We hired brad Kirkland from make it hippy to do contract work for our flooring. He quoted me 4,400 to do the job at hand. We ordered our own flooring and paid for it. He insinuated that he place the order to have it shipped to our hike so he received points at the store. We had an issue with the flooring and we laid him 500 extra to fix the hole in the concrete. We received no contact or bill until we started asking about money and where it was going he then produced a "bill" that was over what we had originally agreed on. He bid the job take 3-4 days however it was over a week and a half after he left multiple times due to him saying he missed his wife. After he had received the final payment he then requested an additional amount for transitions and trim. We refused to pay anymore money and he decided that he wasn't going to finish the job. A few days later I noticed our toilet was leaking from where he had pulled it to put a new wax ring, he ended up having to replace it. He did make a run to fort worth to get more flooring for us due to his miscalculation and his partners cutting prices incorrectly. We were going to pay it but after that we decided that he wasn't getting anymore money from us. He stilll has not made it right nor has he been reasonable to contact insist his wife be the contact person.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/09/29) */ Thank you for contacting us on this matter as we would like to resolve the matter as well. Make It Hippy is owned by Brad K******* and myself Katie K*******. ****** ********* contacted us through facebook and the job was then set up and Brad K******* went to their home and went over details. The ESTIMATED price agreed upon was for carpet and flooring removal and floor installation only. Brad suggested they would need new trim or quarter round and we could install but that was never part of the first initial estimate. ****** mentioned many times that she had a certain budget so we made adjustments to our price of install to help accommodate her budget under the terms that they would clean and move furniture. However, we started the job and the first day nothing was cleaned or removed from areas where flooring was to be removed and replaced. Our time of cleaning, taking out trash, picking up diapers, scrubbing areas, and moving heavy furniture around multiple times in a day. All stated above was done FOR FREE. Make It Hippy has been in business 2.5 years, and we have bid every job Labor only, materials are NEvER included. Customer always pays for materials. The entire house minus bedrooms was more flooring than either of us wanted to haul so we suggested ordering from our account which we do get points for and had it shipped straight to their house. She agreed with the arrangement as we gave her the exact total and she did pay for the flooring. The square footage of flooring needed was more than the amount of flooring that was ordered. The helpers Brad had helped the first few days had miscut some pieces however we used almost all of the pieces in other areas. Our helpers were on the job less than 20 hours as Katie was on another job at the time. When I was finished, I would go with Brad as we work together 95% of the time. When removing carpet in the living room at huge crack was discovered. We had no knowledge of this issue. We talked to ******, and it was decided and agreed that we would patch the crack so we could continue to lay flooring. This was an unexpected situation that had to be fixed before we could continue laying the floor. This is way we give an estimate as we were anticipated the time and extra materials it would take. Again, we went and picked up materials and showed receipts so the customer can pay for the materials needed. The bottom of the pallet of flooring had 3 damaged boxes and we offered to use our vehicle and time (2 hours one way to the flooring store) to return and replace boxes as well as picking up additional square footage. The $250 spent of flooring was never paid by the customer so we told them that we would finish the job when the flooring was paid for. Yes, they had paid for the flooring to be installed however this was extra square footage that was not in the estimated bid and the flooring was not paid for so we would not install it until the flooring that we paid for out of our pocket was paid back. Brad had been in communication with ******'s husband and was cussed and at, called inappropriate names, and threatened so he then told both of them that they could talk to me. He provided my number, and I never received a call to resolve any issue in a professional way. We had no intent to not finish laying the few pieces of flooring (maybe 5 pieces). However, the issue of the flooring not being paid for had to be resolved before we finished, and everyone was aware of this. We try to be as accommodating and go above and beyond for our customers as we have always done this. We have many customers that can witness to this. For, this is the first customer that a problem was not resolved immediately. After we realized our effort to go above and beyond was not appreciated, we let them know they would have to get the rest of materials needed as transitions and other materials were needed. That is when we received the messages that they were upset. I have the messages, receipts, and pictures to back up all the information I have given on this matter. The offer was always still available that if materials were bought and paid for by the customers, the cleaning was done, and the flooring was paid for then we would finish the job. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/09/30) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I'm not sure what cleaning was needed to be done considering that all the floors were ripped out. We moved the heavy furniture, brad literally pushed a few couches over and moved the kitchen table (which he said he would do because I could not make it fit into the other living room). As far as cleaning picking up diapers and taking out trash, brad also used my trash can do fill up debris from the work site, my house was never dirty however we do have seven children living in the house and as estimated the job was suppose to take 3/4 days not a week and a half. I have brad ***** for his constant leaving mid-day Because he missed his wife or had other things going on that he insisted he take care of. When brad offered to go return the flooring I personally told him I would go and do it but he insisted saying he was going there anyways. The extra flooring was not paid for because you did not come and finish the job after we have paid you over 4,000 to do so. My husband and I did get angry and some things were