On June 29th after adding gas to my car a few days prior my check engine light came on as well as the car putting and being sluggish and would not stop or the light go off. I told my husband that it might be bad gas. He took my car to Auto Zone for a diagnostic test and they said it was the catalytic convertor. I told my husband to have it towed to ******** on San Pedro since they did the catalytic convertor the last time. He suggested that I take it to ******** on ****** since it was closer. It was towed there on July 1st and he spoke with ***********On July 6th I spoke with ***** and he gave me a verbal quote of $2514.70 said it was the catalytic convertor and an additional $600+, not knowing what the additional things were, I told ************ did not have a lot of money to put out, do not do any additional and to fix the catalytic convertor. He said it would be ready in a day or two. I called him on the 8th and left a message for him to see if my car was ready. I called again on the 9th and he was gone for the day.I called ***** again on the 13th after several days of no response. ***** called back that afternoon and apologized for not calling back, and that my car was ready to be picked up. My daughter and I went to pay and pick up my car. ***** suggested that I have it towed because he did not want it to stop on either one of us because of the heat and be stranded.I paid a total of $2473.43 for the catalytic convertor, maintenance tune up, ignition coil assembly and oxygen sensor which was not discussed that these things would be done. My check engine light was still on and the car was putting. I went back on the 16th because of the battery cover was broken and caps under the engine was not tighten. I told ***** about the other diagnostics done on my car and he argued that he told me.My dispute is that I went for 2 things to be checked and done on my car and others were done without my consent.

****************** when your vehicle was towed into our shop we were unable to diagnose it immediately.  Once we were able to properly diagnose your vehicle, it was found that the vehicle was misfiring and in order to verify the necessity of the catalytic converter we first had to address the misfiring condition of the vehicle.  We spoke to you and received approval to start with the spark plugs and coils in the vehicle (a tune up).  Once we were completed with that, we were able to recheck the system and verified that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced.  When we spoke to you,we mentioned that the catalytic converter and O2 sensor needed to be replaced but that we were concerned about oil leaks we found on the valve cover. If not addressed, this would ruin the spark plugs and coils we just replaced.  At that time you told us you were unable to address the problem with the oil leaks and the other repairs we suggested due to funds and we were told to replace only the catalytic converter and O2 sensor.
When you picked up your car, ***** did suggest to have it towed because you had declined all other repairs besides the tune up, the O2 sensor and catalytic converter. He was afraid it may leave you stranded. We apologize for the length of time it took to get your vehicle back to you,but similar to many businesses in the area, we are short staffed and/or have had employees out sick.    We had ordered the battery cover for you and reached out to you to come by and replace which you did come by yesterday. However the lock for the battery cover also needs to be replaced and we have already ordered the needed lower tray for this also.  Once that comes in,we will contact you to bring your vehicle back in to have it replaced. ****, our District Manager has attempted to reach out to you several times to explain the check engine light on, please return our call so we can further explain.

Update* we have spoken to ****************** and she was not aware of any additional issues for her vehicle, the check engine light was no longer on.  She is aware of the replacement for the battery cover and was satisfied. She was going to reach out to her son in law to call us, it seems her son in law made the post on her behalf.

I am rejecting this response because:

All the work besides the catalytic converter was never shared with me. When the car was towed in it was not leaking. The only problem was the check engine light being on and the car was putting when started.
When I called ***** a couple of days after having my vehicle,he said that he was checking some things. He did not say anything about an oil leak on the valve cover. ***** never mentioned anything about a tune up, nor spark plugs and coil. He mentioned the catalytic converter but nothing about the 02 sensor. I was never given anything in writing about suggested repairs. I am thinking the catalytic converter was $2514.70, because that is the quote, he gave me verbally. He did say it would be $600 plus more dollars, I told him I did not have a lot of money and I told him to fix the catalytic converter, I Knew nothing about a 02 Sensor. The oil leak on the valve cover must have happened when they were checking the car out and doing the tune up, spark plugs and coil, because it was not there prior to me bringing the car in.
When I came to pay and pick up my car, that is when I noticed the additional work. ***** did mention about towing the car. I said if it were fixed why would I need to tow it. He said he was afraid it might die on me and he did not want either my daughter or myself stranded in the heat. We left and I had my son-in law get the car. My car was taken to my home and parked.
A few days later that Saturday my son-in-law came over to check the car and we noticed the battery cover was broken, we went back to show to *****, and he was going to order the cover. The wrong cover was ordered, and we are still waiting for the whole replacement.
Once I made a complaint, **** the district manager called me once and I did talk with him, if he tried several times to reach me it was because he called the wrong number. He asked about the check engine light and how was the car running. I told him the check engine light was off, he wanted to know more about it, and I told him that my son-in-law could tell him more about it. **** spoke with my son-in-law, and they spoke about the 02 sensor among other things.
***** or whomever said the post was on behalf of my son-in-law, think little of women and think that I am not capable of doing such because I brought my son-in-law. I am not a mechanic, but I do not have to be one to post a complaint. ***** was vey argumentative and I did not want to argue with him about something that I did not agree with. I would suggest male or female be **** of this location. Overall customer ********************** at this location has been poor. I have had previous work with another ****** location and have been please with their work.

      Regards,

I am rejecting this response  at this time because:

I did speak with **** on Tuesday August 9th but I have yet to get in touch with him again. I have left messages for him to call so that we can come up with some kind of arrangement. I would like to get in writing what is to be done and a zero balance on company letter head.  I'm still waiting for the battery box as well.  I guess he is still with the company.

      Regards,

Unfortunately ****, our Service Manager was out sick for a few days when ****************** called and then was working out of another location this week.  He has reached out to ****************** and she will be bringing the vehicle to another of our locations and dropping it off so our District Shop ******* can install the battery cover and review and assess the repairs she had.  We will be sure to address all concerns for ******************

Date of transaction 6/11/2022 Showed up with an issue with engine overheating. Instead of just investigating this issue, they ran and charged for a full vehicle diagnostic. The main issue however came upon checkout. I received a call on Friday outlining that that the issue was caused by a faulty engine thermometer. I was told with the diagnostic cost, replacement, and labor: the total would be about $332 with taxes to which I agreed even though I felt it was quite pricey. When I showed up to fix my vehicle, I was told the total was $450. They told me they had to replace the lugnuts when removing my tire, costing $90 + tax (+ labor). I did not agree for this service to happen. I agreed to the quote received the previous day before the work would be performed. They decided that additional work needed to be provided without consulting me or receiving my consent.

Prior to being contacted by BBB, we received a notification of a 1 star review on ****** from ****************.  After speaking to the management staff at the location,we have attempted numerous times to reach out to the customer.  **************** does have a valid argument.  He was charged for the lug nuts without his prior approval and his key was broken at time of pick up.  We have called several times from the location and from a separate number to try to get a hold of him.  We have also tried to text him as well as responded to his 1 star ****** review to have him return our call.  We would like to first and foremost apologize with the events that happened in his visit and to also refund him the cost of the lug nuts.  We have already ordered and have his replacement key here. We will not have to program the key, we can transfer the insides to the new case. We realize we made a mistake and would like to have an opportunity to make it up to the customer however, he will not come by or return our calls. If you can please relay to the customer our apologies and have him come by at his earliest convenience for his refund and replacement key.
