Purchased a new Traxxas Ultimate Rustler 4x4. Within the first 10 minutes it burned through a spur gear. Went to the hobby shop, hour drive and they gave us the wrong replacement. After another 2 hours of driving we got the correct replacement. Installed it according to the manual, and 5 minutes later it has ate another gear. For $500 plus, it shouldn't be 5 minutes and then replace parts. It wasn't abused. It was ran in accordance with recommendations , and I've now spent 6 hours of driving for 10 minutes of use. This is unacceptable. Traxxas, before you come at me with your form response that is not only disrespectful, but laughable, put some thought into it. I'm going back to the hobby shop tomorrow, another 2 hours of driving, and will be attempting to return this POS. Is this truly the legacy you want me to represent on social media for your "quality" of product? I purchased this as the beginning of a new hobby. I also purchased a new ** car from your competitors based on price for my 9 year old, at half the price. It is still running amazingly. This is an absolute disgrace on the traxxas name, that used to be a staple of the the ** community

We are sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with your recent Rustler 4x4 Ultimate purchase! Spur gear failures are not a common issue and are usually caused by something other than the gear itself, such as a loose slipper clutch or a bad bearing. If the store is unable to assist or resolve your issue, please let us know. We are happy to help and can send replacement parts or arrange to have the Rustler sent in for repair by our technicians.

I am rejecting this response because:

When purchasing such an item, it isn't a reasonable expectation to be fiscally responsible for repairing what they ent out broken. I have lost all faith in this one revered brand. I have learned in forums that the self upright feature seems to be the culprit, and that there is a metal upgrade opportunity that I'll look into.  But to literally allow this type of failure to hit the shelves, is a disgrace. I wrote the reseller who was kindly willing to try and assist more, but my time and money that I'll willing to waste on a failed product, has come to an end.

Perhaps in the future I'll try the xmaxx, the flagship model, which was my original plan, but with the issues I've had with this so far, there are other brands with better customer service.

      04/18/2024

The customer placed an order on ************************** on Saturday March 30, which was shipped same-day via the expedited shipping method chosen at checkout. Unfortunately, the customer was misinformed on the delivery estimates for expedited packages and expected it to arrive sooner than was advertised. Expedited shipping on Traxxas.com specifically states orders will deliver in 2 -3 business days and will not deliver on weekends. Since the order was placed on a weekend the shipment day is considered Monday 4/1, and the delivery estimate from *** was 4/3, within the advertised 2-3 business day window shown during the checkout process.

We attempted to explain this during several calls with the customer on 4/2 between 9 and 10 am Central Time; however, were unable to provide these details before the calls were ended.

The customer then stated via email they had disputed the payment transaction with their bank. Due to this, we recalled the order and had *** return it to our facility. On 4/8 we processed a refund for the customer minus the shipping charges.

Terrible customer service. Purchased 2 Latrax Rally. Ran great the 1st 2 times but we wanted a more powerful longer lasting battery. So I ordered 2 directly from Traxxas that they listed as the replacement for the Rally. Swapped out one battery and the car went from going 25 mph to 8 and smelled something burning. Requested a refund on the batteries and the answer was nope, you opened the box. Both cars are now damaged now too as they swore up and down that it was the correct battery. I've Purchased several Traxxas models over the years but never will again.

      Business response

      03/26/2024

We are sorry to hear the customer had a frustrating experience with their recent purchase. The battery purchased by the customer, part number *****, is compatible with the LaTrax Rally. Unfortunately, the customer experienced a motor failure shortly after using the replacement battery. This was simply a coincidence or bad luck, not caused by the replacement battery itself. While we do not offer refunds on items once they have been opened and used, we did offer to send the customer a replacement motor free of charge to get their Rally running again. The customer chose to decline this offer.

      Customer response

      03/26/2024

I am rejecting this response because:   The same thing happened on both of my LaTrax Rally cars, 1 with each of the 2 batteries that Traxxas claims works with these cars.  That is not a coincidence, that is a problem

      Business response

      03/27/2024

We have no record of a reported second motor failure, only the single issue with the one vehicle. LaTrax Rally is one of our most popular entry-level models and the only battery we offer for sale is the one purchased by the customer. Thankfully, that battery is fully compatible with these models. We closely monitor reports of product failures and motor issues overall are simply not a common occurrence with either the factory battery or the optional replacement pack.