said no denying it however when you pay that much for a job that isn't complete it is frustrating. We never deny Katie and brad do good work I think we just got a bad end of the deal due to them having other priorities going on and which I did offer to let him stop to presume the more important ones. I do not know everyone these people have done work for but I do know one that had complaints personally and we have had the same situation happen to where her husband finished the end job. The only thing we have not paid for his the extra flooring however we still have flooring not complete and it's a little more than 5 boards it's a whole closet and a few strips in my hallway. The material you had on the trailer was also dumped in my front yard when it should have been taken to the dump on your expense. I did give brad permission to put the carpet out there IF he called the city to pick up. He did not and I had to do so. I don't have any hard feelings for Katie or brad but in the end the job that was bid and paid for was not the same was before I when talking personally without anyone but myself and brad. I only received an invoice after the fact and after adjustments were made. Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2022/10/04) */ I am confused at the issue at this point. Brad was disrespected and threatened and should not have to be treated that way nor should anyone. He gave you and your husband my number so I could deal with the issue. I have NOT received any calls, text messages or e-mails from either ****** or her husband. He also let you know that the flooring had to be paid for before we would install the flooring. We NEVER said we WOULD NOT finish the job even after being threated and talked to the way he had by both customers. I have multiple pictures of the bathroom and other areas of the house having underwear, bath toys, towels, dirty laundry, urine all over toilet, sticky floors, dirt, food, trash and more. The area that we were laying floor had to be cleaned every time before we could install the flooring. We understand that kids are messy. We are just giving detail on the things that we had to clean before flooring could be installed. We give an estimated bid for a reason; you did not pay for anything that you were not aware of. We were not and still haven't been reimbursed for the flooring that we delivered to your house. We had agreed before purchasing with ****** and her husband that we would be paid back for the flooring. The estimated time to complete the job was an estimate. The extra square footage, the cracked foundation and the time spent cleaning and moving furniture were all factors in the extra time it took. Yes, it took longer than anticipated however that it out of our control. We only work until 3 because we have other obligations in the afternoon. I'm not sure why this is stated in ******'s response as she said that she offered to allow us to take off for other priorities however we did not do that. As far as the trash goes Brad offered to haul the trash off as a favor. We never stated the trash would be taken to dump. The CITY picks up bulk items for EVERYONE in our city. You do NOT have to call they pick up items daily. I personally put some flooring in your trashcan. It was already full, so I put a few pieces of old gross flooring that were taken out of the pantry in it. We did not take it out that particular day however we took it out other days. We did this job at a discounted price for ******. She was also provided the invoice with receipts. They were not over charged or charged for anything they were not aware or approved of. We did not charge for multiple services we provided as other companies would have. When we let ****** and her husband know we would not be purchasing the trim, transitions or other materials to finish the job as we had not been paid back the $250 for the flooring, both became hateful and angry. Like I said I am not sure of the issue. We never said we would not finish the job. ****** states that we do good work and there are no hard feelings. I am not sure what other resolution we can come to. We never received an apology nor any phone call regarding any issues. As I said before and both customers are aware that we would not lay the rest of the flooring until we were reimbursed for the flooring that was needed to finish the job. The original estimate Brad and ****** had agreed upon was an estimate for the install of the flooring with them doing the cleaning and moving of furniture. It did not cover any issues that were unforeseen or the install of the trim or quarter round. I hope this gives a better understanding. Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2022/10/06) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Overall this business agreement wasn't as it should be and I'll accept responsibility for not knowing how these things work. Im simply frustrated that we have paid a little over 4,000 for the work to be done and it's not complete regardless of the 250 for extra flooring that wasn't received 1) brad said he was not coming back because he thought we weren't going to pay him, however that was not the case and I even texted him stating that once it was complete I would finish paying it. I never once denied that But because Brad didn't come back and finish you didn't receive it. If you are going to run a business for construction you might want to make sure that your clients know that you do not move ANY furniture, (simply pushed couches over) and that you charge for everything extra. We only received invoices after the fact and the prices were raised weather you want to admit it or not, you were not there for the original agreement like I've stated before. We are know responsible for finding someone to come complete our flooring and fixing places that were messed up. As said above I did not call Katie because I did not make the deal with Katie, and as I told Brad He needed to be the one to contact to get things straightened out. Actually you do have to call the city to pick up baulk and I know that because I had to do it myself after the trash had sat in our yard for a week, they do pick up at pick stations. I'm so sorry that you felt threatened by my husband but sometimes frustration gets the best of people. I however did not say anything rude or untrue. I would prefer to get 450 dollars back to pay someone else to finish out flooring and lay the trim and however if you want the 250 let's just say 250 back so we don't have any issue further. As frustrated as this has been I have not once spoken bad about your work to others, or how you work and neither has my husband. We didn't see this issue being resolved just talking Because brad doesn't