I had a checking account with gwcu in in july 2017. I had overdraft protection up to $700. I paid numerous overdraft fees of about $21 for each transaction. It happened that my account went into the full $700 in overdraft. I lost my job I had at that time. I was unemployed for two months. In that time my account went into collections. I paid the full amount to the collection agency. In Sep. 2021 my current employer tried to open an HSA for me, with a different bank. I was denied. Come to find out gwcu put me under a negative banking history, due to an unknown to me "collection fee", of around $371. Of which gwcu said was uncollectable. I was under the assumption that any negative banking history on my behalf was resolved upon payment in full to Bonnevile collections, when I paid them the full amount in Feb. 2018. This issue has been negatjvely affecting my credit, although I was able to open an accout with another local bank with no issues, in Jun. 2020.

I called Goldenwest Credit Union to make, what I thought was, a reasonable request. I have a recurring transfer debited from my checking account every month that I no longer needed. Upon being unsuccessful with cancelling my subscription with the merchant, I requested that Goldenwest Credit Union help with resolving the issue. I asked that they stop the recurring transfer as I no longer authorize it. They said they will not stop it from going through even after I stated it is not authorized. The only solution provided was to cancel my current debit card and send me a new one.

Established a Lot Loan through GWCU in Aug 2020 with a minimum monthly payment due of approx, $707/month. Made payments via their website and mobile app each month in the amount of $1000 - also made additional payments intermittently to be applied toward principal. When the loan was established I was told it was no issue and any additional payments/credits would be applied toward principal. Now I see each month majority of the credit is being applied to interest. For example: $1000 payment made - $861.08 toward interest, $138.92 toward principal. Makes no sense that more than the minimum payment goes toward interest?!? I contacted GW customer service who advised me you must call or go into a branch to make payments directly toward principal. They were unable to reallocate any of my prior payments toward principal. Frustrated because there is nothing on their website that indicates you cannot make principal payments on a mortgage. Customer since I was 12. What a shame!

We reached out to our member to explain why the interest payments seemed so inconsistent. We set up a loan transfer from savings, so that there would be more consistency in the interest amounts month to month. We explained the best way to make a principal only payment would be to increase the amount paid each month, and to make it on the same day rather than a couple weeks later. Our member seemed satisfied with the explanation.
