I was scammed by blue raven solar. They made all these promises to get you to sign up. Left out a lot of important Information. My panels haven’t been producing like they normally do. Blue raven says because it isn’t a 50% decrease there isn’t anything they can do about. I’ve experienced horrible costumer service. The only reason I am forced to continue to do business with them is because I found out that there’s a lien on my property because of the panels. Which also wasn’t mentioned when trying to sale.Business response

We are aware of this customer’s situation and have coordinated with our Work Orders team to ensure the issue has been resolved. The customer’s system was briefly not reporting back in May 2024. When reviewing the customer’s account on Enphase, we found that the system has been reporting since June 2024 and is currently within his production estimates. Over the system’s lifetime, it has produced 92% of what was estimated.
We strive to provide a world-class customer experience and recognize that we fell short in explaining the resolution to the customer. Friday 9/13, the manager of our Work Orders team reached out to the customer to provide clarification.
Regarding the lien, the customer’s financier, Goodleap, filed a UCC-1 to secure the customer’s loan. UCC-1 filings are standard practice when financing large projects such as homes, cars, and solar energy systems and is explained in the customer's loan documents with their financier.Initial Complaint

Blue Raven representative visited us shortly after we moved into our home in April 2022 to sell us a solar energy system. He represented to us that the system would produce enough energy to meet our needs and that loan payments for the system would be significantly less than our monthly electric bill. He returned later with the specific figures that did indeed show a significant monthly savings, and we agreed to the purchase. As it turned out, our electric bills dropped very little once the panels were operational and our total monthly electricity costs exceed what we were paying previously as an electric bill by over $100. We contacted the company who admitted they underbuilt the system but had a ready a solution to sell us more panels. We cannot afford more panels. The customer service representative agreed to get back to us with a more reasonable proposal, but nothing has been forthcoming despite repeated requests. It is the company's unresponsiveness to our follow-ups that has caused the delay in seeking help through the BBB. We have provided the company with all the documentation they have requested to resolve this issue. If Blue Raven cannot deliver the product represented at the cost represented it should retrieve their panels and refund to us the money we have paid, just like any other reputable company would. They now state that their contract says results are not guaranteed. That is at best sleezy, and at worst fraud for representing one thing, and slipping something else into the contract that they know most people don't read.Business response

The customer's proposal was based on the square footage of their home, as no complete utility bill was provided at the time. The customer signed a contract for 16 panels, with an estimated annual production of 7,269 kWh. According to Enphase, the system has produced 5,309 kWh this year and 7,357 kWh throughout 2023. Overall, the system has delivered 101% of the guaranteed production. While Blue Raven Solar cannot guarantee significant changes to a customer’s utility bills—something beyond our control—we do guarantee the production of the solar system. This information is detailed in the customer’s Home Improvement Contract and highlighted in the proposal. The customer paid for 16 panels and received 16 panels that are exceeding expectations.Initial Complaint

I have been on the phone with DTE for over three weeks trying to get answers my outflow accordingly to DTE in one of the pay circles was 1102KWH my outflow from the app was around 759KWH they stated I only was credited for 206 KWH. They told me that they add 1102+759=1858 which is what they are saying we used totally. Then they subtract the 1858-206=1652 which is the total that we used. We have not done anything different this year from last year. Our bill from last year the same time frame was ****** this year it was ******.They are saying for the size of our house and the number of panels is not even close to enough to supply what we need for the time frame that was explained to ****** and myself. We were told by you *********************** that these panels would reduce our bills and energy usage from DTE by a significant amount. The original plan had all the panels on one side of my roof to optimize the solar production. Blue raven had to change that plan due to an easement and had to move three panels onto another roof. You stated that my first 18 months would be paid for and now I am having to pay for the panels due to blue raven. They stated that the checks would be continuing at a later date but that date is unknown at this time.Business response

Prior to the customer starting the ********************** process, the customer did not provide a full electrical bill to show their total annual usage. Therefore, Blue Raven Solar created a proposal based off the square footage of the customer's home to estimate their yearly electrical consumption. The customer signed a contract for 14 panels, with an estimated annual production of ***** kWh. Using Enphase, we can confirm that the customers system has produced 100% of what was guaranteed. Blue Raven Solar does not guarantee the customer will not have an electrical bill, as this is something out of our control. The customer is also informed during their introductory call that they would still be receiving a bill from their electric company. We guarantee the production of the solar system since this is a variable we can control. This information is included within the customer's Home Improvement Contract and highlighted in the proposal as well.
Due to the legal obligations surrounding our parent companys Chapter 11 filing, there was a delay caused to the customers August promotion check. Those checks were sent out August 30th, 2024.Customer response

The company *** *********************** requested only one bill which was our highest bill. They based the solar system on this data and this data alone. Their ***resentative informed my wife and I that the power we will produce would I fact produce us a credit for multiple months which has yet to happen and once winter hits will never happen when snow covered. The company **** and their affiliates are telling people miss information to get them to sign up for solar programs. This is in fact false advertisement on their behalf. I gave them a chance to fix the issue and they continue to come back and say it is the home owners problem and not theirs. They will not rectify the current issues to make the agreeable power production that their *** informed my wife and I of.