      Customer response

      03/27/2024

I am rejecting this response because:   No resolution offered.  I have already returned the damaged cars via the method of purchase. I want a refund for the batteries plus shipping at the price I paid.  Considering your reviews and BBB rating, I do not believe you nor does it even remotely make sense when it happened to both cars

      Business response

      05/15/2024

While we appreciate the time taken to provide feedback, we disagree with the opinions that no solution was offered and the battery is not compatible with LaTrax Rally. As explained previously, we do not offer returns on items once they have been opened and used; however, we did offer to replace the failed motor completely free of charge. Furthermore, LaTrax Rally has been a popular model for nearly 10 years, and the only compatible replacement battery ever offered is the one purchased by the customer. There is simply no compatibility issue.

      Customer response

      05/15/2024

I am rejecting this response because:   They took no accountability for the issue and offered no monetary solution.  They only offered a new motor which their battery destroyed.  This aligns with numerous other complaints made against them.

      Business response

      05/16/2024

Brand new Rally cars (3) Charged as instructed, runs only 8 minutes **** 3 minutes for two cars. I was informed by customer service once I called in that **** minutes is average run time. None of these details are anywhere in the description of items previous to purchase. In fact, the description states longer battery life. They are aware of the issue and continue to sell leaving pertinent information out hiding from the consumer details about the product they sell.

      Business response

      01/08/2024

We are sorry to hear the customer was disappointed with their recent purchase. The average runtime for these models is usually in the 7 10-minute range. Many customers choose to purchase additional batteries to extend runtime beyond that included in the box. Traxxas models carry a 30 day warranty on the electronics for manufacturing defects. From the description provided by the customer the models are running normally. Unfortunately Traxxas does not offer refunds on items once they are opened and used.

      Customer response

      01/17/2024

The complaint I have is there is nothing stated in the product description regarding the dismal runtime of their product.  If that pertinent information was included- in short- said product would not be purchased by consumer for such an exuberant price. Nothing in the description states that run time is **** minutes ( the numbers keep changing from company).  It does state that it has a longer battery life.  It is very misleading to the point that it is an outright lie.  There in is my complaint.  And how would a consumer know unless the box is opened and used to know the dismal runtime of said product.  Leaving their policy of if the box is opened or used rather ridiculous.

      Customer response

      01/17/2024

I am rejecting this response because:   There is absolutely no product description of dismal runtime of said product.  As well as there is no way to know of dismal runtime until box is opened and the car model/type is used. For the short dismal time it runs.  Leaving your policy laughable. It is misleading, or better put, an outright lie with your longer battery life description in the product description.  There is a lack of integrity and honesty with your company.   Put in the pertinent information so customers have a chance to not fall prey to the deception of false description of product.   Also, longer battery life does not mean that customer should purchase more battery packs.

      Customer response

      01/17/2024

Also two of the cars run time is 3 minutes.  Max.  Total.  Out of the three cars purchased.  The third ran 8 minutes.

We are sorry to hear the customer has experienced an issue with their LiPo batteries. Traxxas LiPo batteries carry a warranty against manufacturing defects for one year from the date of purchase. When the customer contacted ********************** on 8/8/2023 at around 1:30 PM CT they stated the batteries were purchased in May of 2022, putting them well outside the warranty period. The representative informed the customer the batteries were not eligible for warranty replacement but could be replaced at a reduced cost under the Traxxas Battery Replacement Program. After being provided a quote for the 7 replacement batteries the customer indicated they would call back when they were ready to set up the return authorization.

