This business accepts collectible comic books from collectors, gives the comic book a grade, and encapsulates the book in a plastic casing to preserve it. I bought a comic book for $40, and had the book signed by the author, which cost me $25. I then sent the book to CBCS to be graded ($25 fee), have the autograph authenticated ($30 fee), and then slabbed. After a few months, my book was returned to me. The grade given to the book was 9.0, for which I had no dispute. However, the plastic sleeve used to hold the book inside the plastic slab was torn, and pieces of the plastic were scattered throughout the inner casing. The book was also torn in several places at the bottom. However, the outer plastic slab was not harmed. This damage obviously occurred at the business, as the book was packaged so as not to jostle around during shipment. Even if it had jostled around, it would have damaged the outer plastic slab instead of the inner plastic casing. Upon receipt of the item, CBCS claimed the damage was the result of being improperly shipped, and that they wouldn't be able to honor the original grade of 9.0. They gave me two options: 1. They could re-slab the book at a lower grade of 7.5 free of charge. -or- 2. They could buy the book from me at fair market value of a 7.5. At no point did they offer a reimbursement for mishandling my book. I did not agree to this, as the book I sent in that was graded was a 9.0, not a 7.5, so I argued they could either pay me the fair market price of a 9.0 AND give me a reimbursement, or they could simply put the book in a new casing with the grade of a 9.0 and return it to me, which is what I paid for. They continued to maintain that it was shipment's fault, even though there was no way those damages could've occurred during shipment. They are attempting to cheat me out of my money, refusing to return my property, and are, ultimately, not accepting responsibility for their mistake.