I paid an $11,000 deposit to get a battery installation going in February. Today is Aug 15. They've had over 6 months to get the project going. After repeatedly blaming the power company (Blue Raven filed the wrong paperwork with them twice) and then blaming the county permit process, all progress on this project appears to have halted about 2 months ago. Blue Raven does not give any meaningful replies to email inquiries ("that's not my department, so I forwarded it to the other department and they'll get back to you" - which they never did). Now they've simply stopped replying to me in any way at all. Yesterday I threatened to cancel the project altogether if they didn't send me a status update. Blue Raven couldn't even be bothered to reply to that email at all. There doesn't seem to be any way to get them to work on this project. Maybe $11,000 is not enough money to make them work beyond 3 months on a project, but it's a heck of a lot of money to me and I'm very disappointed in Blue Raven. The first time we used them to install solar panels, they did an timely and excellent job. But now they seem to have gone into a downward spiral.Business response

We strive to provide a world-class customer experience and recognize that this was not reflected in our recent communication with this customer. We take feedback such as this very seriously, and the information has been forwarded to the appropriate managers for direct follow-up.
We have received approval for their interconnection application as of July 23, 2024, and expect to receive permit approval from their Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) by August 22, 2024. As we are installing innovative new equipment nationwide, Blue Raven Solar, ****, and utility companies are working together to develop policies to integrate this technology. This process has introduced some unexpected delays due to differences from standard solar systems. We are working diligently with the **** to complete the customer's project and ensure compliance with their policies.Initial Complaint

I've asked repeatedly to remove our number from their call list and they are bordering on harassment. Mocking me and acting like a child repeatedly asking why we want removed and why we don't want their panels on our home! Third party or not, this is harassing and they are doing it under your name! Do better!Business response

We sincerely apologize for the frustration this customer has experienced. After reviewing the information, we found that the customer was added to both *********************** and our partners' Do Not Contact lists around July 13, 2024, following their previous request. If the customer receives any further contact from someone claiming to be with Blue Raven Solar, we ask that they reach out directly at ********************************** so we can investigate the issue thoroughly and ensure that no additional contact information was overlooked.Initial Complaint

Blue Raven came out to warranty a converter on my solar system that was making tons of noise. They replaced it with a new converter but in the process grounded a Live wire to something in the case that exploded and ruined the new converter. they came back and replaced that converter and realized that it burned all the controllers in one bank of my solar panels. I believe 12 of the panels. They sent us the new controllers which we have but now say they have dissolved the crew that works in the treasure valley so they have no Idea when they will be here to fix it. They started this process in March. It is now August with still no date of when they will come fix it.Business response

Blue Raven Solar guarantees that a customers ********************** system will produce energy. It is noted in both the contract the customer signed and during our introduction call with the customer that they will continue to receive two bills: one from their financier and one from their power company. After reviewing the customers system on Enphase, we have found that the system has produced 95% of its estimated energy over its lifetime. There are many reasons a customer might see an increase in their power bill. We have provided the customer with resources for diagnosing this increase.Initial Complaint

Blue Raven solar salesman openly ignore no soliciting signs posted on doors as instructed by their boss. A Salesman knocked on my door for the third time this year from Blue Raven solar I questioned the salesman asking can you not see the no soliciting sign on my door that has been posted there for the Last 5 Years. The salesman then replied I was instructed by my boss to knock on him anyway. After talking to the police I could have charged the salesman with trespassing I declined to do so. Blue Raven solar has no regard for their employees and no regard for people's privacy.Business response

I bought (financed) solar panels from the company Blue Raven solar system. The told me that if i get their service I was going to have around 10 years of warranty on the solar panels and the cost was going to be around ****** . Plus the told me that for the first 15 months i was going to pay ****** a month and then i was going to be paying 87 dollars a month for the next 5 years because Blue Raven was going to send me a check every month (the difference of the monthly payment) and also because I was qualified for a tax refund around ****** to ****** and that i had to pay back that money to the finance company which is goodleap but I never had the tax refund and goodleap increased my monthly payment to a ****** i feel like they scammed meBusiness response

The details of the customer's financial obligations are explained in the contract they signed on 6/18/2022. We include projections for how applying a solar tax credit to their affects their financing if they choose to do so, as well as if they do not. Their monthly payment was shown to increase after 18 months, which is standard for re-amortization in solar financing. In this case, the customer's payment increased to $284, which they were made aware of at signing. We continue to provide the customer with payments to offset a portion of their monthly payments, as outlined in their contract.Initial Complaint

Blue raven solar rep sold me a 5.3kw solar panel system. They installed a 3.8 kw max ****** solar system. They installed the incorrect microinverters. I have 400 watt panels, but the max ****** on the inverters they installed is only 300 *****. They are refusing to correct the issue.Business response

As Blue Raven Solar only uses industry-leading materials for all solar projects, the customer received some of the best microinverters available for their solar system. According to the customer's signed Home Improvement Contract (HIC), the system size is determined by the size of the panels, not the microinverters. Throughout the solar industry, microinverters are typically undersized compared to the panels because this promotes the most long-term savings and effectiveness over the course of the year.
Blue Raven Solar guarantees the production of each solar system. The customer signed an HIC stating their ********************** system was estimated to produce ***** kWh annually. Since the system was turned on, it has produced 103% of our estimate. As the customer is producing within our guarantees and all appropriate materials were used, Blue Raven Solar has fulfilled its contractual obligations.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: selling a customer a 5.2 kw system that only produces 3.8 kw is a fraud and a scam in my opinion reguardless of your nonsense contract. I very specifically told my sales person i needed at least 5000 ***************** ****** because of the future electric load i will be putting on my house. I was promised 5.2 kw max ****** and i am obviously not going to be satisfied about being lied to by your sales rep and getting 3.8 kw max ****** instead. I will be letting everyone i know about this.