want to speak to us and that is fine but I have an issue talking to someone who wasn't there for the first half of the job. Business Response /* (4000, 14, 2022/10/14) */ We make the agreement simple. Your husband wanted to pay the full amount for the flooring to be installed. Your husband chose to pay the full amount as we have always intended to finish our work. The materials are paid for by our customers ALWAYS. We do not want to make anything confusing. I (Katie) do all of the paperwork and know everything that goes on with our business as we are both owners. I may not have been there all of the time or when Brad told you before the job started however, I am aware of everything that was said and agreed upon. Brad stated that he would not be communicating with you or your husband after being cussed and threatened so he gave you my information to resolve the issue. The materials had to be paid for as we do not pay for them. We had made the trip since it was in my name. ****** our clients know what is going on as we over communicate. You were not charged for moving any furniture or cleaning. You received the invoice for the price you were told the flooring would be installed for and all receipts for the materials that were bought. I have gone over everything. We did not over charge you and tried to help as much as we could to keep the job under your budget. As well as the unforeseen huge crack in the foundation and the material that was needed to fix the problem. I know you originally talked to Brad however he told you and your husband that you would need to communicate with me (Katie) as communicating with Brad was not resolving anything. The city picks up trash without calling them as I double checked and have used this service many of times. We will not pay any of the money back as we were not offered to finish the work over the payment of the flooring. The flooring had to be purchased to finish the job. We asked we be paid back for the flooring and was then treated unfairly. We go above and beyond for our customers. We never stated that we would not finish the job nor were we offered the chance to do so. I believe the issue could have been resolved over a phone call instead of insulting text messages. I know everyone gets frustrated however Brad did not receive a sorry and was not going to be treated that way any longer. Consumer Response /* (4200, 16, 2022/10/18) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) So at the end of the day you have been paid in full (minus what you have paid for the extra flooring) because a.) no one came back to finish the day after) and b.) you have said you would not come back after feeling threatened and being cussed at). At the end of the day the job was paid in full to lay the flooring which is still not complete. The cracks in the living room was paid for materials and for the job, and you can keep coming back with the Furniture but that was NOT discussed, to which you pushed couches around. At the end of the day the costumer is not satisfied and has given you the money you needed up until the trim that was a miscommunication is what I'm chalking it up at this point. I hope for the future you work better with your costumers and make sure that they know everything to the t because that was not the case on our situation regardless if you think so or not. I'm saddened that you would not fix what is needed or give the extra money back so we could get someone to do that however that is your choice and I hope you do better with the next set of costumers Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2022/10/19) */ We never said we would not come back and finish the job as I have stated multiple times. The flooring install and the money for the foundation was paid for in full. I still have not received a call or text message to handle the situation in which customers were upset. We were not upset and asked to be paid for the material before we would install. I have only mentioned the furniture because you have brought it up in every comment. However, I keep responding with you WERE NOT CHARGED FOR so that is settled. In your response you stated that you were satisfied with the work that had been done, however when it came to paying for the materials it caused you and your husband to become upset. The issue could have been fixed with a phone call or even text message. I am equal owner in the business and worked on the job and know everything that had been done and discussed. Communication with Brad was not fixing anything that is why we do everything we can to handle any issue with our customers. If you will look at the invoice and go over text messages the trim was never part of the original bid, and you were not overcharged. Your husband said he would do the trim and then stated we could and then went back on his word which was fine. Trim or quarter round is expensive however it is something that has to be done to seal the flooring correctly. However, when Brad made the original estimate that did not ever include install of the trim, it was for the install of the flooring only. We still have not been contacted about finishing the job so we will not pay for something that we were not given the opportunity to finish first. Every one of our customers have been more than satisfied and most have become family. I am aware that you have spoken to others about our work, and I can assure you that they will state that we did everything we could to make sure they were satisfied. Communication is key in any situation, if it is not being resolved with one owner of the business than we give every opportunity to talk to the other so it can be resolved. I am sorry you are saddened by a situation that could have been resolved over a phone call or message. Consumer Response /* (4200, 20, 2022/10/20) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Like I said, I'm finished with this back and fourth limbo becuase it's pretty clear we won't ever agree to what is suppose to happen. Keep the money we've paid. It is what it is. Just better luck in the future. Business Response /* (4000, 22, 2022/10/21) */ I did state I did not want to go back and forth. You are the one that started this discussion with no opportunity for resolution. The opportunity has been available to talk face to face and you chose not to however, we can't get a phone call or text either. If we were given the chance to finish the work we would however communication is an issue on your side. God Bless y'all and please understand we always make sure to go above and beyond to take care of our clients. Your family is no different. Consumer Response /* (2000, 24, 2022/10/24) */ (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
