automotive and their corporate office to uncover the manipulated invoice and fraudulent claims produced by Mr. *****, I respectfully decline to work on, or repair anything on Mr. ******* vehicle other than the work we originally performed that is warrantable on his invoice.  We stand willing and ready to make Mr. ***** a priority if he were to have any transmission trouble.

    Respectfully,

They were also documented on paperwork he signed acknowledging the repairs that we did complete.

I drove my vehicle to A1 transmission two months ago and a week later after picking my vehicle up I was unable to drive my vehicle home ultimately putting my own life in peril , A1 ran a diagnostic check on my car which required them to test drive my vehicle so at what time did my vehicle suddenly become undriveable ? Furthermore if these issues where present prior to me dropping my vehicle off why didn’t A1 diagnose or have the same issues prior to them working on my car? If the car was In such disarray why let me attempt to drive the vehicle home? Mr. ******** at one point offered to pay half of the costs of repairs or suggesting bringing my car back to A1 to fix the issue? If that was the case why not repair it before I picked it up? So much misdirection from what I once thought was a reputable company? Due to the ongoing process I’m not only requesting that A1 pay for the repairs of my vehicle ( it’s notes on my receipt that they referred me to a general mechanic) and a reimbursement of rental fees attributed to this victimization is not beyond reproach in my honest opinion?

    Regards,

    In response to Mr *****

Yes, your car was documented having engine issues prior to us working on the vehicle.  We documented it all and gave you paperwork to back that up. We quoted you for ONLY Transmission work we agreed to perform at our shop.  That is what’s on your paid invoice and that is all you were charged for.  We are not liable for other parts of your car failing due to high mileage.  Our technicians as well as the ones who currently have your car conformed the excessive engine oil buildup over time caused the issues you were having along with the failed actuator inside of your throttle body that was also oil soaked.  None of these are transmission related issues or remotely associated with a transmission repair in any way.

At the time I did agree to help you in good faith after you expressed having no more money to fix your car. I sympathized with that and felt I could help thinking your concerns were honest.  That was before you took it upon yourself to manipulate another shops invoice to make it look like their repair was more than it should have been in order to get us to pay more money than needed to help you  The shops invoice you manipulated (***** Automotive) is doing their own investigation Into what route they will take concerning the issue as both of our businesses have been effected.

In light of the resent findings of fraud, I respectfully decline to do any work outside of the transmission that you still have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty on.

If there is anything else you need on my end please feel free to reach out.

Can you provide more proof on your preexisting condition assertion as my vehicle was drivable on October 30 at 11:54 am and was not on the date I picked it up on November 4th? Hope automotive has no inclination on the operation of my vehicle prior to me dropping it off to them so any input from them would be clearly conjecture at best?

    In response to Mr. *****

You are correct that you drove your vehicle to us with several issues. You also drove your vehicle home after you picked it up with the remaining issues we made clear we would not be able to fix and therefore did not charge you for.

The condition report for your vehicle is attached.  This is an inspection all vehicles receive prior to our technicians performing any work on the vehicle.  Your engine trouble codes are addressed here along with the engine oil leaks and suspension concerns.  These are the repairs we specifically told you we do not perform at our shop and that we recommend you see a general mechanic to fix.  We are a Transmission repair shop.  We quoted you only on the transmission work you needed and only fixed your transmission.  We can not take responsibility for other parts on your vehicle failing due to high mileage.

Two independent shops determining the same diagnoses, that oil leaks from wear and tear over time and mileage are causing your issues, is not conjecture by any means. 1-These are engine oil leaks, not having to do with the transmission. 2- the engine oil build up over time is proven by the excessive amount of oil residue that was present on the wire harness and computer. 3-The throttle body actuator that failed is on the inside of the part and not accessible or touched during a transmission repair of any kind. These are the professional opinions of reputable licensed repair facilities you sought out.

Mr. *****.  Thank you for the opportunity to assist you with your transmission repair.  If you have any issues with the transmission in the future, please let us know.  We are here to help.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.

