The Gastonia-Scurry Special Utility District disconnected my (water) service on 8-28-23 between 8 to 10:30 am. I only discovered this, when I went to use the restroom and the toilet would not flush. I immediately checked the sink and found the water was not working. I went to the water meter to check for issues and found a note in with the meter telling me that my water was disconnected for non-payment. I called the ***** and asked why my service was disconnected. I was informed that the third-party billing company reported a non-payment for my account. I asked why I was not notified prior to this, and I was told that the new notification process was posted on ********* and I had to request to be notified. I do not follow them on FB and their FB page shows 817 followers and ****** customers. I didn't receive any actual mail or Email concerning the changes. Anyways, I paid the full amount requested ($94.00 bill and $100.00 re-connect) only to be told hours later (after calling for an ETA) that they will turn the water on after they have lunch and before 4pm. This is unacceptable, as it is too hot to be disconnecting services without any notice. I have two young children and two dogs that are suffering because of their poor judgment. That $100.00 is money I could use for school lunches as my children prefer to take their lunches.
