BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.  These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements. 

On June 19, 2023, BBB contacted Pura Vida International regarding health claims and testimonials advertised on their website https://www.puravidasystem-carico.com and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PuraVidaInternationalCarico/.

Pura Vida International advertises:

“Drinking fresh juice along with a wholesome diet offers tremendous health benefits: improve life expectancy & quality of life, Lower blood pressure, Decrease the risk of heart disease, Improve energy levels & stamina, Aid in digestion, Boost your body’s immune system, Help flush excess waste & detoxify your body, Help control weight naturally”

“(Carico’s ultra tech silver collection plus sleep system) woven with silver thread creating a 99.9 percent bacteria free environment.”

“(Silver Thernofresh memory foam) embedded with silver ions to maintain a 99.99% bacteria free environment.)”

“(grounding system) provides maximum protection from all harmful electromagnetic fields.”

“The electromagnetic silver shield encases the entire core of the mattress allowing you to release the imbalance of electrical energy your body picks up through exposure to emfs bringing you back to balance. It has been proven to accelerate tissue repair.”

BBB Code of Advertising states claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

BBB requested Pura Vida International to substantiate the advertised claims by providing evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data including scientific findings, FDA approvals, clinical studies, or other objective data to substantiate the claim or discontinue the advertisement.

Pura Vida International's Facebook post from February 4 advertises a testimonial from Rosa Echevarria claiming Carico mattress helped with his diabetes symptoms.

BBB Code of Advertising States in general, advertising which uses testimonials or endorsements is likely to mislead or confuse if while literally true, it creates deceptive implications or a consumer’s experience represented in an advertisement is not the typical experience of those using the product or services, unless the advertiser clearly and conspicuously discloses what the expected results will be.

BBB requested Pura Vida International to provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data including scientific findings, FDA approvals, clinical studies, or other objective data to substantiate the claim and the commonality of the results or discontinue the advertised claims.