If the customer was mistaken and can send the batteries in with a proof of purchase showing they are within the warranty period, we will be happy to evaluate them for possible defects and replace them if covered by the warranty. Otherwise, the Battery Replacement Program is always available to replace Traxxas LiPo batteries at a discounted rate regardless of age or cause of failure. If the customer wishes to set up a return authorization or has further questions or issues, we are available to help. We are based in ***** and available toll-free (within the US) 7 days a week, 8:30am 9:00pm Central Time, at 888-TRAXXAS (872-9927)

I am rejecting this response because: Some were purchased outside of the 1 year warranty. I purchased a $500 Boss unit for my son's Christmas present. It broke the first day after 5 mins of use. The sent a replacement part which broke the same day and they reluctantly replace it and said if it happened again I would need to buy the metal pieces instead of the plastic ones. Their customer service employees both told me to basically go to **** in a hand basket. After buying the replacement parts the axle has broken twice and they refuse to supply me with a part which will hold up under normal driving.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/07/29) */ We are sorry to hear the customer had a frustrating experience with their Hoss and appreciate the time taken to provide feedback about their experiences. The Hoss, and all Traxxas models, are "hobby grade" Radio Controlled models. This means the models are completely serviceable by the end user. Unlike toys purchased from a big box retailer, every part and component can be replaced by the customer to restore the vehicle to full working condition. Thankfully, the Hoss is anything but fragile; however, with the high powered battery setup purchased by the customer, it is certainly possible to break parts through wear and tear or impacts without any inadequacies in the product being present. This vehicle was designed based on the legendary Slash 4x4 VXL, which has a long history of durability and reliably stretching back over a decade. Similar to full-size high performance off-road vehicles, how the model is used and driven will largely determine how long parts last before requiring replacement. The parts never simply fail, there is always something like crash damage involved. Damage is also cumulative and even if a part did not break in all the previous crashes the damage on the part is still there. When it is damaged enough it will break. To date, we have provided the customer with a variety of replacement parts at no cost, as a customer courtesy, to help keep their Hoss running. Purchasing replacement parts and performing repairs are simply part of being successfully involved with this hobby. Running a 3 cell LiPo battery, as purchased by the customer, means the vehicle is capable of speeds in excess of 60mph and advertised as a skill level 4 or 5 model, depending on setup. This means: Skill level 4: Previous experience with radio controlled models is mandatory. Models require detailed setup, and/or maintenance procedures with required support equipment. These models are capable of very high speeds and require an even higher level of skilled driving control." -or- Skill level 5: For Expert Drivers Only. Previous experience with nitro-powered radio controlled models is required! These models, capable of extreme speed and acceleration, are intended for expert drivers only. There are several things that can be done to reduce the wear and tear seen by the model during use. Activating Training Mode on the VXL-3s speed control will reduce the speeds and, by extension, the parts broken during use. The customer could also run a 2s LiPo. We have also advised the customer on proper maintenance and procedures for running in wet conditions. Unfortunately, we do not cover driving style, crash damage, part longevity, wear and tear, etc., but are happy to help get the customer whatever parts are needed to keep their Hoss running. They can order parts from Traxxas.com, call and speak with our customer service staff who can help identify broken components if needed, or visit a local hobby shop. The local dealer is usually the fastest way to find replacement parts, and as one of our best-selling models many stores will have parts in stock for the Hoss.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/01/11) */ We are sorry to hear the customer experienced a delay in the availability of their replacement speed control. Unfortunately, global logistical challenges have created some minor delays in our ability to restock our most popular products. Out of stock items are typically already on the way and arrive soon after the backorder is placed. In this case, the customer's repair arrived at our facility on 1/3/2022, and the replacement shipped to the customer on 1/7/2022.