Interesting…. I was told after the Diagnostic test that my torque in the transmission was my issue, Danny mentioned nothing of an oil leak as I would have had the option to DRIVE my car to a general mechanic and then return to A+ for the transmission work is this was indeed the case , once I picked my car up Danny suggested that I see a general mechanic for the Oil leak . I left A+ Transmission thinking my car was drivable as it had been repaired and my car NEVER stalled on me until that ride home which is a normal 45 minute ride now became a two hour journey in which my life was at risk multiple times as my car would not accelerate past 20 MPH… once again my car has never operated like this prior to me leaving it in your shop , after reporting this to the BBB you and Danny asked me why didn’t I give you the chance to repair my car at A+? Why wasn’t this service performed before I picked my car up and risked my life driving it home on November 4th? It’s obvious you guys have moved on and I would like the opportunity to do the same by having my issues resolved, It’s ironic that this started the day before Halloween and now the Christmas season is upon us ? Maybe the Christmas spirit will bring forth a swift resolution?

I went in to A plus transmission to drop my truck off. I told them My truck drove and shifted fine but the transmission temp would run hot sometimes in traffic. They did a road test and said it’s shifted from park, reverse and to drive fine. They then told me they had to open up the transmission to find out what parts needed replaced. I ended up paying $5400 to rebuild the transmission from their recombinations. I picked the truck up on Friday and on my way home 10 mins from the shop it started running hot again ??. Took the truck back yesterday and now they are telling me it’s heating up because of a bad bypass valve on the transmission cooler lines. So I ended up paying for a new transmission for no reason and A plus is not accepting that. I did not go in there with any mechanical issues just running hot issues. I paid to rebuild all the mechanical parts and that was never the issue. I would like some kind of reimbursement and the longer extended warranty

Mr. ****** brought his 2020 F150 to our location stating that the transmission was overheating.  He said he would drive for a while and then have to pull over and turn off the truck for it to cool down before he could continue to drive it again.  This had happened several times between job sites during the day.

Our technicians performed the initial free 22-point diagnostic test and confirmed the vehicle's computer had stored memory and pending Transmission Trouble Codes confirming the transmission had overheated several times.  A fluid sample was taken from the transmission that displayed not only severely burnt fluid, but also metal contaminated and worn clutch material.  It was explained to Mr. ****** that this happens from a lack of lubrication that leads to the transmission not being able to cool properly. Burning the transmission fluid alters its viscosity and breaks down the lubricating qualities which excessively and prematurely wears down the internal parts.   An internal inspection was necessary, to not only determine the worn out and damaged parts, but also develop a repair plan for getting the transmission back to factory specifications and eliminate the cooling issues he was having.  Upon removal and inspection of his transmission, it was clear the internal parts had been damaged. The transmission Rebuilder made a list of the parts suggested to recondition the transmission back to factory specification.

Mr. ****** agreed to the suggested repair, and the reconditioning process was completed.  Before the vehicle was paid for and released, several test drives were performed to ensure the issues had been corrected.  Mr. ****** then picked up his vehicle.  He called about an hour later stating the transmission was having a cooling issue again.  We apologized for the inconvenience and assured him when he was able to bring the vehicle back it would be made top priority and get resolved at no charge under warranty.  If he did not feel comfortable driving it we would tow it in for free.

Mr. ****** brought his vehicle back the following Monday in which it was immediately received and diagnosed as have a cooling issue again.  Danny, the store manager suggested that it could be a thermal bypass valve that was not functioning properly as one of many possible solutions since we had already previously replaced the necessary internal damaged parts.  I spoke with Mr. ****** Tuesday 8/8/23 and let him know that we would replace the thermal valve, but also have to go through the transmission again and replace whatever parts were damaged by the overheating issue again.  This service will be performed under warranty at no charge.

At this point (8/9/23) the transmission was immediately removed from the vehicle and a teardown is currently being performed to replace internal damaged parts from the overheating again.  The original bypass valve has been visually inspected and determined to be in good working order.  A new valve was already ordered and will be installed as preventative measure.  We stand behind our warranty and are confident we will find the overheating issue shortly and return the vehicle to Mr. Tyrell with the transmission functioning properly.

Addressing the money back or extra warranty request Mr. Tyrrell had, I do not feel refunding money is a solution that will address his concern of the transmission still having issues after repair.  I do feel, however, that it is within reason for his warranty to be extended, as we truly want Mr. ****** to feel confident in our repair process.  We pride ourselves on top quality repairs and have a reputation for standing behind our customers and our warranty.  I would like the opportunity to show that to Mr. Tyrell by doubling the warranty from a 1 year / 12,000 miles warranty to a 2 year / 24,000 miles warranty on all parts and labor for the transmission repair.

We look forward to updating Mr. ****** later today with an explanation of the overheating issue and our solution to it.
