      On 4/3/2023 I went to the Utah Smile Clinic to have some dental work done. I required a crown on one tooth and this is what happened. They told me that they took my insurance, which is Met Life Dental Insurance. When they accept your insurance they MUST take the amount the insurance states they can only charge for the services performed. This is not what happened. They charged me more, a lot more! I thought the insurance just didn't pay their half. But when I called them they said they did pay their portion, 50% of what the dentist can charge for a crown. They paid $339.00 and that my portion was $338.50. I told them I was charged $965.50 on top of what the insurance paid, so a total of $1,304.50. The insurance said they can't charge that amount for a crown. They can only charge $667.00, if they are going to accept this insurance. So I called the billing department at the dentist and was told the difference is because they have their own lab work down in house, they don't send it out. I told her that I would rather wait and have it sent out then. She said it didn't matter, I would still be charged this amount. So that was a lie. That was made up stuff for them to be able to charge more. I have been trying to dispute this on my credit card several times but they don't get it and just call the dentist and the dentist says it's the right amount and they put the charge back on my credit card. So I am at a loss as to what to do. But I will say this. This seem like they shouldn't be able to charge this much if they are going to accept my insurance. It seems unethical and even borderline illegal. I have medical insurance and it's the same way, the doctor can only charge a certain amount if they are going to accept my insurance. And they always follow this. But what this dentists office is doing is WRONG!!!. I paid $965.50 and my insurance paid another $339.00 for one crown.