Purchased a vehicle from traxxas and got it shipped to my town hobby store, Took the truck home and the following day took it out of the box and it took it for a ride around a grassy area with a concrete level fire lane, as I'm driving the thing one of the sway bar links came off the truck causing it to roll out of control causing damage to it. After checking the root cause of the issue, I found that traxxas manufacturing plant failed to properly assemble the part causing it to fail. All I want is traxxas to be responsible for their lack of quality control and to replace the parts damaged due to a improper installed part

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/27) */ We are sorry to hear the customer experienced a crash with their new Unlimited Desert Racer. It is important to note, this is a specialized vehicle purpose-built for loose, low traction off-road surfaces such as sand and soft dirt. Running on-road or in high traction conditions such as grass can make the vehicle difficult to control at high speeds with the solid rear axle, leading to possible roll-overs and crashes. The instruction manual specifically advises: "The locked solid rear axle will allow smooth power slides on loose surfaces for sharper turns and an authentic driving experience. For best on-road performance, slow the truck when turning and apply throttle gently until you become familiar with driving your model and the surface conditions." It is simply possible the sway bar popped off during a crash. We have offered to replace the part believed by the customer to be improperly assembled; however, we do not replace cosmetic items damaged in the course of running a model. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/28) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The vehicle lost control after the sway bar came lose not only I heard it so did all the people near me and we notice the vehicle get down on one side prior to roll the area we used is specially designed for this vehicles I have been in the hobby for 31 years so experience is not in question here have had many other vehicles with locked axles and never had an issue this simply comes to poor quality control from your company after getting into it more deeply your diffs came with no lub your shocks were dry and no lock tight was placed in the bolt that the pinion gear is suppose to have to stay attached luckily decided to check prior reusing the truck as it was already coming lose. The roll was provoked by improper installment of the sway bar as it was not in the SLOT you guys drilled to pass *** bolt trough on either side and yes I have. I want a full refund you can keep the ****** work your company does Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2022/01/05) */ Respectfully we disagree with the customer's opinions about the likely cause of the crash. We do not offer refunds on items that have been opened and used; however, we do stand behind our products. If the customer feels the vehicle is somehow defective the next step is to send it in for evaluation. Our repair technicians will resolve any manufacturing defects, if found, per the warranty on the product. The customer simply needs to contact us at their convenience to arrange a return authorization. We are available toll-free (within the US) 7 days a week, 8:30am - 9:00pm Central Time, at 888-TRAXXAS (XXX-XXXX), through live web chat during the same hours on Traxxas.com, and 24/7 via email at *******@Traxxas.com. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2022/01/06) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Of corse you disagree because you have no accountability on your end you just pass *** blame always to the customer event thought it your issue. Never had any issues with any other company other than traxxas, Arrma cares about their customers and fixes the issues losi team as well. I'm sending the car for a full refund and if you don't I will just follow up with a layer and take this to the court of law as it's ridiculous that you don't assume any of your mistake and take accountability for your wrong doing.

I bought a remote control vehicle from traxxas, 1st day an electrical part called a servo broke. I bought new and upgraded servo made by traxxas. Installed it and soon after it went out. I contacted traxxas and they replaced it under warranty. This happened 4 more times. I contacted traxxas and they had me to ship the RC car to them at my cost ,$100. They sent it back repaired. I ran it for a few minutes and it went out again. I contacted traxxas again. They said to send it back their cost. Told them that it was only a few Months old and has been broken or being shipped back and forth to them more than I had driven it. At this point the motor went out, ( they replaced) the ESC, (electrical) went out, (they replaced it) several other part have broken and they replaced them. I finally agreed to ship it back for repair again. Told them to test drive it before they sent it back to make sure it works correctly. 4 weeks later again they shipped it back. Took it out of the box and drove it and could hear a gear popping in the rear of the car. (Wasn't doing that when I shipped it to them). I contacted them about it and was told to try to repair it myself using a part that I paid for. $65 and 2 weeks to be shipped. That didn't work. Ordered another part, $65 and 2 weeks to be shipped, that didn't work. Ordered another part, no help. Took it to a hobby shop, they couldn't repair it. At this point its over 6 months old and have only driving it a few times because of being shipped back or waiting on parts to repair it. Contacted them again and was told to ship it back at my cost, wait 4 more weeks to return it, and they said that they wasn't sure if warranty would repair it. It's a lemon. The RC cost around $1000 not counting the batteries and the charger that i had to purchase. ($500). The parts that traxxas has replaced and the cost of parts that I have paid for is double than the cost of the RC. I want the RC replaced. Its a lemon.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/12/03) */ We are sorry to hear the customer had a frustrating experience with their X-Maxx purchase. Traxxas electronics carry a 30 day warranty from the date of purchase against manufacturing defects. The physical parts of the X-Maxx, such as the drive line, do not carry a term warranty; they are guaranteed to be free from defects when new. Traxxas models are high performance "hobby grade" radio controlled models. This means every component can be replaced with factory new parts to repair a vehicle. Unlike toys purchased from many big box retailers that cannot be repaired, there is never a situation where an entire Traxxas vehicle needs to be replaced to restore it to good working condition. To date, we have resolved all known electronic issues with this vehicle, including beyond the manufacturer warranty period, due to the customer experiencing several unusual issues. Unfortunately, the challenges of supply in today's world did cause some unforeseen delays in our ability to provide some replacement parts, which we also take into consideration when making warranty replacement decisions. Usually, repairs are turned around within a few business days, plus shipping time. Part of being involved in the hobby is repairing and maintaining the vehicle when parts wear out or break. Similar to full size high performance off road vehicles, the mechanical parts of the vehicle are considered "wear and tear" items and will require replacement from time to time. It is also important to note, the X-Maxx is a large vehicle with many heavy-duty parts, and sometimes there can be mechanical sounds from the gears or drive shafts that are not actually an issue at all, simply the parts moving against one another. In our last correspondence the customer reported a popping sound and stated quote "Basically everything in the truck has been replaced", which makes further troubleshooting difficult. Due to the customer's concerns, we have sent another return authorization for the customer to send the vehicle in for evaluation. If the technicians determine there is a defect in the parts not discovered in the previous repair it will be resolved free of charge, or repair services will be offered, depending on what is found in our inspection. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2021/12/06) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I Shipped my xmaxx back to have the servo replaced and to find out why it keeps going out. I told them to test drive it because just because it worked doesn't mean it will last. They sent it back after replacing the servo. I took it out of the box and tested it on my track and noticed that there was a loud popping in the gears that wasn't there when I sent it to them. After several attempts to find the problem nothing I did would resolve the popping noise. I contacted traxxas and explained the problem, they told me to send it back (at my cost).I told them that I had already sent it to them twice and refused to pay shipping on it again for a problem that wasn't there when I sent it the 2nd time. That said I havnt been able to drive it to find out if the servo problems have been corrected. I and traxxas have replaced 6 servos in just a few months. Including a motor, esc, and several other parts. Nothing we have tried has resolved the problems and now it can't even be tested because of the popping in the gears that wasn't there before I sent it to them. In the beginning I just wanted it repaired so I could drive it but after several failed attempts and now thus new problem I feel like it should be replaced. I've had it for over 6 months and havnt had more than a week of enjoyment from it.ive had to buy other rc vehicles just to be able to participate in recreational fun with my friends while waiting on my xmaxx to be repaired. At the moment it is still sitting on my work bench broken. Theres been more money in parts to try to resolve the problem than what a new xmaxx would cost new. Its a lemon. Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2021/12/09) */ We do acknowledge the customer had some unusual failures with their X-Maxx, and worked to resolve those issues, including outside the warranty period. Thankfully the vehicle is not a lemon. The customer received their repaired model back on 10/4/2021, after being thoroughly tested by our repair technicians. Everything was in good working order when it was shipped back to the customer. We do not have any record of reports of further issues until 11/21/2021. Unfortunately, nearly two months later, it is possible to have a part fail without there being any defects in the vehicle or oversights by our repair technicians. We are happy to help with any service the customer may need on their X-Maxx; however, at this point the best option is for our technicians to inspect the model to determine what is wrong since the customer has indicated that all the possible causes of the noise have been replaced. Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2021/12/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The reason it took 2 months to complain about the popping sound im my xmaxx was because I wanted to see if I could repair the problem myself. I knew that if I contacted traxxas that they would want me to send it back AGAIN and wait several weeks for it to be repaired and sent back, not to mention that it will cost me almost $100 to ship it. That would have been the 3rd time sending it back. I ordered a new rear differential gear and had to wait almost 2 weeks for it to arrive, that didn't fix the problem. I ordered a new front lower bulkhead and waited for it to be shipped, that didn't fix it. I contacted traxxas and they said that its probably the center differential, I ordered a kit to rebuild it and waited for it to be shipped, I replaced that and that didn't solve the problem. I ordered a rear lower bulkhead and waited for it to be delivered, that didn't fix it. I sent it to a local hobby shop, they couldn't fix it. Thats when I contacted traxxas again. I had ran out of ideas as to how to repair it. No option left. Thats why it took 2 months to contact them AGAIN. They said to ship it back to them (at my expense) then wait for several weeks AGAIN for them to send it back. I had no issues with the popping noise when I sent it to them the 2nd time.i believe that when they were testing the servo they broke something else. If I could have repaired what they broke I would have and just paid for everything myself and repaired it. I AM Not going to continue sending it back time after time and wait for weeks to have it repaired. Especially at my cost of shipping. What you fail to consider is that ive had this vehicle for over 6 months and it has been broken since I bought it new. At what point do I say enough is enough? Anything that stays broken this many times Is the definition of a lemon. At this point its not about the cost of repairing it its the fact that they sold me a defective RC vehicle. As I stated in my last message I have bought 3 other 8s RC trucks. "Not a traxxas" and until this is resolved ill continue to remind every 1 in all the groups that I'm in and friends considering buying a RC to stay away from any traxxas products. Again, I AM Not SHIPPING IT BACK. I will accept nothing less than a replacement.

I purchased an X-maxx for $1000, including 4 batteries and charger, totalling almost $2000. Within the first 20minutes I had a tire tear apart. The company provided me with 2 new tires. Within 1 month the steering servo stopped working, they use tiny plastic gears for turning. They sent me new plastic gears. I decided to purchase the metal geared servo bc they claim it will last 1+yrs and is better at turning. Within 5months the metal gear servo burned out($150) I don't do anything crazy with my xmax, I've only had to replace a knuckle bc I crashed into a swing set pole at 40mph. It's unacceptable for a $150 metal geared servo to last less than 1yr. They only warranty it for 1month. The gears didn't break it just whines and won't turn left or right. Steer clear of this brand! Other cars cost around the same and are better quality. Wish I did more research and purchased a different brand. I'm not giving this company another cent. And I will tell everyone to avoid them at all costs.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/10/15) */ We are sorry to hear the customer has had a frustrating experience with their X-Maxx. It is important to note: the X-Maxx, and all Traxxas models, are "hobby grade" Radio Controlled models. This means the models are completely serviceable by the end user. Unlike toys purchased from a big box retailer, every part and component can be replaced by the customer to restore the vehicle to full working condition. Similar to full-size high-performance off road vehicles, how long the parts last is largely determined by how the vehicle is used, the operating conditions, and the maintenance performed. An item suffering from a manufacturing defect will almost always not work at all, or exhibit an issue within the first few operating sessions. For this reason, Traxxas electronics carry a 30 day warranty against manufacturing defects, unfortunately there is no warranty implied or advertised covering them for one year. Many of the parts, such as the servos gears, are designed to be inexpensive to replace when a failure occurs. Working on and maintaining hobby grade vehicles is simply part of being involved in the hobby. In this case, the customer reported a tire issue and a servo gear failure early in the operation of the vehicle. Since parts failures that early are unusual, we sent the items at no cost as a customer courtesy. The customer then emailed us reporting their 2085X servo had failed after around 5 months of use. Unfortunately, after months of ownership, there is no longer a manufacturing defect warranty that covers the components. However, we do offer a Lifetime Electronics Warranty that can be used for the life of the product to replace a failed electronic component, such as the servo, for a reduced price. We have contacted the customer and sent a return authorization so the servo can be sent in for evaluation by our Repair Lab. Ultimately, replacement decisions are up to the technician that evaluates the component when it's received; however, after 5+ months the reduced cost replacement option under the Lifetime Warranty may be offered. We still welcome the opportunity to inspect the customer's servo, and will follow up with the customer once it has been received by our service center with our options.
